G.ho.st

the Global Hosted Operating SysTem is a Virtual Computer (VC). The user accesses the virtual computer from any browser by entering the URL http://G.ho.st or simply G.ho.st. The user registers the first time and subsequently gains access by entering a username and password. The G.ho.st virtual computer presents itself, within the browser, similarly to the Windows desktop – a start menu, task bar, background picture, and windows in which are running the hosted applications and services. Within the Windows the user might be running word processors, spreadsheets, e-mail, shopping, games, Internet banking etc. – a full range of software and services which matches and eventually exceeds the range available on Windows. All of this, of course, without actually having to install and administer any software. In many ways the G.ho.st VC feels like Windows but there are some major advantages: • The G.ho.st VC is always running – you don’t need to boot it up – you can leave it and come back to it anywhere, anytime and it will be in the same state • The G.ho.st VC is equally accessible from any browser in the world, not tied to a PC • The G.ho.st VC is tightly integrated with the Internet – for example it’s easy to have streaming information on your desktop and online multi-user collaboration • You don’t need to install or update software – you just find hosted software and services and subscribe to them instantly. • The G.ho.st service and many of the third party hosted software and services are free of charge.
