Origins of Marathas
Hi NRS!
I've seen Marathas being referred to as Indo-Scythians over the internet, MS Encarata says they are descendents of Sakas. Thats what the original article which was started by me, reflected. But Impu insists that Marathas are or Dravidian stock. Even though i'm a Maratha myself, i'm not knoledgeable since i've been born and broughtup in UK. Looking forward to you take on this.
अमेय आर्यन DaBroodey 14:10, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
Hi AmBroodey, thanks for looking up on the Maratha origins issue. As far as I know, Marathas are of mixed descent, but majority of Marathas are of either Scythian or Aryan descent. I know there are people of other descents like Hunnic, Dravidian, Sino or even Parthian origin in the Maratha community. But, that has not been too much researched into. But we all know that many Saka rituals have been absorbed into the Maratha culture. And we Marathas use the Saka calender as well. This is a fact. And as far as Aryan descent is concerned, com'on, Marathi is an Indo-Aryan language. Certainly, Scythians did not start the Marathi community, but they were an important factor in the origination of Maratha clan. The claim that Marathas are Dravidians is a big joke. When Marathi itself is an Indo-Aryan language, how can one say that Marathas are Dravidian ? Also, why should one feel bad about having Aryan or Scythian origins. The whole issue raised by ImpuMozhi is personal opinion and POV. I have observed the development of a few articles esp. Maratha and ] closely and I felt that ImpuMozhi and others of his ilk have been trying to disassociate the words Scythian and Aryan from the Maratha. I don't know why. Perhaps, because ImpuMozhi seems to be a Dravidian (Just check his User Page, he calls himself a native speaker of Tamil or Telugu or some other Dravidian language I dont remember), he wants all the Marathas to be called Dravidians or indigeneous people (in his opinion). As far as I believe, it means that nobody is indigeneous. Does this mean that certain Pakistanis are foriegners in their own land, does this mean Americans are foriegners in their own land, does this mean Mestizos are foriegners in Mexico, does this mean Hispanics are foreigners in Latin America ???? This argument of being a foreigner is totally flawed. And especially when you're talking about migrations of people who roamed the world more that two millenia ago. Why even the Dravidians did migrate from somewhere. They were not just born onto the earth. And at a time when we all believe that all races did emanate from a single race, this proposition just doesn't hold. Isn't it.
I know you'd started the Maratha article with traditional and historical accuracy. And I also know that some people have vandalised and corrupted it. And at a time when everyone knows that Marathas are Aryans, isn't it a regression that Misplaced Pages doesn't state this and instead makes us believe that Marathas are Dravidians ?? I've nothing against "being of Dravidian". Why, even some of my own relatives or ansectors may be of Dravidian descent. But the whole question is about historical and cultural accuracy. Tell me, why aren't there as many Dravidian elements in Maharashtrian culture as there are Aryan or Scythian elements ? It's because, majority of Marathas are of Scythian or Aryan origin.
But, I must say that I do not agree with the statement that "because the rajputs were scythians, the marathas must have been white huns". This is certainly a statement that would've hurt the nationalistic sentiments of all the Marathas. Well, even I am disappointed. Then what about the so-called nationalistic hawks. We don't need any James Tod to speculate on who we are, especially when it becomes, "who we are, we are, because we are not what others are or because others are what we are not".
Either way, the article on Marathas has been severely morphed with all the references to Aryan and Scythian origins cleaned away. It has been done in a constitutional manner (as opposed to the vandals). We need to revamp and rewrite that article again. I guess you can work on it. I've given you the necessary information on Maratha origins, and also explained the perceptions and prejudices of certain minds. You do start the revamp soon. I will add any information that I have to the article. Also feel free to reply me and ask me about anything else. New Rock Star 17:22, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

maha rattas vs. maha rathis
Please do not revert other ppls work without proper citations and references. Please provide the ref of your statement, and let others vet them. Till then let the original remain. Once it has been peer reviewed by the usual suspects, we can replace the orig with yr statement.
This applies especially for cntentious and controversial sections such as origin of names.
And as far as I know Marathi, rathi was not a word in the older versions of marathi language, though I might be wrong.
Pizzadeliveryboy 15:28, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
You certainly are wrong. New Rock Star 18:06, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
My mistake - I was reading it as Maha Ratt(h)a and not Mahar (and) Ratta.....Mahar Ratta is surely wrong - I havent found a ref to that POV nonsense anywhere except in some personal page in tripod....so that will go. However, rathi too is wrong since the correct word for charrioteer is sarathi, not rathi....rathi means valiant/great warrior.
Till the issue is settled with correct refernces, we will keep this out of the article.

Aryans / scythians
NRS I posted a link about aryan inv theory on talk maratha. Did you read it? Marathas are not aryans (as the word aryan means in the west i.e have origins in bactria/europe) and neither are rajputs and there is no relation with scythians also. There is a lot of misinformation out there so do not trust random bits. What is your real name? Shivraj Singh 11:39, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging for Image:Shivaji.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Shivaji.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Misplaced Pages (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Misplaced Pages's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

Regarding Classic Metal
Hi, I've been visiting Misplaced Pages for a long time, but I've just created an account. I've visited many metal articles and one thing which is of concern is that a vandal by the username User:Leyasu is at large in Wikiworld and is tampering with established articles. Some of the articles are Classic metal, Gothic metal, Glam metal, etc. Since, he has also reverted edits by you, I am informing you that I have reported that user to the administration. Check out this page - Misplaced Pages:Administrators'_noticeboard/3RR. I've also spoken on your behalf. Since he made some comments in the edit summary. The user thinks everything else is POV and just what he himself edits is correct. Also, he sent me a threatening message, that if I do not stop reverting, he will inform administration. I did his work myself. I wonder, why you're not reverting the edits. So, I request you to give testimony at the concerned arbiter's page. Your help would be very much valuable in keeping vandals at bay
Regards, Gothic Hero 16:43, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
P.S. : And, I forgot to add, but User:Leyasu thinks I am your sockpuppet ! Wow, what an imagination. Here's the statement where he quoted it - " I assume either your new to Misplaced Pages, or your a sock puppet of New Rock Star".

Image copyright problem with Image:Chickenmalvani.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Chickenmalvani.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Misplaced Pages because of copyright law (see Misplaced Pages's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Misplaced Pages are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Hello there. I am an overseer of your brain. I have come to tell you that the Wikimetal Project is holding a poll on the inclusion of certain genres on the heavy metal template and footer that goes onto metal related articles. This poll has a closing date, however, and so here i am, reminding you to vote if you want to, by pumping strange chemicals through your veins. Its hard work being a brain you know!
If you would like to help in this crucial part of the project, the page is here. No, thats not it? Oh my! I posted those pictures of myself, what a devil i am. No the actuall link is here on this link.
I guess ill see you at breakfest when you finally recover from Misplaced Pages. Bye for now body, your Brain 07:05, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

You're right, I did act hastily without looking further into the matter. I'll keep that in mind.
BTW, don't forget to add an edit summary next time. The first time you put classic metal you didn't provide an edit summary. Most of your other edits do not have an edit summary as well. — Prodigenous Zee - 13:15, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:MarcoMendoza.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:MarcoMendoza.jpg. Misplaced Pages gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Misplaced Pages, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. 05:02, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Nu Metal
I have heard similar arguments against Hair Metal bands in the 80's, the reality is stylistic and finicial motivations aside, if you look solely at the Music of the Nu Metal bands, the show the same agression the same favor of loud heavy sounds as Metal.
No they are not a form of Extreme Metal, nor are they in my opinion Good. However, they are as heavy as Blue Oyster Cult. They use speeded tempos, they do make use of drums and guitar in a manner that is similar to Metal.
Talking about rebellion and such has nothing to do with Metal Music, but metal culture. Nu Metal probably doesn't have a place in Culture of Metal, but it is a Form of metal music. Alos, you speak of niavety, but surely you must know the story of the NSBM movment in Norway and its torrent of flames and blood? There is nothing niave about it. Are Nu Metal acts more intrested in money? I don't know, Metallica thinks its wrong ot copy its songs without permission now that they are big...so, do they stop being metal now that they want money?
Or how about Ozzy allowing a show about his family to be broadcasted on MTV (owned by Time/Warner)? Isn't that a form of selling out? Does that make him and Black Sabbath no longer metal?
Or what about bands like: Demon Hunter, Antestor, As I Lay Dying all of whom sing about Christ, after all chrisitian is part of the "establishment" isn't it? Atechi 17:10, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Your signature
Hello there, I was wondering if you would please modify your signature to conform to the guidelines laid out at Misplaced Pages:Sign your posts on talk pages. The general guidelines are that signatures shouldn't contain images, they shouldn't contain unnecessary internal links or any external links, and they shouldn't be unnecessarily long in Wiki source. The reasoning for this final bit is that overly long signatures tend to overwhelm the actual comments in edit mode, making it hard to track down and respond to specific comments. You can fix your signature by removing any images and external links, any unnecessary links (like links to Wikipedian organizations, articles, or subpages in userspace), and removing excessive color, font, and formatting code. Thank you. --Cyde Weys 21:18, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
