A page you started (William Read (oculist)) has been reviewed!

Thanks for creating William Read (oculist), Skeptic from Britain!

Misplaced Pages editor Edaham just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

While I can't help but smirk at the blunt description in the lead of the article, I think it should probably be changed for the sake of clarity. It would be more helpful to say why he was a quack and charlatan . Bear in mind that some people who only read the lead section need to be fully availed of the salient facts and that simply referring to him as a quack does little to enlighten the reader as to the nature of his malpractice. Disambiguation link notification for April 21

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited William Frederick Koch, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Quack (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Categories

Hi, many thanks for your categorisation efforts. However, there's no need to add any article to a parent category like non-Darwinian evolution as well as to a child category like Lamarckism, as these things are generally inherited. In fact, it's undesirable for an article to be in both. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 07:38, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, didn't see this. The article needs a complete rewrite, but I agree that it's a worthy topic. Unfortunately the term is rare; it's effectively a synonym for one of the senses of 'Theistic evolution', i.e. a mess.
On a different topic, in the article on Orthogenesis I've named and cited a long list of people in the table who promulgated versions of the theory. You might wish to pop them into your Orthogenesis category. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:11, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for June 30

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Guy Coburn Robson, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mark Ridley (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver).

Take part in a survey

Hi Skeptic from Britain

We're working to measure the value of Misplaced Pages in economic terms. We want to ask you some questions about how you value being able to edit Misplaced Pages.

Our survey should take about 10-15 minutes of your time. We hope that you will enjoy it and find the questions interesting. All answers will be kept strictly confidential and will be anonymized before the aggregate results are published. Regretfully, we can only accept responses from people who live in the US due to restrictions in our grant-based funding.

As a reward for your participation, we will randomly pick 1 out of every 5 participants and give them $25 worth of goods of their choice from the Misplaced Pages store (e.g. Misplaced Pages themed t-shirts). Note that we can only reward you if you are based in the US.

Click here to access the survey: http://ucla.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bI9nxWdVDoNZZKR

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Skeptic from Britain. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Using article talk pages

Information icon Welcome to Misplaced Pages and thank you for your contributions. I am glad to see that you are discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, talk pages such as Talk:Nina Teicholz are for discussion related to improving the article in specific ways based on reliable sources and the project policies and guidelines, not for general discussion about the topic or unrelated topics, or statements based on your thoughts or feelings. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. Thank you. Notice of discretionary sanctions

Working on articles about living people who advocate pseudoscience or alternative medicine is a bit tricky. Please be careful.

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have recently shown interest in living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect: any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Misplaced Pages's policies, or any page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.
