Lakshmi Mittal is a billionaire industrialist of Indian origin. He is chairman of the LNG group which is the world's second largest producer of steel. As of March 2004, he is the richest Asian and among the richest people in Britain. Mittal holds steel assets in South Africa, Poland, Indonesia, and Kazakhstan.
In 2002 he was embroiled in a political scandal dubbed Garbagegate with British Prime Minister, Tony Blair when it was felt that a donation Mittal had made to the Labour party had led to Blair's intervention in a business deal favouring Mittal.
