WPSD-TV, also known by its slogan News Channel 6, is an NBC affiliate based in Paducah, Kentucky. It is owned by Paxton Media Group, a locally based family-run publishing company that also owns the city's daily newspaper, The Paducah Sun. WPSD debuted on the air on May 28, 1957. The "PSD" stands for Paducah Sun-Democrat, the former name of the Sun. Sam Champion, who is now a popular weatherman at New York City's WABC and an occasional replacement on Good Morning America, got his start at WPSD.
The station is part of the Paducah-Cape Girardeau-Harrisburg TV market and covers far western Kentucky, southern Illinois, southeastern Missouri and northwestern Tennessee. Studios and offices are in Paducah and linked to its transmitter located near Kevil, Kentucky in an area of Ballard County, Kentucky known as Monkey's Eyebrow, a fact which was noted during WPSD's nightly "sign off" message. An additional translator, W10AH, is in Carbondale, Illinois.
