Vijay Singh Deol (born 27 January 1967), commonly known as Bobby Deol, is an Indian actor. He was born in India and is of Punjabi origin.

Biography

Career

His first film role was a very brief appearance as a younger Dharam in Dharam Veer in 1977 where he played the younger version of his father's character.

He made his debut as a leading man in the 1995 film Barsaat, for which he won a Filmfare Best Debut Award. Although the film flopped, Bobby was recognized and his performance was appreciated. In 1997 Bobby Deol starred in his next film with Kajol, titled Gupt which went on to become the fifth highest grossing film of the year.

He continued to star in a few flop movies until 1998 when he had his second hit with Soldier. His next few films Badal and Bichhoo in 2000 were moderately successful.

He then appeared in the thrillers Ajnabee (2001) where his performance were appreciated and Humraaz (2002) where he was nominated for a Filmfare Best Actor Award. Succeeding films have not done as well.

His movies with elder brother, Sunny Deol such as Dillagi (1999) and 23 March 1942: Shaheed (2002) have not done well at the box office, but have gained the two some critical acclaim for their on-screen chemistry.

He will next star in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom directed by Shaad Ali, under the leading production house Yash Raj Films. The movie will co-star Abhishek Bachchan and Preity Zinta, and will release in 2007.

Personal life

Bobby Deol is the second son to Dharmendra, a legendary Bollywood actor, and Prakash Kaur. His elder brother Sunny Deol is also a famous actor. Bobby also has two real sisters Nonu Deol and Dolly deol two half-sisters born from father's second wife (actress Hema Malini), whose names are Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.

Bobby Deol is married to Tanya Ahuja with whom he has two children. His eldest son's name is Aryaman, born in 2001. His second son was born November 5, 2004 and was named "Dharam" after his grandfather.
