Re: Our earlier disputes

Hello, I'd like to formally apologize for any hurt feelings I may have caused, on the stormfront (website) page. I think we all have heated opinions about this, but I look forward to working with you to make a better article for everyone. Cheers :) Mr. Kent (talk) 23:47, 8 March 2011 (UTC) has given you a dove! A beer for you!

No worries, Niteshift--I was happy to back you up there (that was easy anyway, since you were right). Man, some people need to get out more, so they don't have so many words left when they get here. Cheers! Drmies (talk) 22:48, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

  • Tell you what, I had the opposite happen tonight. Old neighbor comes by, there's a bottle of champagne, she and Mrs. Drmies claim to be tired etc; by the time they're gone and I'm thinking about finishing that bottle, it's empty after all. Plus they were disrespecting the Clint Eastwood movie I was watching, tsk tsk. Also, I made a promise: to not respond at ANI. Hey, we're all buddy-buddy now, with all this stuff going on, but weren't we in a fight a couple of months ago? Where you were wrong, of course. Later! Drmies (talk) 05:34, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

For working with me on Dave Aronberg article. You've supported him, I was dead set against his most recent bid for office, but we worked together to make the article encyclopedic rather than looking like a press release. ...William 17:45, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Niteshift - i have a problem and could use your help. My husband is Kermit Alexander and we have been trying to update his page to be more relevant and approachable. All the edits I have been making seem to become undone. Pictures from our personal files seem to be deleted. I am so technically challenged so I become frustrated after reading hours and hours of how-tos just to be dismissed. So how can you and I become friends that you will contribute to Kermit Alexander's? He worked really hard to become an author and now I'm stumpted on how to tell the world about his efforts. SEASPRAY

Just wondering what your plans are with the SEASPRAY page. I'm happy to help out if you'd like. (also, you know that when you add an asterisk ' * ' along with a colon ' : ' to your talk page entries, it creates a double indent, right? It's freakin' me out! Just sayin'... (jk)) - WOLFchild 02:23, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

  • I'm not sure if I want to dive into that article or not. It really doesn't have good sourcing and I'm not sure that there is a significant level of third party coverage. And yea, I like the asterisk thing....makes it clear that a new response is starting. Niteshift36 (talk) 02:52, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Well, you can always just throw a couple of tags on it and see what happens. Anyways, up to you. ttfn - WOLFchild 03:18, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Kimberly Leach (3rd nomination)

Is it okay if I redirect the name to Ted Bundy? WhisperToMe (talk) 06:14, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

  • People do look up names of victims. It's simply that the victim shouldn't have an "independent article" so a person gets redirected to the right place. For example after I created articles on Texas death row inmates I redirected the names of the victims to the perpetrators. I also think redirecting should be done since this was the crime Bundy was executed for. WhisperToMe (talk) 16:18, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Louis Jones, Jr.

Hi! I was thinking of writing an article on Louis Jones when I found it it had been AFD'ed awhile ago: Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Louis Jones, Jr.

I found a Newsweek op/ed over whether Jones should be executed (in light of his claims that he was damaged by Gulf War toxic gases as part of a "Gulf War Syndrome")

I think this claim is enough to give article notability. What do you think? Also pinging @Tony Fox: WhisperToMe (talk) 13:12, 28 May 2016 (UTC)

  • I really don't see how it changes anything. It still reverts back to the fact that Jones notability stems from him singular criminal incident. If that crime didn't happen, this op/ed piece wouldn't have been written, at least not with him as the example. Niteshift36 (talk) 15:22, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
What if the article was renamed to be about the crime? BTW I think that generally any judicial execution that gets significant media attention nationally and/or internationally (many Texas executions have been covered by European newspapers) should pass WP:GNG WhisperToMe (talk) 16:34, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
  • If there is continuing coverage, possibly. If all the coverage is immediately around the crime, trial or execution, then it looks more like news coverage and recentism. Remember, "most newsworthy events do not qualify for inclusion." How much significant coverage of it has happened after 2003? Niteshift36 (talk) 16:51, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
Here's what I found so far:
A 2004 textbook Capital Punishment: Cruel and Unusual? includes the case as an example ()
Jones's lawyer, Timothy W. Floyd, wrote a book chapter about his involvement in the Louis Jones case, published as a part of A Life in the Law: Advice for Young Lawyers published by the American Bar Association (2009) (he didn't write the whole book: he wrote one chapter of it)
p70 of Human Behavior in the Social Environment: A Macro, National, and International Perspective (2009) discussed the Louis Jones case in relation to Gulf War Syndrome, arguing that it could be an example of a genuine syndrome case, citing surveys of veterans. I don't know how "significant" this mention should be.
Nowadays death penalty cases tend to be media circuses from conviction until execution, so coverage extends as appeals are filed and/or denied.
WhisperToMe (talk) 17:15, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
  • The first textbook is a single paragraph in a listing of cases. The paragraph says nothing beyond the fact that it happened and it's on the list for reasons really having nothing to do with the crime from what I see. I can't even call it coverage of the topic. It's a mention that it happened. The second book is a first person recounting of what happened from his POV. It's less about the case than about using the case to illustrate a lesson to young lawyers. The last one is another reference to the fact that it happened, but nothing about the actual case. It mentions he asserted GWS but nothing else. Again, it isn't coverage, but a mention that states nothing about the actual case that wasn't known 6 years prior. I'm becoming more convinced that deleting this was the right call in 2009. Niteshift36 (talk) 19:35, 29 May 2016 (UTC)
Okay. I decided to look into the matter some more, to see whether there was material released after 1995-2003 (including the years in between) and/or some other factor that would show something special about the case. I found this: "Gulf War veteran is executed." - It's a 2003 article, but...
  • "Jones had powerful people working to spare his life. Former presidential candidate Ross Perot, who has helped fund research into the illnesses plaguing many Gulf War veterans, tried to get Jones' sentence commuted to life without parole. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, a Texas Republican, said last month the execution should be delayed while experts determine whether Jones suffers from Gulf War syndrome, a term used to describe a variety of illnesses suffered by Gulf War veterans."
I don't think it's very common for death row inmates to get support from national level politicians like Ross Perot or Kay Bailey Hutchinson (a U.S. senator) clamoring for a delay in execution or commuting of the sentence. Personally after discovering that, I'm leaning towards DRV or something to that effect.
WhisperToMe (talk) 22:02, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
  • I'm not sure how much you spend look at death row inmates, but plenty of them get celebs getting involved. Regardless, that was still back in 2003 and everything with Jones comes back to one event. Take it to DRV if you like. I haven't heard anything that changes my mind about the notability. Niteshift36 (talk) 00:21, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
Ok. I've decided to open a DRV: ==Deletion review for Louis Jones, Jr.==

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Louis Jones, Jr.. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. - BTW they do tend to get allies in Europe/from the European press, but I;m not sure how many get high level American politicians to help their individual cases.
