Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Misplaced Pages. For information on retitling files, categories, and other items, see § When not to use this page.

Before moving a page or requesting a move, please review the article titling policy and the guidelines on primary topics.

Any autoconfirmed user can move a page using the "Move" option in the editing toolbar; see how to move a page for more information. If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:

• Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. In such cases, see § Requesting technical moves.
• Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
• A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
• A page should not be moved and a new move discussion should not be opened when there is already an open move request on a talk page. Instead, please participate in the open discussion.
• Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.

Requests are typically processed after seven days. If consensus supports the move at or after this time, a reviewer will perform it. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved." When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time, or closed as "no consensus". See Misplaced Pages:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.

Misplaced Pages:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.

Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:

• Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
• Renaming a category – propose the move at Misplaced Pages:Categories for discussion.
• Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Misplaced Pages:Categories for discussion.
• Renaming an image or other file – see Misplaced Pages:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
• Moves from draft namespace or user space to article space – Unconfirmed users: add {{subst:submit}} to the top of the article. See Misplaced Pages:Articles for creation. Confirmed users: Move the page yourself.
• Merging two articles – make a request at Misplaced Pages:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
• Splitting an article – make a request at Misplaced Pages:Proposed article splits, or be bold and do it yourself.
• Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Misplaced Pages:Requests for history merge.
• Contesting a move request close – use the Misplaced Pages:Move review process.

Undiscussed moves

Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:

• No article exists at the new target title;
• There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
• It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.

If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.

Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.

Current proposals

Trentino-South Tyrol → Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol

I know that there have been discussions on this, and the ones who got their way, so to say, will not want to discuss this again. However, this name should really be changed as it is has been pushed by an Austrian/German POV. The region in the consitution of Italy is referred to as Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol. Saying Alto Adige/Südtirol English name is South Tyrol is taking advantage to attempt to make the German POV a standard. Taalo 21:03, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

South Tyrol → Province of Bolzano-Bozen

This relates to the above argument. In any list of provinces, the province is listed as Bolzano or Bolzano-Bozen. I prefer the latter since it is contains both the Italian and German spelling. Taalo 21:03, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Bozen-Bolzano → Bolzano-Bozen

It is typical in this region to list first the Italian name and then the German. You see this on all the road signs, etc. I don't know why those with a German POV have to switch it around. This gets simply childish. Taalo 21:03, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Brenner → Brennero-Brenner

Same argument as above. How did we decide suddenly to just go with the German name of this town? All towns in the Province of Bolzano-Bozen are named with Italian-German: Bolzano-Bozen, Brennero-Brenner, etc. Taalo 21:03, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Astounding (magazine) → Analog Science Fiction   (Discuss)

For a number of years, oh, 1936 to 1960, the preeminent science-fiction magazine was called Astounding. Beginning around 1960, over a period of several months, the name and logo was gradually changed to Analog Science Fiction and Fact. Now, 46 years later, it is still one of the 3 most prominent magazines in the field and is still known by that name. The Wiki article about it, however, is still named Astounding (magazine). If anybody does a Wikisearch for "Analog", 2 redirects eventually send them to "Astounding". Various people have complained over the years about this (see the Discussion page), but no one seems to have tried to do anything about it until this morning. Just now I tried to Move the article to Analog Science Fiction, which I think is a more likely Wikisearch than Analog Science Fiction and Fact. A notice popped up to say that the Move could not be made because an article of that name already existed, which is, in fact, nothing but an existing redirect to 'Astounding. I suppose I could create an article called Analog Science Fiction (magazine) and make the Move to that one. I would prefer, however, to Move it to an article with the more streamlined name. Myanmar/Burma → Myanmar   (Discuss)

An editor came along and unilaterally moved it from "Myanmar" to "Myanmar/Burma" without discussion. This move has been discussed many times over the history of the page and the consensus has always been to keep it at "Myanmar" since this is the official name of the country and including "Burma" in the pagename would reflect a POV bias. The Titan 23B was one of four rockets to use the group designation of Titan IIIB. All other members of the family did not differ much - The 24B had a slightly longer first stage, the 33B had a larger fairing, and the 34B was a 24B with a larger fairing. Digital Subscriber Line → Digital subscriber line   (Discuss)

One of Misplaced Pages's naming conventions is that second and subsequent words should be lowercase unless the term is a proper noun or is always or almost always capitalized. Digital subscriber line is not a proper noun, but it is frequently capitalized. However, I do not think that it is capitalized frequently enough to have the article's name be capitalized. I suspect that it is only capitalized at all because the acronym DSL is used so often. The letters in the acronym are capitalized, so people may think that the expanded version should be capitalized (see acronym and initialism), and people may also capitalize it to show where the letters in the acronym come from, as the first instance of the term is usually "Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)" and then it is referred to as DSL from then on. I have found many instances of digital subscriber line not being capitalized, including: Cisco Press, Webopedia, McGraw-Hill, Stanford Report (Stanford University), CNET, How Stuff Works and International Engineering Consortium. News organizations, which follow the rules of English to a greater extent than other organizations, frequently do not capitalize digital subscriber line. 9 out of 18 sites on the first two pages of the Google News search, at the time I am writing this, have DSL uncapitalized. 2 out of the 20 sites listed are not counted because the term is only given in a headline that capitalizes every important word and some non-important ones. I think that the capitalization of digital subscriber line is an error, as per acronym and initialism, and that Misplaced Pages should not repeat the mistake. Finally, it is confusing when Misplaced Pages chooses slightly/somewhat more popular usage over correct usage. — Kjkolb 10:53, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Charlie Barnett swapped with Charlie Barnett (actor)

Charlie Barnett and Charlie Barnett (actor) currently have the correct contents, and the links pointing to them have also been corrected. But I did this the wrong way (copying and pasting rather than move) so the histories and talk pages are now wrong. So, I believe the pages contents need to be swapped and then the two pages with histories can be properly moved. Since there were prior moves, I cannot fix this myself. Film punctuation → Film transition

This is the standard film industry term for what is described in the article. It is also the term used on many non-linear editing softwares.

Tinea versicolor → Pityriasis versicolor

ICD9 (International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems) clearly indicates that official international term is 'Pityriasis versicolor' with alternative terms being "Infection by Malassezia furfur, Tinea flava, Tinea versicolor".   • Suvarnabhumi Airport should be the name of the article.
  • Don Mueang International Airport should be the name of the old article.
  • Bangkok International Airport should be a disambiguation page, which gives links to both.

The current move is flat-out wrong. Suvarnabhumi Airport is official name of the airport. According to Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions (Chinese), Chinese names should be presented with their last names first unless there is a special case of the name in English ordering being more notable. There is no evidence that the later is true, with "Xu Huaiwen" appearing as often as "Huaiwen Xu" even in German texts.
