In the contemporary (as of 2004) diplomatic and geopolitical contest, the Aegean Crisis is a term coined by Greek governments roughly from the beginning of the Cyprus dispute in the 70s up to the present day and referring to a series of, for the most part, unresolved, highly controversial and delicate diplomatic issues with the state of Turkey regarding matters such as:
- The presence or less of Grey Zones in the Aegean Sea.
- Sovereignity problems over many islands of the Aegean Sea.
- Airspace violations by part of the Turkish military almost on a daily basis starting from the 80's.
- Diplomatic status of the island of Cyprus and all the connected problems.
