Miss Universe 2018 will be the 67th edition of the Miss Universe pageant. The event will be held on December 17, 2018, in Bangkok, Thailand. Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa will crown her successor at the end of the event.

Background

The Miss Universe Organizaton (MUO) was in talks to host the Miss Universe 2018 competition in China. Negotiations collapsed after Chinese refuses to broadcast the pageant live, due to large time difference between China and United States. Afterwards, the MUO opened negotiations with Philippines, after they had previously hosted 2016.

In April 2018, then-Secretary of Tourism Wanda Tulfo Teo spoke with President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte regarding the possibility of hosting the pageant in Boracay in November 2018, which by then will be newly rehabilitated after being closed to tourists for six months. On 6 May, Tulfo-Teo announced that the Philippines had a "90% chance" of hosting the pageant and also disclosed that the tourism department would be looking for sponsors, since the LCS Holdings Inc. of Chavit Singson, the major sponsor of the Miss Universe 2016 had declined financing the 2018 pageant. On 18 May 2018, Tulfo's successor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat announced that the country dropped the hosting bid due to budget constraints and other concerns. Romulo-Puyat also pointed out that the Philippines had hosted the pageant recently, and had no reason to do so again so soon.

On July 31, 2018, it was announced during a live press conference by Paula Shugart, the president of the Miss Universe Organization, that the 2018 pageant will be held in Bangkok, Thailand on December 17. The city has hosted the Miss Universe pageant twice, in 1992 and 2005.

ARGENTINA – Agustina Pivowarchuk was appointed as "Miss Universe Argentina 2018" after a closed door casting call took place. by Endemol Argentina and TNT Latin America, national franchise holder in Argentina.
BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS – A'yana was appointed to represent the British Virgin Islands at Miss Universe 2018 pageant, by Alessia Hamm, the franchise holder of Miss Universe in the BVI after the upcoming pageant canceled due to lack financial support. A'yana placed as the 2nd Runner-up at the Miss British Virgin Islands 2017.
CHINA – Qin was appointed to represent China at Miss Universe 2018 pageant, by Yue-Sai Kan the President of Miss Universe China pageant after the 2017 winner, Qiu Qiang has been dethroned from her title along with the 1st Runner-up. Qin crowned the 2nd Runner-up at the Miss Universe China 2017 pageant.
DENMARK – Helena Heuser was appointed as "Miss Universe Denmark 2018" after Lisa Lents acquired the Miss Universe franchise in Denmark. Helena was Miss World Denmark 2016 and competed at Miss World 2016..
KYRGYZSTAN – Some sources differ as to whether Karybekova was the winner of a pageant or simply appointed to the role.
LAOS – On-anong Homsombath was appointed to represent Laos at Miss Universe 2018 pageant, by Hongkham Souvannavong (TV Lao HD) the President of Miss Universe Laos pageant after the 2018 edition of the pageant winner will have one year preparation to upcoming Miss Universe 2019. Homsombath crowned the 1st runner-up at the Miss Universe Laos 2017 pageant.
TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Martrecia Alleyne was appointed to represent the Trinidad & Tobago at Miss Universe 2018 pageant, by Jenny Douglas the President of Miss Universe Trinidad & Tobago pageant after the 2018 edition of the pageant was not held due to undisclosed reason. Alleyne crowned the 1st runner-up at the Miss Universe Trinidad & Tobago 2017 pageant.
URUGUAY – Sofia Marrero was appointed to represent Uruguay at Miss Universe 2018 pageant after a casting call took place, organized by "Escuela de Modelos y Actitud - EMA Models", the franchise holders for Miss Universe in Uruguay.

Withdrawals

Guyana – Guyana will not be allowed to participate in this year’s Miss Universe pageant, according to the most recent franchise holder Jyoti Hardat, who says the country is being barred because of the “nasty emails” and “death threats” sent to the Miss Universe Organisation in the ensuing controversy over last year’s delegate.

Slovenia – Due to internal problem, there will be no Miss Universe Slovenia 2018 competition.
