The coeducational school, run by the Society of the Divine Word, teaches preparatory, elementary and high school, and is the oldest of the two Judenite institutions in the country. The school draws inspiration from the life and works of the institution's patron saint, Saint Jude Thaddeus. The school was founded by Chinese priests, Rev. Fr. Peter Yang, SVD and Msgr. INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IBDP)
Going Global: En route to IBDP Accreditation
SAINT JUDE CATHOLIC SCHOOL, in its commitment to render quality and relevant education to its students, is embarking on a new journey that will surely catapult its educational standards to greater heights – the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) accreditation.
As the school braves the challenges and curricular innovations that an international curriculum entails, here is a glimpse of what the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) is all about.
What is IBDP?
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) is a two-year pre-university curriculum that caters to students aged 16–19. It is one of the three international programs handled by the IBO, the leading provider of internationally recognized academic programs worldwide.
The IBDP requires students to choose a course from each of the six groups: Language A, Language B, Individuals and Societies, Mathematics, Science, and Arts. These courses will be taken up within a span of two years.
At the heart of the IBDP are its core components, aside from the six subject groups: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE), and Creative, Action, Service (CAS). The students must also comply with these three components to be an IBDP graduate.
Why IBDP?
The IB diploma is recognized in 75 countries in over 2000 universities around the world. This recognition often entails direct acceptance in universities without having to take entrance examinations as well as curricular credits in related subjects that they have already taken in IBDP. The IBO also maintains a list of universities offering scholarships to IBDP graduates under conditions specified by each higher education institution, including 58 colleges and universities in the U.S.
As for the Philippine setting, top universities in the country such as the University of the Philippines (UP), Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU), De La Salle University (DSLU), and the University of Santo Tomas (UST) are already into talks with the International Baccalaureate Asia Pacific (IBAP) Office regarding direct admissions and curricular credits.
More than all these, the greatest benefit that the IBDP can offer each and every learner is that one of a kind learning experience which brings education into a whole new light. IB graduates love to learn, and that profound love for learning translates into individuals who are international minded and life-long learners.
IBDP vs. Senior High
Saint Jude Catholic School plans to tackle the K to 12 program with two approaches, the IBDP and the Senior High School. Both curricula provide the students with knowledge and practical skills needed outside the world. IBDP, with its international recognition, offers better opportunities for Judenites to study abroad. It is also more rigorous such that it brings out the potentials of the students, allowing them to become more socially aware individuals.
Saint Jude Catholic School is a candidate school* for the Diploma Programme. The school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. Being an IB World School means sharing a common philosophy and commitment to high quality, challenging, international education with other highly acclaimed educational institutions in the globe. Saint Jude Catholic School believing in the Judenites’ capabilities to tackle the challenge of the IB curriculum hopes to offer the program in 2016.
- Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), or the Diploma Programme (and in addition the IB Career-related Certificate). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
