Sure, here goes: | |||
]<sup>]</sup> | |||
Ouch! 285 chars :-( | |||
Trying without red border:
]<sup>]</sup> | |||
God is playing games with us! 251 chars! Joining the words will do it marginally to 248 chars:
]<sup>]</sup> | |||
Personally, I think the black/white thing doesn't mix nicely with red-white-blue, plus I hate the border jumping upwards in superscript. I suggest this:
]] | |||
212 chars, and the link to your talk is in the non-bold part after the ''''@'''' sign (like e-mail or something).
Of course, we could always shrink the code if we left the '@theLab' part bold but unformatted:
<b>]]</b> | |||
...(158 chars) which would allow some room for the red border you like so much:
<b><span style="border:1px solid #f00;padding:0px">]]</span></b>
...(219 chars) which is a little too much colored now. I preferred the 212 or 158 ones, in order of preference. ] 12:20, 31 August 2006 (UTC) |

NikoSilver
May 2006: (added a dash of blue that made grey look more silverish)
NikoSilver
June 2006: Attempt to shorten due to user complaint by:
- removing links
- removing some side fountain fill
- tweaking code for bolding (removed 2 tags by changing syntax)
- adding : instead of &-nbsp; (to seem like bolts on silver plate)
Result is 2.2 lines in edit window (<3 lines as prescribed in Misplaced Pages:Sign your posts on talk pages#Length
June 2006:
- Shorten even more by using redirect User:N! (per User:FrancisTyers=User:F-m-t)
- More blue (more silverish and now maybe even more scubish too!)
- Replaced "white" with "#fff" (-1 char!)

Right?
You owe me a beer for the copy vio, one more for shortening your sig by 2 lines (by removing redundant repetitions of span), one more for correcting your html errors (color 6 digits and span closings=openings), and one more for the better looks of it (with the date outside and by fixing gradients)! Jesus! You even owe me one more for getting me drunk! Now copy everything except the date in the "nickname" box in prefs and check raw sigs "on". NikoSilver 11:29, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Hehe thanks but I had covered the date on purpose in order for the sig to look less like yours :-) I'll buy you as many beers as you want anytime! Cool signature!!! How do I customize signature to include the talk and some special effects like yours? Please help «₪Mÿš†íc₪» 12:20, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

- Good question! Where do we get the program? Ta leme argotera Politis 12:56, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- There's no "program", Politis. It's handmade (like grandma's embroideries!). Feel free to edit the comment and copy the code. Then replace the letters (N...i...k...o...S...) with yours and also experiment with the color codes to show the gradient you like. Then copy the whole thing in your prefs in the "nickname" box, and activate the "raw sig" button. Then save prefs and test it! If you have no idea what I am talking about, just tell me your favorite color, and I'll do it for you! NikoSilver 13:24, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Ανδρέας
Well, apparently I owe you a gift... Let me see what I can do...
What about ^__^ that one? Judging by your edits, I think you must probably like blue... :-) NikoSilver 21:45, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for your gift. I hope that you will not think that I am ungrateful if I just put it into my showcase. The text is quite long and in my opinion, clutters up the difference displays. More importantly, the signature is a token of each user's personality, and should remain so. With kind regards, Andreas 17:09, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
- :-(... there goes my virginity... I suppose I couldn't help if I reduced the size and/or incorporated your definition of your token of personality, could I? NikoSilver 17:24, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
- Wow! Thanks for that! I had no idea you actually liked it so much! (do I sound like a 5 year old lately?) NikoSilver 23:17, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
FunkyFly
Thanks for the inspiration. Do I have to paste it every single time? /FunkyFly.talk_ 00:02, 15 May 2006 (UTC) 23:41, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- Congrats! I'll even try to use the blink feature to illustrate the silvery effect of my signature! No, you don't have to paste it every time! There's a box for that in your prefs, called "Nickname". Paste it there (without the date), click the "Raw sigs" checkbox on, and click save. You'll se a "preferences saved" notif. That means you're done! Test it! NikoSilver 23:55, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- FF, may I advise that as you don't have a userpage, to make your signature direct exclusively to your talk page (you'd be able to remove the talk link as well). --Telex 23:59, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- Doesnt quite work out, when I put {{User:FunkyFly}} as signature it replaces it with {{SUBST:User:FunkyFly}}, and still puts the whole thing on the page. Thanks though. /FunkyFly.talk_ 00:04, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- Wait! It works perfectly in mine: /FunkyFly:_ 00:24, 15 May 2006 (UTC) (that was pasted automatically by NikoSilver's prefs after using the four tildes for a signature (~~~~) and NOT the template ofcourse!)
- The code is below:
]
- Happy? NikoSilver (can't sign)
- Yes, I got that. What I was thinking was, instead of expanding the long signature with all the talk clutter just use this {{User:FunkyFly}}. Apparently the settings dont allow for that. /FunkyFly.talk_ 00:11, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

- Hmmm, do we have a new customer here? NikoSilver 00:01, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

- or simply this: Telex which is a little better than Telex since "T" is for talk (instead of "ex")...
- Feel free to choose... NikoSilver 11:08, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Earth KING
How do you replace your signature like that(or in my case, with an image)?
--Earth KING 21:26, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Never mind, I didn't know that pressing the Raw signature check was required. --File:Earthking.sig.png 23:03, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, but 2 things:
- WP is generally not happy with pics uploaded for personal use. I was told that when I attempted to bitmap my sig's silvery effect. Don't worry, nobody here will tell, but I suspect you'll get it from somewhere...
- You'll need to link your userpage or talkpage to that bitmap, instead of the bitmap itself. You can't do that like this: ], so we'll need to either add a char next to the bitmap, or ask for serious html/css/wp/etc help. That will blow our cover for #1 though, plus I am not sure that we can indeed do it... NikoSilver 23:48, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
- See WP:SIG. --Telex 23:51, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
I stopped using the image; I just didn't want the file to link everywhere(and I would probably want to change it if I do change my sig image). What do you mean when you talk about linking it to my userpage, dont you just have to add the image there?
Why doesn't Misplaced Pages allow images from external sources? Even if you can't delete the image, it should be possible to ban. Misplaced Pages ussually only checks stuff if: 1)It is not created by a user. 2)It just got created.

TodorBozhinov
Hi! I see you're creating some neat & kewl signatures and I've been thinking about a new one, as my current one is a bit too long and sometimes inconvenient, so I hope I could contract you :) I'd like it to include the Bulgarian tricolour in some way, but it shouldn't be too shiny and kitschy either. It needs to have a link to the userpage and the talkpage, that's all. Thanks in advance! → Тодор Божинов / Todor Bozhinov → 10:57, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

FunkyFly, the green looks OK on my monitor, but you should know it's not an ordinary one, but a rather dark one, so it could be misleading. From what I see, I like it this way.
- Could the length of the colour blocks be balanced somewhat? My addition of the arrow seems to have destroyed their equal length to a large extent. It's not a big issue, but it would be great if it could be fixed somehow. →Todor Bozhinov 19:06, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

... I would love one. :-P I really like your work, especially Onion's up there. It's kinda difficult not to stick out by using backgrounds. I messed around a little bit and I have made some first drafts. Pick one or two, so that we go from there. If you don't like anyone, let me know, and I'll keep scratchin' my head. Now let's see, how about...

Pretty signatures you've made, I suppose "your the man for the job" ;). Did you know about WP:SIG?--Andeh 10:00, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. Yeah I know (lately, see #My own sig history for details). What about it?:NikoSilver: 10:21, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- Well I think you should mention it to all your customers as the signatures you make go totally against the guideline. I think it'd just be fair.--Andeh 18:58, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- You are right. Only, can you please point out which exactly part of the guideline makes them totally against it? If it's only length, then I'll try to shorten them, like I did with mine. For the record, I find these new additions in the guideline retarded, but who am I to argue! :NikoSilver: 21:04, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- Totally against it, I mean it totally ignores it. Here's some things some of your signatures have gone against in the guideline:
- Your signature should not blink
- None of the sigs that I have created blinks.
- /FunkyFly.talk_
- I didn't create that one. Read above, also check list of sigs I have created
- /FunkyFly.talk_
- None of the sigs that I have created blinks.
- In consideration of users with vision problems, be sparing with colour. If you must use different colours in your signature, please ensure that the result will be readable by people with colour blindness.
- Contrast is the key for vision problems. You'll find they have lots of it.
- Contrast won't make much difference is the signatures letters and background have very similar colour.
- Naaah. Everywhere it's very different. Mine would be a small exception in the center, but it looks like silver altogether, so the can spot it easier than if they could read it!
- Contrast won't make much difference is the signatures letters and background have very similar colour.
- Contrast is the key for vision problems. You'll find they have lots of it.
- Images of any kind should not be used in signatures.
- None of the sigs has images (apart from my silly WP:SOCK above, which used it 3-4 times alltogether and is currently inactive -possibly indefinitely). On a lighter note, I'll tell him to correct it! :-)
- I won't moan at you anymore about the image bit, as quite a few users have images as their sig. Creating your own customers? FRAUD! :-D
- He voluntarily visited my shop. I refuse any attempt to convince him!

- Keep signatures short, both in display and markup.
- Ok. Display we're fine, I think. It's the code-length I guess then. I'll try to keep them below the 250 chars mentioned in the guideline. This is exactly the part where I disagree, coz I find it very easy to skip the code when reading in the edit-window. But who am I to argue (bis).
- Really large paragraphs of signatures make it harder to seperate users messages :(.
- I know, I've heard that a lot. Not for me though, and even less if you just hit after every comment (cheap, neat and easy). I'll stick to that 250 char stinking "rule".

Andeh, I sincerely value the good intentions of your post, and although we've never come across yet, I seem to like you judging from your userpage. Please bear with me. I've responded under each of your remarks above for continuity...:NikoSilver: 13:11, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- OK replied to the above. Yes, as you can see on my userpage I used a very long colourful signature for a bit until I found the guidelines, I even had a fairuse image in there for a bit! :-) --Andeh 13:20, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- R-rsps. Want me to try with yours? :-] :NikoSilver: 13:32, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- No thanks! :P So could you put WP:SIG sign somewhere for your customers?--Andeh 13:33, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- You bet! I'll make it HUGE (as huge as I expect the opposition for shortening code even more would be) :-) :NikoSilver: 13:37, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hehe, ok. I just think it's unfair if they're not aware of WP:SIG.--Andeh 13:41, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Ian13
Okay, now if possible I am after a signature (one which is VERY short (in code), no images etc...) any ideas? Ian13/talk 18:55, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- I don't use images by principle (except for my sock above), as I can understand the server burden thing. I am full of ideas Ian, just please define "VERY short". :-) :NikoSilver: 21:07, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
Just out of the top of my head, and with no instructions at all:
Do you like it? I am not sure if < big> shows better or worse in various other screen-modes, we'll have to check, or the alternative would be to use ...font+1..., which will increase code length a little bit.:NikoSilver: 12:55, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
PS: I changed the font because I hate how upper-case "i" resembles lower-case "L" in Arial. We wouldn't want people to confuse you for LAN now, would we? :-)
- As long as I am not confused for EAN13 I don't mind ;) That sig is quite nice. I would quite like a distinct green - a colour someone can recognise me by. <big> can be a pain for some screens, and I would like to keep away from some of the sortof squareness of that font if possible. Thanks! Ian13/talk 13:10, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Cool. Got rid of bigs and courier, added green:
Note, we can't avoid double code for green, coz it doesn't allow inter-wiki-link jumping . So probably you like:
... for shorter. Hmm? You want me to try other shades of green too? :NikoSilver: 13:24, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Jesus! I forgot te small-caps thingy you seem to like so much!
Ok. Now?:NikoSilver: 13:54, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, getting quite nice. I just had a little fiddle with that and some ideas I had and came up with:
- And the code size isn't too bad either. Ian13/talk 13:57, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Or, I could drop the small-caps:
- Making it shorter... Ian13/talk 14:01, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Infact, making the 't' for talk in capitals emulates the small caps thing:
Wait, the underline, seems broken (up and down) in my screen. I suggest, if you do want it, to use it only for IAN. Like this:
See? I shortened the code using < u>/< /u> too! Personally I prefered it when 13 linked to talk, but it's the customer's needs we aim to please here! :NikoSilver: 14:08, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
PS: I mean like that (which is even shorter):
- Ah good point about the underlining stuff, in IE it seems weird too. I rather like your new code, rather cryptic ;) Anyway, I've gont for the /T option 'coz I rather like it for some reason. Thanks for all your help and ideas! Ian/T 14:13, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Infact I have changed to Ian13/T since it seems the was doing weird things with line height. Ian13/T 14:16, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- And made the 13 smaller once more. Ian13/T 14:18, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, got another method from one of your ideas above. Ian¹³/T 14:20, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- And I think I am going to have to use small-caps to make the line size right. Thanks for your help! Ian¹³/t 14:32, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Glad I could help. Could I offer an alternative?
Like it or dump the idea? :NikoSilver: 10:10, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Also maybe check:
...where small-caps are also used in Ian (not only in /t). This helps also for distinguishing L from i, since you couldn't possibly capitalise a name like tHIS. :NikoSilver: 10:29, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm, well, I personally prefer to have it all starting in ]. --Ian¹³/t 13:26, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
In that case, you'll have to repeat the small-caps code like this:
It's not such a big deal in code size... :NikoSilver: 13:37, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Huntster
Greetings! I was wondering if you might be able to spruce up the sig that I made for myself. The existing one is okay, but feels too...plain, I suppose. This is what I've come up with...just doesn't seem creative:
— Huntster
Perhaps something unique but still clean-looking? Not necessarily looking for colourful though. Thanks :) — Huntster 03:34, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
- It's always nice to have new customers. Just saw your message, and working on it. Will be right back with an idea... :NikoSilver: 12:19, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Just saw you're in aviation or smthng and thought you might like it. Caution: I've never tested the "Wingdings" font before in other users, but I guess they are a standard nowdays and should work fine. Like it? :NikoSilver: 12:40, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- That looks good! I wish the aircraft tail-section had more definition, 'cause with the middle dots, others might confuse it as a regular arrow. Still, I like it, and am going to use it, with a slight mod :) Thanks for that! ···Q Huntster 18:53, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Glad you liked it. Αsk around if people with different configurations still see the little airplane.:NikoSilver: 20:12, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
ela
You think you could give me something special master binary craftsman? I am looking for someing hellenic and as cool as the lighting in a mykonos club, thanks Reaper7 20:31, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ha ha! Entáxi filára, I'll make something really cool for you, although I had something along these lines in mind for you... :-) :NikoSilver: 20:40, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
How about:
The scissors link to your talk and the whole concept is they stabbed the victim which bleeds red blood all over your name! Ofcourse, you can always say that it's the Myconos' clubs red lights and the open scissors signify, ahem, open legs. Like it? :NikoSilver: 22:44, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
I like this one a lot. Why I had to bring Mykonos into this i am still wondering...! is there any way I can remove the '#' file mou Reaper7 23:07, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
Ummm, you don't see the scissors and instead you see a hash (#)? That's because you are of the few users who don't have the Wingdings font installed. You neither see the little airplane in Hunster above huh? You see a Q instead? What is your configuration? (Ofcourse I can remove it and change it alltogether if you wish now that you don't see your own sig correctly!) :NikoSilver: 23:12, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
yea, i get the Q aswell, how do I alter my config? Reaper7 23:27, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
Forget it. Do you use a Mac?
How about this then:
No talk link. They'll all have to see your interesting userpage when clicking. It's only that we miss the murder weapon now... :NikoSilver: 23:28, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
That is sweet, you think 1 with some white pink or blue effects? BTW don't have a mac, just weird I can't see this shit...Reaper7 23:30, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- I really can't tell what's wrong then. You use Windows? Anyway, if 1 can't see it, probably there'll be more, so let's not risk it. Blue and pink? Sure:
How about these?:NikoSilver: 23:37, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
Hope you like'em. Sorry need to go to bed (it's almost 3am). Tomorrow? :NikoSilver: 23:39, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
Beautiful I will take them all, sweet dreams and we'll meet later! Reaper7
- I see you used the scissors in Talk:FYROM. I thought about it. The reasons for not appearing may be:
- Not a PC (e.g. Mac)
- No Windows (eg. Linux etc)
- Not complete Windows (ie. not installed "Wingdings" font)
- If it's #2, you probably can still find "Wingdings.ttf" and install it accordingly. If it's #3, then when you find it, I'll tell you how (I don't know about Linux and stuff)...:NikoSilver: 13:38, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
Don't have a Mac, i'll try and find "Wingdings.ttf" Reaper7
- See first if you already have them:
- Open "Control Panel"
- Open "Fonts"
- Browse for "Wingdings"
- Then we see what we do. :NikoSilver: 13:14, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Found it, got wingdings 1 2 and 3! What next?
- Probably the Wingdings 1,2,3 versions you have are corrupt or something. If you have "Character Map" installed (Windows app - "charmap.exe"), you'll be able to notice if you have missing characters. Now, if you find the correct (non-corrupt) Wingding.ttf files, then uninstall the ones you have (select them and press del), and install the new ones. BTW, check your e-mail. :NikoSilver: 15:30, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Done and Done, now watch the football file mou!# Reaper7
- Ha ha, entáxi filára, I'll go play with the rest of the boys infront of the tv now... :NikoSilver: 15:57, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Your work is wonderful...
As the title suggests, I am in awe of your work. If it isn't too much to ask, could you please make me signature, for which I will be eternally grateful for - my current default sig is boring :p
Anyways, if you are able to do me this huge favour, what I think is a fading yellow > white > yellow (like everyone else, just with different colours), then maybe
Killfest2
(in green bold letters)
If you could, that would be awesome, and I'll mention your awesome skills on my userpage. Cheers, --Killfest2 09:04, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry Killfest2! I just saw your message. Will get to it soon... :NikoSilver: 13:49, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Ok, let's see about a combination of yellow/white/yellow with dark green bolds (and thin green border to illustrate "white"):
Or white/yellow/white with the same:
BTW the size is 232 chars, so I wouldn't use more code for talk etc. (read WP:SIG) Keep in mind that this is one of the most difficult color combinations I've ever worked on. Care to choose any other gradient, or do you like them as they are? Any other modifs?
PS. The kill and fest thing in your nick kinda sounds like a bloodthirsty horror film (like Reaper's above). I think a more applicable color would be red, but you're the boss... :NikoSilver: 15:17, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yellow and green for Socceroos and Australia. Thanks! ] 00:12, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, what am I doing wrong? (Killfest2)
You have to:
- Select prefs, clear the Nickname field completely
- Copy the code as is within the Nickname box
- Check the raw-sigs radio button
- Save prefs
Try it and message back! :NikoSilver: 09:18, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Yep, got it to work - last time I forgot to check the "raw sig" box. Thanks for everything! Killfest2 11:00, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Help me...
NikoSilver, could you help me make a signature? Also, don't forget the green "e" in my signature. Make the rest look red. Please do not forget the saying "come on" and "CVU" above. Thanks, please reply on my talk page--Sean gorter PS Please put it at User:Sean gorter/Signature.
- A little lost with your instructions in my sig shop talk. Can you please add more details? I don't see "come on" in your current sig, but "mind a chat" instead. Also, your sig looks really nice as it is. Although it would be kinda hard, I'll try to find some inspiration to improve it until you respond... :NikoSilver: 15:26, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- No no no, I want the background color. From User:Sean gorter Don't wanna put a sig.
? Anyway, here's an attempt, if I understand correctly:
However, it is impossible to shorten the code (which is humongous), or apply a fountain fill mainly due to your linked "e" 's. This is how it would look like without them:
I can also use fountain fill in background but only without linking the e's like this:
Finally, I can tweak your present sig code:
My only concern is that all these sigs are big in code length (your current one included). The only solution is if we remove the links in the end. Possibly like this:
This is decently short, shows you're in Esperanza (green e's) and anyone who wants to find out about the rest can click to see your userpage. What do you think? :NikoSilver: 13:43, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks Niko, looks great! Sean gorter 06:20, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Please put in a User:Sean gorter/Esperanza link in A green 'e'. (Not more than one) Sean gorter 06:34, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'll try:
- ...but it exponentially increases code size from 237 to 385 chars, while WP:SIG specifies a 200-250 character limit. This is because you can't nest 'span' (or whatever) tags throughout multiple wikilinks, nor can you nest a wikilink within another wikilink. That makes me repeat the code for the background and color of the first part of your sig (space plus 'S') to the last ('r' plus space), despite the fact that it is the same. It also makes me repeat the link to your userpage twice, since the Esperanza page intervenes.
- Also, this:
- ...would not be a compromise either, since it well exceeds the limit (315 chars) while standard wikilink blue doesn't mix nicely with red.
- I am posting those two sigs for you to see that I worked on it. Please don't use them. I would suggest you emphasize and link Esperanza in the head of your userpage and keep the last sig I gave you previously. The alternative to stick to your old one doesn't work either because it is 451 chars! Sorry :-(. :NikoSilver: 10:09, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Jorcoga
Hi, Could you please make me a signature that slowly turns red in the middle of the word "Jorcoga". Also, make the part of the word with a red background black & vice versa. Leave the ETC. in the sig. Please respond on my talk page (the T). Thanks,Jorcoga 05:56, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sure, here goes:
(412 chars)
- I don't like the way ETC. border appears broken upwards. I suggest we remove it as follows:
(364 chars)
- ...which is shorter in code length too. Like it? :NikoSilver: 15:18, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- ummm, just noticed the black/red swap request:
(379 chars)
...and...
(379 chars)
...but I guess I liked the first two better. I would also suggest you remove the ETC links because your sig is very big in code (per WP:SIG which specifies 200-250 chars). That applies to your existing sig as well (298 chars). So here goes:
...187 chars and very sexy! You still have room for one link maybe:
...235 chars if linked to Esperanza (only)!
Like it? :NikoSilver: 10:16, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Jeremie@theLab Humbly Requests Your Services
I noticed some awesome signatures floating around the site, most notably that of Earth KING. I managed to trace them back to you, and I was wondering if you could improve my sig?
-- – Jeremie@theLab (Command The Interface | Holosphere)
That's my full "state" signature, and I was hoping you could play around with it.
What I'd Like Done
- Around the "Jeremie@theLab" portion, I'd like you to create a box that, from left to right, fades from red to white to blue in that order. That way I get the "All American" look. If you could make the words and letters bold black so they don't fade into the background, that would be helpful.
- For the "Command the Interface" (talk page) and "Holosphere" (contributions) sections, just put them off to the top-righthand corner of the main signature, surrounded by a box with a fade from black to green, with black on the left (surround the talk link) and green (surrounding the contribs link). You don't have to change the letter color here.
I hope that is presented in a straight-forward manner. I understand that you are busy with other users at the moment, so I don't mind being put on the waiting list. Just leave a message on my talk page if and when you are ready. Thank you very much. --Jeremie@theLab 21:13, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- At last! A client who knows what he wants, and knows how to ask for it! I can do all that, but my guess is we'll exceed 600 characters of code, while the WP:SIG limit is some 200-250, because people complain they can't read through all this code in the edit windows. I suggest we drop the links. Any other idea for shortening it? PS: I'll do it like you asked if you so wish, but I'll not be responsible for the consequences, since I advise you not to use it. :NikoSilver: 22:08, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, we can drop the links. I rarely use the full state sig anyway, and most often just stick with my userpage link. As for other ways to shorten it, you wouldn't necessarily have to bold my username letters or change the color. They could stay bold blue, or the standard thin blue. I'm just concerned people couldn't read it that way. Other than that I can't think of a way to shorten it without compromising the basic design. Do you know some trick that would shorten the character count? --Jeremie@theLab 01:49, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
Char color is only 10 characters, and bold-unbold is only 7. I know many other tricks. I'll just start working on it:
(368 chars) This is exactly what you asked and it is still long. Besides, I suspect you don't like it either, partly because it looks like you're French, and partly because if you try fading three colors, the result is tone-sur-tone stripes, rather than actual fountain fill. I could deal with the second handicap as follows, but that increases code length further:
(576 chars) Forget it!
I'll try to do some other combination. IMO, the best combination that would resemble the American flag, would be if we had red background. Here's one with blue to white fading letters:
(265 chars and ugly)
So, now we need something better: Look, the stars in the flag and half of the stripes are both white. The only thing that changes is the border behind them. So I'll start the border blue, finish it red, and make the chars white:
(176 chars)
...or simpler (without the red border):
(142 chars)
Now if you like any of these two above, we still have some room for your links...:NikoSilver: 09:56, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- Wow! That's awesome work! I must say that, even though it has more chars, I like the sig with 176 chars and red border. Now, as for links. I think the only link I want is my "Command the Interface" talk page link. A contributions link, in my opinion, makes it look like I'm showing off what I've done. For "Command the Interface" do you think you could create:
- 1) A solid blue background box with the white bold lettering in it and put it off to the top righthand corner of the main sig?
- If you can do that, great! Thank you once again for your work. --Jeremie@theLab 10:36, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
Sure, here goes:
Ouch! 285 chars :-(
Trying without red border:
God is playing games with us! 251 chars! Joining the words will do it marginally to 248 chars:
Personally, I think the black/white thing doesn't mix nicely with red-white-blue, plus I hate the border jumping upwards in superscript. I suggest this:
212 chars, and the link to your talk is in the non-bold part after the '@' sign (like e-mail or something).
Of course, we could always shrink the code if we left the '@theLab' part bold but unformatted:
...(158 chars) which would allow some room for the red border you like so much:
...(219 chars) which is a little too much colored now. I preferred the 212 or 158 ones, in order of preference. :NikoSilver: 12:20, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
