Samuel J. Reader (1836 - 1914) was a diarist and artist who wrote about his experiences living in Kansas including during the Bleeding Kansas era. He was born in Pennsylvania in 1836 and settled on a farm near Indianola, Kansas in 1855. His journal includes accounts related to several Civil War battles.
