Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs: The Series is an upcoming Canadian-American animated series developed by DHX Media and Sony Pictures Animation. Based on the movie series of the same name, the series will be traditionally animated using Toon Boom Harmony. Commissioned by Teletoon in Canada, the series will air on Cartoon Network in the United States, and on the Boomerang channel in other territories. The series is scheduled to be released in fall 2017.

Plot

The series will be a prequel, featuring the high school years of Flint Lockwood, the eccentric young scientist in the films. In his adventures, he will be joined by Sam Sparks, a new girl in town and the school's "wannabe" reporter, along with Flint's dad Tim, Steve the Monkey, Manny as the head of the school's audiovisual club, Earl as a school gym teacher, Brent as a baby wear model, and Mayor Shelbourne, who wins every election on the pro-sardine platform.

Production and distribution

Sony Pictures Animation and Canadian family entertainment company DHX Media signed to co-produce the series in 2014, starting with 26 22-minute episodes. DHX Media will handle the global television and non-U.S. home entertainment distribution, along with worldwide merchandising rights, while Sony will distribute home entertainment in the U.S. Turner Broadcasting will handle international distribution via the Boomerang network.

The Dayton/Walters Casting agency is responsible for casting of the series, with all the voice actors recording their lines in Toronto.
