Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is a movie scheduled for release in November 2006, starring Sacha Baron Cohen and directed by Larry Charles. The movie is a mockumentary comedy featuring Cohen's character Borat.
Plot
The film involves Borat leaving his home in Kazakhstan to come to the United States and record a documentary at the behest of the Kazakstani Ministry of Information. He leaves behind his mother, wife and the town rapist, bringing along his obese producer Azamat. While in America he watches an episode of Baywatch and falls in love with Pamela Anderson, so he buys a dilapidated ice cream truck and drives from New York to Los Angeles to have her vagin and make her his wife. Through the course of his trip he interviews people from across the country. Most of the movie is not staged; rather, Cohen, in character as Borat, interviews and interacts with people who do not know they are being filmed for a movie (they later sign releases allowing the footage to be used). Some comedic highlights include a naked wrestling match between Borat and Azamat which spills over into a crowded business seminar, and Borat's appearance on a crowded beach wearing only a tiny green wrestling thong which stretches from his crotch over his shoulders. Also throwing a bag over Pamela Anderson's head to try to capture her to marry her. Template:Endspoiler
The film had its North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival September 7th 2006, and will be released nationwide on November 3rd. In Toronto, the projector broke after only about 20 minutes of the film, and then Michael Moore answered questions from the crowd. However, the film was rescheduled for the following day and drew a capacity crowd at the larger Elgin & Winter Garden Theatre.
The film was recently given a sneak preview at the 2006 Traverse City Film Festival, co-founded by Oscar-winner Michael Moore, due to the long friendship between Moore and Charles. It was the only film in the lineup there that was a true premiere, as all other screened films had already hit the festival circuit in other places.
The film was given a sneak preview at the 2006 Comic Con International in San Diego, CA on July 21st. To get in one had to present a very crude ticket printed on cardboard that was passed out to people from the ice cream truck Borat drives in the film. The film was shown at Pacific Theaters in the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego.

Trivia
- It took Sacha Baron Cohen six weeks to grow the mustache and eyebrows to play Borat for the film.
- The film was filmed in Romania, not Kazakhstan, and some characters purporting to speak Kazakh are really speaking Romanian.
