What inspired your username?
Just curious, what inspired your username? Why did you choose that? If your desired username was already taken, what would you have called yourself? For example: My username is Jam01. I chose that because my real name is James; therefore Jam is derived from James & the 01 makes it sound more interesting and less silly than just being called "Jam". If that was already taken, I probably would have been "Jam stinx" which is my (usually) other alibi on the web. Now it's your turn! I am interested! Thanks, - Jam01 22:01, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- Damn, I knew somebody would ask this question. I eventually intend to add the info to my user page. The short answer has to do with Sailor Saturn and Yoshi. -SaturnYoshi 22:06, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- Bottesini -- ßottesiηi 22:10, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I didnt want to have a name like Craig123 or something, I wanted short and original, useful and rememberable. Look I'll show you something cool.
- Click on Start or press the Windows Key (assuming your OS is Windows XP).
- Go to Run and open it up (or just press R).
- Type my name, Dfrg.msc.
- Press Enter or Click OK.
- And that's how that came about. Dfrg.msc 22:35, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- Dfrg, do you happen to like defragging your hard drive?
- My username comes from the anime Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, a show that I like. As I say on my userpage, I share a lot of qualities with the Tachikoma robots in the show: eager to explore, curious about everything, and easily distracted. At the time I first registered on Misplaced Pages, I wanted to be entirely anonymous. Now that I feel more comfortable using my real name, I don't want to lose my edit count by changing the account name, so I'm just changing my signature. Speaking of which, how do you like my new sig (for those of you who can see the font)? --Kyoko 22:48, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- Couldn't you just page-move your user page and still keep your count intact? -SaturnYoshi 22:55, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- My understanding is that if you create a new account, you begin with a 0 edit count. I could be wrong. In any case, it's not a big deal if my account name remains "Tachikoma", since I can change my signature anyway. --Kyoko 23:03, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- It's not creating a new account. It's moving your user page to a new name. -SaturnYoshi 23:07, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- I just checked Misplaced Pages:Changing username, and it says that the name change process is hard on the servers, so I won't bother. Besides, I have an account on French Misplaced Pages too (where name changing is not allowed) and it's handy to be able to keep track of my own contributions across different language wikis. Anyway, thanks for the advice. --Kyoko 23:29, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- Goo Goo Ga'Joob? Yea, mines kinda obvious....really didn't think about the user name, if it wasn't this one, it would be "Palixia" from my NationStates Nation Name --IAMTHEEGGMAN 22:58, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- I chose my name because during 6th Grade graduation, I had to wear a Black Suit, and stand out in the hot sun... Well that's my name origin.--SUIT 23:05, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- Already replied, but demon computer didn't save it... I joined when I started editing the boatload of grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors on Misplaced Pages. I only intended to make classic editor edits; sentence structure, grammar spelling punctuation, and formatting -- I actually ended up creating three new articles (on some of the mayors of Ottawa) in my first seven days of editing! — Editor at Large 02:25, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

- Well, my username is just my real name with my birthdate at the end of it. I use it almost everywhere I need an account. If its taken I usually go for a modification of it. And my signature is that way because I actually typed that when I made first edit, asking questions on the Reference Desk. :-) I haven't changed my signature for quite sometime now. From an oldid of my userpage:
‘crazytales’ is of my own invention, referencing that my mom tells weird stories (crazy tales) about the family at family gatherings. An example of this is that time a deer hit us while Mom was driving. Mom stopped the car to assess the damage; Amy (my sister) was going ‘is the deer okay?!’, I was going ‘is the car okay?!’, and Dad was going ‘oh SHIT MAN, how much is this going to cost me, how long will I have to skip bananas to pay for this?!’. We all left Mom wondering ‘who cares about me?! The deer *did* hit on my side....’

Anyone have odd family trees?
I'm currently 13 years old. I have an uncle (mom's cousin) that is probably 11 yrs. old. I have 2 nieces that are probably 8 and 11 yrs. old. And right this moment, I found out that my cousin is pregnant, so I will soon have a neice as well. Now get this: the older neice that I have right now (11 yrs. old) and my youngest uncle (11 yrs. old) share the same age, yet are related as granduncle-grandneice!!!! How weird is that???!!!--Ed contribs 20:46, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

- On my mom's side, two of my mom's brothers married a mother and daughter. This makes the cousins by the younger marriage simultaneously the grandkids AND the greatgrandkids of my grandmother. On my dad's side, my grandmother married her aunt's husband's nephew; two of her cousins also married brothers of her husband. No blood relatives married, but a very close family overall! --Jayron32 05:30, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
Chicken/Egg
Which do you think cae first the chicken or the egg? Why?
Pro-Chicken
The Chicken because an egg would not be able to survive by itself. Eggs need to be warmed by a parent, and when hatched they need something to take care of it, show it how to survive. - Mit kebes 13:33, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- however, this does not state whether or not the chicken/egg came first. This is just the care-taking of an egg. Randfan 18:04, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
How would you abruptly get a chicken egg? Even by evolutionary standards, you don't just wait a long time and suddenly find a single chicken egg. How would it possibly mate without another of its kind? bibliomaniac15 03:32, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- A pre-chicken bird would still mate with its own kind- it just had a slight mutation that developed over time into our chicken. The genetic materials would be compadable with each other because obviously the evolution is an adaptation for the better so eventually all/most pre-chickens would have it. Randfan 17:40, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- Chicken. But the egg could have poofed into existance... No, I'll stick with chicken.--SUIT 03:34, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
Pro-Egg
I'm pro-egg because the genetic material doesn'tchange from egg to its older form. Therefore the first chicken as we know it would have come from an egg (some pre-chicken bird layed the egg with a mutation in it that later turned into the our chicken). Randfan 00:32, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'm pro-egg, but the real question is how do you define a chicken? The egg would have come first, but the point at which the egg contains what we call a chicken (instead of, I guess a lizard or dinosaur) would be hard to define.--Kyoko 14:40, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with Kyoko 14:40, 23 October 2006 (UTC). I look up how we would define chicken.
- for now I'll call it:
Gallus gallus, a domestic fowl bred for flesh or eggs; believed to have been developed from the red jungle fowl.Randfan 18:05, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'm pro-egg. How could a chicken come into being without an egg? Eggs were also around long before chickens.Hemhem20X6 15:29, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- How can you be pro-anything if you don't know why which came first in your mind? For us "eggers" the egg cae from some long dead species of bird or lizard. For the "clux", you'll have to just ask them... Randfan 21:11, 23 October 2006 (UTC) P.S. the nicknames could be better....
- Silly question. Of course, the egg came first. It's what's for breakfast. Chicken is for lunch. Jcam 22:14, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- Eggs predate chickens. Dinosaurs laid eggs. There were no chickens during the age of dinosaurs (indeed, chickens are descended from egg-laying dinosaurs). Ergo, eggs came first. --Jayron32 05:32, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
Indesicive or otherwise
- The egg of a Red Junglefowl - I think the "chicken or the egg" thing refers to a chicken egg. Would you count that as the chicken (since it's not a chicken egg) or the egg (since it's still an egg)? --Friendly Porpoise 11:06, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- The egg came first, but only after the chicken. haz (talk) e 16:54, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Mole
Happy mole day everyone! ('specially "eggers" 'cause they're my group)
Sowhich came first the mole or the egg? Randfan 21:19, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- The egg, silly! Avogadro came much much later. Let's see how many people understand! Rather of an inside joke. --Kyoko 14:25, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- Now I get it. LOL Randfan 16:45, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

- I am listening to Andrea Bocelli's Un Nuovo Giorno for the 6.02th time! x I started listening to it at 10:23, will probably continue until forever. Though, on second thought, NaH! Never mind. COt it3 — Editor at Large 02:48, 25 October 2006 (UTC) The preceeding cryptic comment was added by an extremely scavenged user.
- This is an explanation of the whole mole day thing, for those of you who don't get it:
- I'm not talking about mole (animal), mole (sauce), or mole (skin marking). I was thinking about mole (unit), which is used in chemistry.
- Have you ever looked at the Periodic table of elements? You'll see that for every element in the detailed version of it, they list its atomic mass. For example, hydrogen (H) has an atomic mass of 1.00794 (let's round that to 1), oxygen has an atomic mass of 15.9994 (let's round that to 16). That means that for water, which is made up of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, you have 1 + 1 + 16 = 18 as its molecular mass.
- There's this number called Avogadro's number, which is approximately 6.022 x 10. The 10 part means that it's 10 multiplied by 10, 23 times, a huge number. This is equivalent to 602200000000000000000. Anyway, somehow scientists figured out that if you get 6.022 x 10 atoms of an element together, the whole bunch will have a collective mass of whatever their atomic mass is, expressed in grams. This would be one mole of the element. So one mole of hydrogen would have a mass of approximately 1 gram, one mole of oxygen would have a mass of about 16 grams, and so on. This works with chemical compounds too, so one mole of pure water or H2O would have a mass of roughly 18 grams.
- Mole Day is an unofficial holiday celebrated by chemists in North America, on October 23, between 6:02 AM and 6:02 PM, making the date 6:02 10/23 in the American style of writing dates. The time and date are derived from Avogadro's number, which is approximately 6.02×10.
- And so you see what Mole Day is all about. --Kyoko 18:58, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Computer
My AC Adaptor broke, so now I can't access by laptop (thus I can't edit Misplaced Pages). By the way, why the hell do AC Adaptors cost over 100 dollars? That's over 1/10 the cost of the entire laptop...--TBCΦtalk? 03:35, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
- The manufaturors need money.--SUIT 03:37, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
- They cost $60 or so if you shop around. ~crazytales56297 04:48, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- It's like with cars. They make the original product affordable, and then charge 10x the real cost for replacement parts that weren't meant to last in the first place! Did you know that GM once had an electric car on the test market (distributed to only a certain number of people for a certain amount of time), and they took it off, even though it passed with flying colours and people LOVED them, and destroyed them all because the parts hardly ever needed replacing? That's how GM makes all their money, and they weren't getting any profit off the vehicle. sad. — Editor at Large 12:14, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza Members
According to the Misplaced Pages statistics page, there are about 2,576,605 registered users (at the time of writing). By my very rough calculations, 0.03% of registered users are Esperanzians (as there are currently 712 active Esperanzians). I found this to be rather interesting. Any ideas how we could kind of "advertise" Esperanza to other Wikipedians? Thanks, Jam01 06:32, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, we need a "boost".But how? Attacking random User talk pages with baloons and streamers? Tha'ts what I would do. Dfrg.msc 06:51, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- Remember that most of those "users" are probably inactive. One time I did a user domain search for "anthropology" (I was looking for other people interested in starting an anthro wikiproject, which I kinda gave up on, maybe I should restart it). Anyhoo, I looked at dozens of users and only 4 or 5 had made any edits within the preceding 3 months or so, and of those, only one or two were actively editing. Add in the sockpuppets and sleeper accounts and the number of users is probably much smaller. Ungovernable Force 06:54, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- You do have a point there, Ungovernable Force. However, those statistics were calculated based purely on that page, and I'm not really sure if there is a way to accurately calculate the number of "true" Wikipedians. As for "advertising" ideas, I will try and think of a few. Cheers, Jam01 07:13, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Yes, most registered accounts are used for a single edit or never used at all - just check out the new user log. I think I remember a statistic that there were only a few thousand active contributors (the group to which esperanza appeals). Keeping that in mind, it is actually very popular, and I feel that it gets plenty of exposure with all the green e's and userboxes. -- ßottesiηi 15:41, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- How do you join Esperanza? --Monkey13! 21:32, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- It's on the page? List of members or something? Dfrg.msc 07:53, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Well in any case Esperanza needs more members. How do we get more members? You ask. Recruitment! I loudly state. How do we recruit? I also hear you ask. Well, this is the place for discussion. We can propose some things here and then move them to the Esperanza Talk page or the Esperanza Proposals Page. Ok, so:
- I'm inclined to agree with Bottesini; we get a pretty steady influx of members from both the green e's and various userboxes and other information on people's userpages. Though, if this is something that you'd like to be considered, bringing it up at WT:ESP is probably a good idea. -- Natalya 20:08, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- Just a note, of the members of Misplaced Pages that actually contribute how much of a percentage of those are in Esperanza? I was under the impression a user account even if blocked, inactive or otherwise is still listed as a registered user. The only way I can figure promoting Esperanza might be to persuade the current members to at least link to the Esperanza page on their user pages or otherwise perhaps to actually promote Esperanza on their user pages. Holy frack
I did it. I basically removed all items from my watch list. I kept a very few select pages and my user subpages, and a few others, but most of them are GONE. I've been feeling sort of burned out lately with WP:Figure Skating and wasn't even paying attention to it, so I've decided to let it be. It has a few active members, so maybe I'll check up on it in a few months. But for now, removing the 100s of figure skating pages I had on my watch list feels like a weight off my shoulders. Now maybe I can actually pay attention to the few pages that remain. Phew. --Fang Aili 14:52, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- Holy frack indeed. My watchlist had been cut down, and now it's back up to 1581 items. I only pay attention to a small fraction of that, though, and use the rest as handy bookmarks for future reference. --Kyoko 15:13, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- I am also trying to reduce the load of my watchlist so that I may concentrate on select pages only. I found that too many pages were like a load. --Bhadani 15:41, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- How many pages on your watchlist do you consider too much? I've got 260 and feel that that is easy to handle; I plan on adding more as I begin to go into the areas of the Warriors series of novels (hopefully one day make a WikiProject Warriors) and the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series. I'll probably end up with upwards of 500, and even that is small. My friend ReyBrujo (you might recognize the name, he's active in lots of other places) has something like 3000. - Good stuff, Erica! It's one of those put-it-off-until-it's-absolutely-necessary tasks that nobody wants to do, congrats for making yourself do it ;)
I thin mine out several times a week and it still manages to get above 400 almost every day. Last week it was at 350, today (after cleaning) it's at 421! I think the main reason is my vandalism reverts -- sometimes 20 at a time, then 20 warnings, which adds 40 pages in one day (not including real edits). I find that when I have too many pages, especially ones that get a lot of edits, my watchlist only shows stuff that was edited in the past few hours. This is annoying when I don't get a chance to get on every day and have to check all the pages manually. — Editor at Large 11:38, 27 October 2006 (UTC)- I have about 30 pages on my watch list and that enough. I couldn't handle anymore than that. Whispering 19:48, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

I need help
I don't have a name here, but I saw that you help stressed people. I am very stressed because my best friend, (I'm in ninth grade) likes my girlfriend. We both know it, but he tries to act like I don't. I have been on one date with her, and I wnt to keep it going. I m just worried that he will ask her out, and i will lose her. I dont want to fight him over this, but I don't see any other way. Thank you for helping me.70.124.132.176 04:13, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- We help people with Misplaced Pages issues, not personal issues in real life. Understand? Don't bring matters like that here, thank you. I'm sorry if I sound like I don't care Because I don't. What? I've had a stressfull day. I dunno, someone else help him....--SUIT 04:17, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, come on now, everyone has a bad time every now and again. I don't think it hurts to help real life issues every now and again. Anyway, cheer up emo kid! Your only in ninth grade, you'll find someone better than her eventually. Remember, you don't and never will own her or anyone else, so if she wants to go out with your friend, that's on her and is her decision to make. Of course, I think a real friend would have enough respect to not try and get involved with a girl you are currently dating, but again, that's his decision. And as they say, if you really love someone, sometimes you need to let them go. I doubt your at the level of love yet though, so maybe that doesn't work. But still, if she's happier with someone else, you need to let her pursue her desires and be truly happy. If you really care about her you need to be willing to do that. It sucks but it's life and it happens sometimes. Ungovernable Force 05:06, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Why don't you try talking to your friend and girlfriend and asking them what their intentions are? Sometimes getting the matter out into the air can help. Just don't lose your cool, and if your friend starts to get mad or upset try to calm him down and say "I'm just trying to figure this out so I understand where we are, here." It might sound retarded and embarassing, but it works -- trust me! — Editor at Large 11:20, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

A good friend supports you and would never try to let you down. So you have to ask yourself: Has your best friend really been a good friend?--Ed contribs 20:26, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
2500th edit!
This is my 2500th edit! Actually, it's my 2503rd, I missed the mark, okay? So, yeah. I got 867 mainspace, gotta get 133 more for 1000, and then hopefully an RFA, if I'm lucky. Course I still gotta get 500 more for a 3000 total, but that shouldn't take long. It was only like two weeks ago that I had 2000 right? :) I'm happy though. DoomsDay349 00:29, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Gadgets
I am currently looking at two different gadgets: a watch, and an mp3 player. The watch has some cool features, including the ability to store 150 telephone numbers. I don't really need it, but I do need a new watch, and I think this one is cool. The mp3 player is a iPod alternative, that I personally think is better. It has 4 GB of memory (flash), and can also play videos, and has an FM tuner. The watch is a Casio Databank, and the mp3 player is a SanDisk Sansa e260. What do you think about these? Do you have anything you like better? Shardsofmetal 03:48, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- Ipods are useless, disgusting wastes of memory that are destroying the youth of America (this from a 14 year old natural-born American, but I am a conservative!). Watches, however, are a practical piece of equipment, and despite an abnormally large amount of telephone number stroage, it's useful. But honestly, I hate Ipods. I mean, as if music wasn't occupying enough of our time, now we have nice compact ways to further destroy our brain cells. Amazing what technology can do, eh? DoomsDay349 03:58, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

- Dancer here. I don't have an Ipod, but my friends download their music (classical) for their dances and listen to it to familiarise themselves with the tempo, rhythm, and timing for the steps. I'm jealous... they can tuck it into the pocket of their warmups and it doesn't get in the way. Contrast that to my chunky cdplayer and stack of CDs... — Editor at Large 04:43, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- A dancer and a prosecuter? You do it all! But anyway, now that is a practical use of an Ipod, I must say. But like I said, mostly, Ipods are useless. DoomsDay349 04:46, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

- Well, my two great loves are music and politics (which are ususally blended together, as evidenced by my entry on User:Phaedriel/Soundtrack of Wikipedians). Anyways, I'm split on the whole i-pod/mp3 player thing. I'm thinking of saving my money and finally getting one for a few reasons. First, my cd player keeps eating through batteries and mp3 players are rechargable. A cd player is bulky as mentioned above, and deciding which of my dozens of cd's to take with me gets annoying, especially when I'm away from home and have a weird craving for something I didn't bring. Plus, I don't have to waste as much money or oil (cd's are plastic) on purchasing cd's that I would otherwise burn, I can just rip them and put them on the player. I do find it sad that we all create our own isolated atmospheres of music wherever we go instead of interacting with one another, but I usually think about this most when I'm in the middle of doing it. In other words, I'm a hypocrite on that issue. I was even thinking of writing a song on that issue when I finally get into a band. I was recently invited to sing in a folk-punk band but I've got too many other commitments, and it's in the next town over and takes 1 1/2 hours to get there on the bus. Ungovernable Force 05:47, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- I bus 1 1/2 hours in and back to my dance company, five to seven times a week -- which is why I want an Ipod! Three hours on the bus after three hours of dancing means I fall asleep more often than not... — Editor at Large 16:28, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

-de-indent- I would use an iPod, as I have a big music collection (~3gb) managed through iTunes, but they're pretty expensive. I would have to be really careful, something I don't have to do with my $40 cd player. ~crazytales56297 16:05, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- I do use an iPod (4th generation 40GB), but my music collection is much bigger than its capacity. Let's see... I currently have 42.05 GB on the computer, and that's only about 25% of my music collection.
- BTW, you can use an iPod to keep track of the time and to keep track of telephone numbers. --Kyoko 01:32, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Somebody to take over
I am going to be inactive for some time now. As I was taking care of the archives of this talk pge, I'll need somebody else to take care of it.
Instructions for archiving:
- Werdnabot will archive the threads to the archive
- Archives should contain no more than 10 threads
- If you see that an archive has more than 10 threads, remove the excess threads and move them it to a new archive
- To the top of each archive, add:
{{Misplaced Pages:Esperanza/Coffee lounge/Archives/Notice}} {{Misplaced Pages:Esperanza/Coffee lounge/Archives}}
- Add the archive link to Misplaced Pages:Esperanza/Coffee lounge/Archives. Remember the colour of the background should be alternating. Check out how it's been done before.
- Check out the dates of the threads of the archive and add the beginning and end dates in front of the archive number.
- Remember to move the
</noinclude>
tag down, so that only 25 archive links are between the<noinclude>
and the</noinclude>
tags. The</noinclude>
is currently after the 25th archive link. - And of course, remember to update the archive to which Werdnabot moves the threads. Change the template on this page to
{{subst:User:Werdnabot/Archiver/Template|age=5|target=Misplaced Pages:Esperanza/Coffee lounge/Archives/**}}
, replacing "**" with some number.

Satan is a Christian concept, therefore Satanism is the anti-form to Christianity. Without one, there is no other. Paganism does not need the existence of another religion for it to exist. Most Pagan religions existed before the onset of Christianity. Also, not beleiving in the Christian God does not make one a Devil worshipper. -サターン・ヨッシー 08:41, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, so pagan can mean several things 1)Anyone who isn't (insert name of religion here) used as an insult. 2)Any of a number of religions which share common elements that usually include animism and/or polytheism, connectedness to the Earth and it's cycles and, um, probably other stuff I'm forgetting. 3)Um, not sure, I'm sure there are others. Oh, perhaps neo-paganism which is a mixed bag of religious and spiritual ideas which people try to pass off as recreations of older pagan religions. Whether they actually are sorta depends on the situation. Anyways, using definition 2, Christmas and Easter are also derived from pagan holidays. Oh, and as for the first question, the Grim Reaper with a Bush mask made of a picture I just printed off of wikipedia. DIY costume making at it's best. Ungovernable Force 09:46, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

- Novels, not really (a few written, never tried to publish them). But other stuff yes. See user page :)
Tennisman, good luck in that endeavour. I think what you are attempting is utterly impossible: even those books have obvious similarities to each other...— Pumpkin Editor, at Large! 22:08, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Interesting page
Interesting page created by Jimbo Wales. Was this a random, meaningless edit or an attempt at parodying Misplaced Pages's numerous other associations? The world will never know... --TBCΦtalk? 08:44, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Motto
Is it just me or is the Motto of the Day steadily descending into a pit of anarchy and lawlessness? Anyway, the New Coffee Lounge Picture looks great! Congrads, Bottesini! Dfrg.msc 05:24, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Festive season plans?
Is anyone here planning to do something interesting during the festive (Christmas) season? I'm going to Melbourne for 2 weeks, but that's about all. So, are you going anywhere or doing anything around Christmas time? (yes, I know its a bit early) Jam01 06:48, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
The Ignore all Rules paradox
Taken from Misplaced Pages:List of Wikipedian contradictions and paradoxes: If one ignores the rule Misplaced Pages:Ignore all rules, then he would be following the rule, thus not ignoring all rules. Yet if one follows the rule Misplaced Pages:Ignore all rules then he would be ignoring the rule, thus he would not longer be ignoring all rules. Any opinions on it?--TBCΦtalk? 17:24, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- Lets Just Ignore it. Philc TC 17:38, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- If the title of the page is "Ignore all rules" then by ignoring the page you're ignoring all rules and by ignoring all rules you're following the rule ignoring all rules which means you're not actually ignoring all rules and in not ignoring all rules you're not following the ignore all rules page. Does that work, or did I just chase my tail? — Pumpkin Editor, at Large! 17:43, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- Ignoring does not mean disregarding in the sense that you are to acknowledge the rule and then purposefully disobey it. Ignoring means to act as though the rule does not exist. If the rule does not exist in the first place, then you remove the tautology, and that solves your problem. If you acknowledge the rule as actually existing, then you are NOT ignoring the rule, you are merely disobeying it. If you truly ignore it, there is no conflict; no paradox. --Jayron32 03:51, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- To ignore is to refrain from noticing the rule. To disobey is to completey neglect it. Regardless, though one user may no longer acknowledge the existance of the rule, it does not guarantee that all other users will do so as well. Thus, in the end, it all depends on "eye of the beholder", whether the user is the one ignoring the rule or one who simply percieves others ignoring it.--TBCΦtalk? 07:06, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
