Aiden is an American post hardcore band from Seattle, Washington that formed in the spring of 2003. The current members of Aiden are Wil Francis (vocals), Jake Wambold (guitar), Jake Davison (drums), Nick Wiggins (bass), and Angel Ibarra (guitar).
Biography
The group formed while its members were still in high school, taking their name from the young boy in The Ring. Their first full-length was released on Dead Teenager Records Our Gangs Dark Oath, and later re-released by Victory Records.
In 2004, the band were signed to Victory Records. Their second album, and debut for Victory Records, was released October 4 and titled Nightmare Anatomy.
In 2006, they contributed a remix of "The Last Sunrise" for the soundtrack to Underworld: Evolution, and had their song "Die Romantic" featured on the EA Sports' game NCAA MVP Baseball 2006. Aiden was also part of the 2006 Kerrang Awards in August. They took the award of "Best International Newcomer," after being pitted against Panic! At The Disco, Wolfmother, Angels and Airwaves and From First To Last. Aiden was part of the Kerrang XXV tour in January 2006. In May-June 2006, Aiden toured with the Finnish band HIM. The band recently finished the 2006 Warped Tour alongside such bands as NOFX and Eighteen Visions. They plan to release an EP title "Rain In Hell" on October 31st, 2006, and are touring with Silverstein in October and November 2006.
Music style
Aiden combines post-hardcore and emocore attitudes. Taking influence from bands such as Avenged Sevenfold, Thursday and My Chemical Romance. Aiden has claimed on their official website that they play Horror Rock, however the band do not share the same characteristics as the bands belonging to the horror rock genre, nor the same fanbase.
Criticism
Aiden has received criticism because the group appears to imitate the band AFI. Some are of the opinion that the group dishonors AFI by imitating the sound AFI took over a decade to develop. The group has also been criticised because of its mallgoth image--they are sometimes referred to as a "mallcore" band. {{citation}}
: Empty citation (help) However, Aiden receives strong support from media outlets such as Kerrang! who placed the band on the front cover of its magazine twice.
Aiden was bottled constantly during both of their UK festival dates; Download Festival 2006, and Reading Festival 2006. The latter of which Francis appeared on stage baiting the crowd "Let’s see what you got, you fucking pussies!", there were apparently few Aiden fans there and the band was subsequently bottled with urine filled water bottles.
