Frank, we did post a RFC over a month ago. I asked Edgarde if he would sign for inviting a mediator, and he said to have the mediator contact him first. I've never used a mediator before. Don't you need to have all editors involved sign the request for mediation before the mediator takes part. Could you contact Edgarde and ask him to sign the request for mediation. What should I do?
Hi Fred. Its been 2 weeks since you first contacted me as an advocate. I need some help on the Sex Tourism page please. Please review the last 2 weeks of the discussion. We had resolved the dispute, but Edgarde just deleted half the links and replace the link to Sly Traveler, which I contributed to the page, with the link to World Sex Archives, which is already on the prostitution page.

Do you think it is time to take this to attrobution. I feel Edgarde is being unproductive. Speciifically he put at flag over the links, and other editors expressed value for the links, then he went and deleted them all and replaces the one I wanted with his own choice. I can't reason with him, and this has taken over a month to try to work out without much progress. I have compromised almost completely and he hasn't at all.

Please take a look at the sex tourism page, and discussion, and tell me what you think. Please take a look at the sex tourism page, and discussion, and tell me what you think.

Advocacy regarding sex tourism

Fred, thanks for being my advocate. You made some good points when you contacted me. I may need to take some alternatives. But the situation is improving slowly. It’s less confrontational now at least. I'll get back to you if I need any more help. Thanks again.

Sweden project

Fred, sorry to start a new thread, I can't find the old discussion. Wow, you worked hard. It looks great and almost 1/4 done. So, we continue to add under the headings or start working to improve the articles on the list, right? I wanted to ask, since you have been involved on the Wikimedia side, could you put up some links to the picture archives there so that people know where to look for images please? We could most likely also use handy links to copyright issues for Swedish art and other types of images. I have some stuff from antique books and archives that I scanned this summer while traveling. I'll upload the images this weekend and link them to my sandbox, for now. And links to official translations of gov. terms, literature lists, etc, need to go up too, right? Or is that compiled elsewhere? Best wishes, Pia 21:54, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

OK, I found the Resources section on the "Board" page right after posting this, so I realize that it's already linked up with the project page. Just need to figure out how the Category Sweden portal is relating to the project page now. Getting there. :) Pia 02:54, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Swedish cities

This is to inform you that the project listed above is currently being considered for deletion. The project's creator and only listed member, User:Mic, has a note on his talk page saying he is absent and to contact you, so I am doing so. You should also note Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Swedish counties is being considered for deletion as well, under virtually identical circumstances. Please feel free to take part in the discussion of the project. Thank you. Badbilltucker 17:52, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Yea, that's right, I wrote that note on Mic's talkpage. I'll look into it.
Fred-Chess 19:16, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
In response to your comment, I am currently going through the entire list of projects for inclusion in the eventual final version of the Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Council/Directory. The projects I nominated, which are both inactive and have only the founding editor listed as a member, qualify under both of the informal criteria which have been used. This is not to say that anyone would oppose continuation of the project's efforts. The project could clearly be restarted by a currently active editor, or it could become a work group or task force of a large project dealing with the nation as a whole. It is simply saying that the projects as they exist have received no particular attention or activity. Thank you for your speedy response, and I hope this makes my actions in proposing the deletions a little clearer. Badbilltucker 20:54, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Earlier mentioned "Swedish ..." projects up for deletion

It has been suggested on the MfD page that these projects might be moved and made a part of the Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Sweden. Certainly, if you wanted to just integrate in the data, or even create task forces/work groups to deal with these subnational entities specifically, I think just about everyone would agree with the merge. It looks like your the primary force behind the Sweden project, though, so it's really your call to make. I think most of us would agree with whatever you decide. Third opinion

Hello, Fred. I don't know many other Swedes around, therefore I decided to seek your opinion. Please check this new Gdanzig. The guy who identifies himself as "Finnish nationalist" on his user page routinely replaces Swedish place names in medieval contexts with the Finnish ones. As I understand, he does not like the fact that the castle was built by Swedes. I assume the intense finnization of the article violates WP:NC. He was blocked for 31 hours in consequence of his egregious incivility but now is back to it. Could you advise what should be done in this situation? --Ghirla 12:50, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

I asked user:Tupsharru to look into it. He knows more than I do about old Swedish/Finnish history. / Fred-Chess 08:39, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
I guess this guy will eventually cause his own banning in some way. By that time he may have driven away a couple of actually good and potentially productive users, frustrated by the fact that Misplaced Pages can't keep rabid nationalists in check. Then he will come back with another username, and the whole thing will start again... Tupsharru 21:53, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Blocked

I have blocked both you and Jaakko Sivonen for 24 hours for move warring. See Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard#Jaakko Sivonen (talk · contribs). --bainer (talk) 00:44, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Okay... I hope you know what you're doing... / Fred-Chess 07:54, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
While waiting for the block to expire or someone to unblock me, I might as well spent a few minutes composing a reply to the WP:AN, as I can't do any other editing anyways :-P
Dear Sirs of Misplaced Pages
I accnowledge that my procedure was incorrect. In case you question my motivation, I thought a block was uncontroversial since I was a neutral part who had only come to the article on the request of Ghirlandajo three days ago, and that I acted on behalf of four other prominent editors (as seen on Talk:Treaty of Fredrikshamn).
Again, I realize that my involvement in this dispute appeared greater than I considered it to be myself, that the block was not uncontroversial, and that I therefore should have posted a request for a neutral review at the WP:AN first.
Fred-Chess 09:41, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
Note that I only commented on your use of administrative tools, that didn't form the basis for the block. I blocked you and Jaakko each for 24 hours because of the move warring on the page, Jaakko repeatedly moving despite opposition to his initial move and you reverting and labeling the edits as vandalism – when the dispute was quite plainly a content dispute – rather than attracting the attention of a neutral admin to move-protect the page. As is typical when dealing with edit or move warring, I treated both participants equally and blocked both of you.
I'm more than happy to unblock you if you understand why I blocked you in the first place. --bainer (talk) 13:01, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
My first action on that page was actually to move protect it, acting as a neutral admin on the request of Ghirlandajo. This move protection was then removed by the admin user:JIP, on request of Jaakko. I warned Jaakko that page moves should have consensus support, and that continuously acting against the community is labelled vandalism. Jaakko still commenced to move the page. As I said, I thought it was uncontroversial to block him at that point. I was apparently wrong, and I have said that.
I would also like to reply to the latest post on the administrators noticeboard that claims that blocks may be punitive. WP:BP says: Blocks are used to prevent damage or disruption to Misplaced Pages. They should not be used as a punitive measure. (second sentence). I just say this as an informative reply.
I assume you blocked me because intervention against problematic users shouldn't be done uniliterally (on the English Misplaced Pages).
Fred-Chess 13:53, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
The problem is that you reverted the move after move-protecting the page. As Reinoutr said on WP:AN, you picked up where Petri Krohn left off. You then reverted the page again after JIP unprotected it, and probably would have continued to do so had you not blocked Jaakko. After unblocking Jaakko I blocked you both as a preventative measure, to prevent further move warring.
There's nothing wrong with intervening where a dispute is disruptive, but it's a very bad idea to jump into the dispute yourself. It was because you were move-warring that I blocked you and Jaakko both, not any other reason. --bainer (talk) 14:41, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Zebra.jpg

Thanks for bringing my attention to Zebra.jpg. I cannot verify the source because I wasn't the original uploader--it appears to have been uploaded to an earlier version of the software. I must have done a conversion job on it, and my upload is the first one retained after we switched to my code. At any rate, the other photos on the Zebra page are much better, so I see no reason not to simply remove all references to this one and remove it. --LDC 22:35, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Image:Som Wardner.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Som Wardner.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Misplaced Pages articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok 17:43, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Advocacy

Hi Fred, It is really nice of you to advocate for Swadhyayee. He has had some good ideas but has not always been to express them well. One thought: Be careful not to advocate things that would violate Misplaced Pages's policies, even if Swadhyayee's position is that he would like to do so. He frequently seeks to make edits that are uncited and, at least in the view of some, POV and one-sided. You can help him articulate his position, but I don't think you can go so far as to help him argue that we should ignore Misplaced Pages policies, which he has done on several occasions (for example, he has advocated the use of original research as being more reliable than citations, he has argued that non-Indian editors should be screened out of participation, he has argued that only Hindus with a background in Hinduism should be allowed to contribute to the Hinduism article, and has argued that POV edits are justified when they help to give the world a positive impression of Hinduism).

I do not say any of the above things for the purpose of incriminating him, only to remind you that there are some things he advocates which you should not, in your capacity as an advocate, support him in arguing. Thanks again for helping him to articulate his problems in a civil and understandable way. HeBhagawan 11:54, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Fred, Thanks for taking a responsible approach to advocacy. Just to be clear: you didn't do anything improper. I merely wanted to suggest that you not do anything improper in the future. After reading your comments on my talk page, I realize that there was no need to warn you, since you have already thought it through. Unfortunately, I don't have an email address that I am willing to share with people I don't know. I get too much spam as it is, so I avoid sharing it. So, for better or for worse, we will have to have any discussions on Misplaced Pages. It shouldn't be a problem to do so because I am not willing to get involved in any private disputes with anybody. Misplaced Pages is public, and I'm ultimately only interested in making good articles. This means discussing content, not people. And there is nothing so delicate about content that it can't be discussed in a public forum. So long as we don't personalize our conversations, I think they can be discussed openly. Thanks! HeBhagawan 12:55, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi Fred, I agree to what you suggested as a general matter. However, I reserve the right to post Misplaced Pages policies on the talk page of anybody whose violations 1) make my job as an editor more difficult, or 2) detrimentally affect an article. I agree not to post Misplaced Pages policies on his talk pages as long as he does not commit any violations that fall into one of these categories. HeBhagawan 14:12, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Using a picture of a CD cover on a Misplaced Pages article (Ilaiyaraja)

Dear Fred, With regard to your comment on how to improve the article Ilaiyaraaja, you mentioned that I could include a photograph of a CD cover of the musician's in the article. I looked it up on Misplaced Pages Common's licensing page to see if this is allowed. From the checklist provided, it appears that I can do that. Just want to confirm this with you before I upload a photo of a CD cover whether to your opinion it is OK to do so. Cheers! AppleJuggler 05:04, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
