Ableton Live
I just added a section on Sasha's present use of Ableton Live for his live sets. He seems to be the first major DJ routinely mixing with a computer instead of decks, so it really sets him apart from other DJ's. This is my first major edit, so I hope it's appropriate! — Nogard5 20:52, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Are there any citations for this?--Paul E. Ester 16:10, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
- It is widely known in the EDM community that sasha uses Live, ive seen his monitors and he was running Live, plus there's a lot of pictures on the net with him using it, pluus pluus, I think is mentioned on Ableton's site. Ivand Olivero 21:16, 4 June 2006 (EST)
- I'm doing some major rewriting, sourcing and everything. If anyone has any especially useful links to articles/interviews or whatever involving Sasha, that'd be great. Info regarding Sasha and Digweed's relationship, touring, and stuff about Sasha's youth would be especially useful. Wickethewok 22:17, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
Draft
I put up what I have so far. I realize that the citations aren't in the correct format, but I will fix that in later versions. Any resources, online articles, other sourced information, etc. would be awesome! Wickethewok 22:54, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- Okies, I completed what I needed to do on my subpage, so this is no longer undergoing a rewrite elsewhere. Wickethewok 21:20, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
GA Nomination
I've nominated this for Good Article for hopes of feedback and getting some recognition for it. The peer review didn't generate any user feedback aside from automated feedback. I'd like to get this up to FA status, but can't really do that if I never get any feedback/other editors involved in this. Wickethewok 03:38, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- I saw your comment and just thought i'd say that you haven't done anything wrong by nominating it for a GA, just taking a cursory glance at it, the article seems GA worthy, but since its at the top of the list, it wouldn't be fair for me to immedietly review it :/. Homestarmy 05:59, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
Good article nominee
I would pass this as a good article but it has two major problems: (1) The second lead paragraph is totally POV. Lead paragraphs summarize teh article. (2) The "Influence" section in only one paragraph, and really should be merged with the Early Years section, since it is expansion (and retread) or that topic.--Esprit15d 18:04, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- Heya thanks for the feedback. I merged the "Influence" section throughout to appropriate locations. I also attempted to fix the second lead paragraph. Please tell me if you have any further suggestions. Wickethewok 18:21, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
date format
according to the manual of style the birthdate should be in () like:
- Serena Williams (born September 26, 1981)
Course it's pretty dorky to read:
- Sasha, born Alexander Coe (born September 4, 1969), is a Welsh DJ
What about:
- Alexander Coe (AKA Sasha) (born September 4, 1969), is a Welsh DJ
I think the way it is written now would imply Sasha is his legal name which I don't think you've indicated, and is it more normally dj sasha or just sasha? The disambigulation page implies dj sasha.
BTW amazing work with the article so far. thanks. --Paul E. Ester 19:00, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm, well, Sasha is a common nickname or a "diminutive version" of "Alexander", so I think Esprit15d's change to
- Alexander "Sasha" Coe (born September 4, 1969)
is consistent with nicknames (I've never read anything that's lead me to believe he actually legally changed his name. Most often in articles I've read, CDs/records, and such, he is almost always referred to as "Sasha" as opposed to "DJ Sasha". I don't think any of his mix album covers/credits have ever called him "DJ Sasha". As a side note, over the past ten years or so, prefacing your name/artist name with "DJ" has become a bit passe. Auto Peer Review
The following suggestions were generated by a semi-automatic javascript program, and may or may not be accurate for the article in question.
Per WP:MOSNUM, there should be a non-breaking space -
between a number and the unit of measurement. For example, instead of 18mm, use 18 mm, which when you are editing the page, should look like: 18 mm.- Per WP:CONTEXT and WP:BTW, years with full dates should be linked; for example, link January 15, 2006, but do not link January 2006.
Watch for redundancies that make the article too wordy instead of being crisp and concise. (You may wish to try Tony1's redundancy exercises.)While additive terms like “also”, “in addition”, “additionally”, “moreover”, and “furthermore” may sometimes be useful, overusing them when they aren't necessary can instead detract from the brilliancy of the article. This article has 15 additive terms, a bit too much.Vague terms of size often are unnecessary and redundant - “some”, “a variety/number/majority of”, “several”, “a few”, “many”, “any”, and “all”. For example, “Allpigs are pink, so we thought ofa number ofways to turn them green.”
As done in WP:FOOTNOTE, footnotes usually are located right after a punctuation mark (as recommended by the CMS, but not mandatory), such that there is no space inbetween. For example, the sun is larger than the moon . is usually written as the sun is larger than the moon. Please ensure that the article has gone through a thorough copyediting so that the it exemplifies some of Misplaced Pages's best work. See also User:Tony1/How to satisfy Criterion 2a.

- Alrite, I fixed all the stuff I could find. I removed a good deal of redundancies I couldn't find any years with full dates that weren't linked properly, nor could I find any inappropriately placed footnotes. Could someone point me to them? Wickethewok 04:07, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

COMMENTS IN ALL CAPS FROM ANON EDITOR
- JAMES ZABIELA INFLUENCED KIMBALL COLLINS? CLEARLY THE AUTHOR OF THIS ARTICLE IS COMPLETELY CLUELESS, HAS NO SENSE OF TIME (OR THE FACT THAT COLLINS WAS AT THE HEIGHT OF HIS SUCCESS WHEN ZABIELA WAS STILL AT SCHOOL), AND PROBABLY WROTE THIS WHOLE PAGE AFTER READING A FEW BOOKS!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.11.80.36 (talk • contribs)
- Yes, I did write it after reading a few books. And online articles. And listening to Sasha's music for the past 10 years. I did fix the line in question - I can see how it was misleading. Collins was clearly popular before any influence from Sasha, which is why Collins is described as "already popular". As for whether or not Sasha in fact had an influence on Collins, I suggest you take that up with Bill Brewster, who wrote the book I got that from. Wickethewok 16:27, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

FAC
Good job cleaning this up and making it accessible to a general audience. I learned a lot about Sasha and electronic dance music just by reading the article and wound up wanting to listen to some of his music. I'd love to see it featured on the main page some time. KP Botany 19:17, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for your kind words! Do you still object on the FAC? Wickethewok 20:15, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- No, I don't at this point. It's already better than some articles that have recently been on the front page. However, if it appears I still object, because I didn't strike through the correct line, feel free to correct via strike throughs on the FAC page as needed. You still have some work to do, I will post comments, but I enjoyed the article, it's well-written, it's researched properly, it's neutral, the language is rich, the topic is the right scope for an article, and, most amazing! and proper!, you quoted words and phrases that you used from other sources, absolutely necessary, but not always properly done in a lot of Misplaced Pages articles. KP Botany 20:24, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Sasha's singles
Just wondering, for a DJ who's been out since 1989, Sasha should have more singles than the ones put in this article. I'm struggling to find some more of him, but I'm not having any luck. I was wondering if I could have some assistance. Thanks. Punkalicious 13:50, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- The discography is only a selected discography - this means that not all of Sasha's singles are listed here, just the major ones. Otherwise the discography section would be pretty large and not as useful for finding the important releases. Anyways, Sasha - Discogs has pretty comprehensive listing of Sasha's releases. However, Sasha really doesn't have that many singles - I only count a few more than a dozen. He has however done a lot of remix work. Wickethewok 14:43, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- I failed to realize that. Thanks for claryfing. Punkalicious 17:17, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Sasha's dvd's

Requested move 5 July 2018
- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: No consensus on the Welsh DJ; Jamaican deejay moved to Sasha (Jamaican musician). And next time, please try to do one thing at a time as much as possible. I read this and reread this and still don't know why the German singer got dragged into this as that Sasha ain't a DJ. Try again later and it'll probably be successful. – Note: There is currenly another discussion about moving Sascha Schmitz to Sasha (singer).
Okay here we go. Hello, I think that these articles might not have the right titles. Please add suggestions following my justification for this.
Firstly, I would like to counter use of "Welsh". I believe that the country here is considered to be the United Kingdom, as that is the country that Wales is part of, so the nationality should be British, not Welsh or English. See also my move request at Talk:Hybrid (Welsh band). The articles also both describe Sasha as British in their opening sentences, and he is subjectively better known for working within England and around the UK, though this may be deemed a null point as it does not define nationality. So to summarise, a potential better title would be Sasha (British DJ).
However, there may be no need for nationality disambiguation at all, and that's where I tie Sasha (Jamaican deejay) into this. It has recently been moved per my request away from Sasha (Jamaican DJ). See the request at Talk:Sasha (Jamaican deejay). In short, a Jamaican deejay and disc jockey are not the same thing, and labelling her as a DJ is inaccurate and confusing for readers. However, I went by what the article was formerly titled to arrive at the conclusion that I did, but it may not be correct. So that's when I ask, what is she?
So this is the part when I rope in yet more Sashas into this. So as the note at the top says, Sascha Schmitz (whose stage name is also simply Sasha), is also in discussion for move, to a title better suited to WP:COMMONNAME. See the discussion at Talk:Sascha Schmitz. My initial idea was, of course, to name him Sasha (singer). But as an editor rightfully pointed out, this would have readers confuse him with Sasha Gradiva, a Russian singer. So whilst not technically needed, the reader-friendly disambiguated title for him would be Sasha (German singer). (This is not relative to this current move, sorry if it's confusing. See Sasha (disambiguation) for help).
That then leads me on to think... Sasha (Jamaican deejay) is also a singer, so if we were to be consistent, shouldn't we title her article Sasha (Jamaican singer) too? But WP:SINGERDAB says to use (singer) if they are known exclusively for singing, which may not be the case. So, following SINGERDAB, Sasha (Jamaican musician) may be more appropriate. SINGERDAB also states to only use one of the provided disambiguation tags, of which (deejay) is not one of them, so should not be used. It states to use (DJ) if the subject is known for DJing, which as mentioned before, it not the case here so should not be left an option. But I am undecided on the ideal title for (Jamaican deejay), so suggestions would be appreciated.
This brings me back to Sasha (Welsh DJ). I think that, ideally, this article should be titled Sasha (DJ), which currently redirects here. If (Jamaican deejay) is moved to a better title, readers should not confuse her with (Welsh DJ). However, either way, I think that (Welsh DJ) is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of Sasha (DJ). He is the first result for "Sasha DJ" on google with nobody else showing up for multiple pages. His article is also the longest here, not to mention that this is a featured article. He is also the only real DJ out of all of them, anyway. So I have made my earlier points regarding nationality, but this is the title I believe to be ideal for this article. However it may depend on other articles being moved and I would like to keep it open to ideas.
Of course, the disambiguation of his discography article should be changed depending on what the final decided title of (Welsh DJ) will be.
I hope that we reach a good consensus on this, Thank you. Lazz_R 23:35, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
- Leave Welsh DJ where he is - but on the Jamaican deejay, not sure about this, since although she's a singer now, she was a singer-deejay when she had hits. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:48, 6 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support all - Both DJ and deejay may be different in meaning but the purpose is to not confuse readers, thus these two terms should be considered the same since they are often used interchangeably in popular culture. Sasha (Jamaican deejay) should be moved to Sasha (Jamaican musician) (because per the naming convention for music, "musician" is used as a catch-all for someone who has multiple roles such as singer, DJ, producer, etc), with the former title becoming a redirect to the new title (this is to be consistent so that only "DJ" is used in titles per WP:MUSICDAB). I concur that nationality-wise, Sasha is British since Wales is a part of the United Kingdom and Welsh may not be recognized in the WP:MoS, thus British as a disambiguator sounds better. This person seems to be the primary topic for DJs who are named Sasha since the page view ratio for Welsh-Jamaican is about 15:1 and the Welsh has a higher significance in the music industry than the Jamaican (won numerous awards and a Grammy nomination). Support moving Sasha (Welsh DJ) to Sasha (DJ) (with a hatnote about the Jamaican).
- Move:
- The German pop singer's discography should be disambiguated as well. The editor whose username is Z0 07:34, 6 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support. Agreed, thanks for the input. Sasha (Jamaican musician) would be an ideal title as it would encompass singing and deejaying, which satisfies the point made by @In ictu oculi:; that they were known for deejaying/singing but they are a singer now - "musician" would include all of this, and allow for Sasha (DJ) to exist without confusing readers. But yes, the hatnote would still be necessary. Lazz_R 10:44, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

- Comment Currently there are 520 articles in Category:Club DJs Sasha (Welsh DJ) is the only one mentioning nationality, there are 207 pages in Category:British DJs none of the DJs have (British DJ) after their name. There are 217 pages in Category:English DJs none say (English DJ), there are 21 DJs in Category:Scottish DJs none say (Scottish DJ) either. There are 3 DJs in Category:Welsh DJs none mention (Welsh) after their name and the same for Scottish and Northern Irish DJs. The Article should be named: Sasha (DJ) Intro: Sasha is a Welsh DJ is sufficient. There is no nationality category for Jamaican DJs Sasha (Jamaican deejay) just Jamaican reggae musicians with 337 pages in it and his article is the only one with his nationality mentioned, in the same category Nicodemus (musician) only mentions his nationality in the intro.--Navops47 (talk) 14:13, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
- Comment The discussion at Talk:Sascha Schmitz has concluded. The result was:
- It would make sense to keep the Sasha's consistent, and Sasha (Jamaican deejay) → Sasha (Jamaican musician) would make sense. I think Sasha (Welsh DJ) could stay as it is without causing any confusion, but if Wales is not a nationality then moving is an option. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 11:07, 13 July 2018 (UTC)
- I don't see why we need the nationality for Welsh DJ. He is the first google search result for Sasha, but obviously is not the primary topic for "Sasha" due to how many entries and other performers there are, but certainly is the primary topic for "Sasha (DJ)". He is the only DJ with the name Sasha, and the most significant out of the musicians (Grammy nominated/other awards won, page views ratio). Point is, he is the DJ, not the Welsh DJ. "Sasha (DJ)" has always redirected to the article (except for when it was the title) with the hatnote serving well for the apparent confused users, who would not be using the term "DJ" to search for the Jamaican singer/musician/deejay anyway. The nationality would lead people to assume that there are multiple DJs called Sasha, which is untrue. But there are multiple singers and musicians named Sasha, so the nationality is needed for them. So I think the redirect should be swapped with the article title. The nationality may be WP:CONSISTENT, but it is simply not needed. Lazz_R 16:18, 13 July 2018 (UTC)
- I don't feel strongly that either is much better. The Jamaican is also a DJ (or at least is a 'deejay' which appear to be the same thing), so there are two DJ's called Sasha with articles. But the Welsh/British one is the primary topic regardless making the point moot (but a hatnote as there is now). If there is any confusion over whether 'Welsh' is suitable disambiguator, then it's not a suitable disambiguator because the the title should be both concise and recogniseable. It does not look like Sasha (Welsh DJ) is necessarily either of these. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 18:31, 13 July 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, I see your points. I will only comment that (as I said previously) a Jamaican deejay is not the same as a disc jockey - a deejay is a reggae or dancehall musician who sings on a track (the artcle even has a hatnote saying Not to be confused with disc jockey). Lazz_R 23:30, 13 July 2018 (UTC)

So I think the redirect should be swapped with the article title. The nationality may be WP:CONSISTENT, but it is simply not needed. Lazz_R 16:18, 13 July 2018 (UTC)

Requested move 26 July 2018
- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: consensus to move the page at this time, per the discussion below. It is true that there is no primary topic for a disambiguator under WP:INCDAB, but the proposed title does not conflict with any other article titles. Also moving the discography page for this artist. Dekimasuよ! 21:46, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
Sasha (Welsh DJ) → Sasha (DJ) – Sasha is the only legit DJ with a Misplaced Pages article and clearly the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. The editor whose username is Z0 10:48, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- The discography page should also be moved accordingly. The editor whose username is Z0 10:49, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- Nom, I'm sorry but by "only legit" what are you implying about the Jamaican DJ? In ictu oculi (talk) 09:00, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
- @In ictu oculi: A Jamaican deejay sings to reggae or dancehall music, they do not play other people's music. This has a completely different meaning to the typical interpretation of "DJ", which was (a reason) why we decided to move her article to Sasha (Jamaican musician). This leaves Sasha (Welsh DJ) to be the only actual DJ, and the disambiguation of "musician" on the other article removes confusion for readers. However, if for some reason anyone is looking for the Jamaican musician by searching "Sasha DJ", the hatnote will remain there – and good luck for them, because she does not come up at all for the twenty pages of Google search results, it does not allow me to search further. Even the German singer managed to come up once... Lazz_R 17:48, 28 July 2018 (UTC)

- Support as generally argued in the RM above the 'Welsh' part of the disambiguator is not desirable as it is unclear if 'Welsh' represents a nationality or not. The only other 'DJ' is the Jamaican musician, who is a Deejay, thus not the same thing. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 11:08, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose, if she was the primary topic then she would be at Sasha. You can't be the primary topic of a disambiguator. A deejay is also called a DJ, so "Sasha (DJ)" is not precise enough. —Xezbeth (talk) 12:07, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- She? © Tbhotch (en-2.5). 13:47, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- In the United States the name is almost exclusively used for girls. An unconscious mistake perhaps? — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 17:41, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- In this instance, he would be the primary topic of this disambiguator. As I stated at some point in the last request, he is the first Google search result for Sasha (though I am dubious as encrypted.google.com no longer works, and my history may affect this), his page views statistics are largely higher than other articles named Sasha and he is arguably the most important, having won (and received nominatons for) significant awards. However, he is simply not qualified to be the primary topic of Sasha due to how many entries there are of this name, and the fact that it is also a given name. So per nom, this artist is the primary topic of the title "Sasha (DJ)" (which on a side note, already redirects here) and should be titled it. Lazz_R 00:30, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
- There's no such thing. The title of this article is Sasha, (DJ) is for navigation purposes as it is not the primary topic. (DJ) is not part of the title; you can't be the primary topic of it. —Xezbeth (talk) 05:21, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
- Okay, yes. Well, regardless of this, the subject earns the title of "Sasha (DJ)" for reasons myself and others have stated in this RM and the last one. Lazz_R 17:48, 28 July 2018 (UTC)

- Strong support per my points made in the last request, and per nom. He is the only DJ named Sasha and undoubtedly qualifies for the primary topic of this title. The disambiguation currently used is also dubious, as previously discussed. Sasha (DJ) is the ideal title of this article. Lazz_R 00:20, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
- This simply isn't correct. @Lazz R: in what way was the Jamaican DJ not a DJ? In ictu oculi (talk) 08:58, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
- I have said this so many times already. A Jamaican deejay is NOT a DJ (disc jockey) the hatnote at the top of the article (deejay (Jamaican)) says they should not be confused. They sing, not play other people's music. Lazz_R 10:24, 28 July 2018 (UTC)

- Oppose For the Jamaican former deejay, see Sasha (Jamaican musician) In ictu oculi (talk) 07:31, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
- See above points made opposing this, especially in the previous RM. Please read through the previous request before making comments. Lazz_R 10:24, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support The hatnote will lead people looking for the Jamaican deejay right. Kawayama (talk) 15:43, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, exactly. This should not even be needed because the Jamaican musician does not come up even once upon searching "Sasha DJ". All results return information related to the Welsh DJ. However, should any confused readers look up "Sasha (DJ)" on Misplaced Pages specifically for some reason, we will have the hatnote there. Lazz_R 21:06, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
- Comment: The Jamaican musician no longer performs as Sasha, she is now named Sista Sasha: . Interpret this as you will. Lazz_R 21:06, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support. Primary topic for the suggested name, as shown by google searches and page views. Celia Homeford (talk) 12:46, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
