Mendez spares Leon at first because he is infected with the parasite and Saddler has instructed him to keep him alive. When he decides that Leon is too much of a risk to leave alone, he traps him in an old barn and tries to kill him by transforming into a centipede-like monster with razor sharp claws. His body does not die even when his legs are removed. However, Leon eventually emerged the victor from the battle and takes the false eye from the corpse of the deceased Mendez, which he then uses to get past the retinal scanner on the gate to Salazar's castle. Mendez possess super human strength and can bend metal with ease, and shrug off blows and bullets with ease. He is also seen to be unnaturally stealthy, despite his size. |
