Child's Play is an upcoming horror film written by Tyler Burton Smith and directed by Lars Klevberg. It is a reboot of the 1988 film of the same name and is based on the characters in the original Child's Play franchise. It stars Brian Tyree Henry, Aubrey Plaza, and Gabriel Bateman.

Development

In July 2018 development for a remake of Child's Play, with events set in the modern-day, was announced. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer will develop the adaptation without the involvement of franchise creator Don Mancini, nor Charles Lee Ray / Chucky actor Brad Dourif. Lars Klevberg and Tyler Burton Smith signed on as director and screenwriter, respectively. Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg serve as producers. The production team have a history of supernatural horror film productions with Klevberg directing Nextflix Original Film, Polaroid; Smith writing video game Quantum Break; and Grahame-Smith and Katzenberg jointly producing the Stephen King novel adaptation with It: Chapter One and It: Chapter Two. The plot was reported to feature a group of kids, similar to Stranger Things, and a modern-day hi-tech version of the Good Guy Doll.

Casting

In September 2018, Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry and Gabriel Bateman were cast in the film as Karen Barclay, Detective Mike, and Andy Barclay, respectively.

Filming

Principal photography on the film began on September 20, 2018 in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada.
