Armenian oblast (1828-1840 AD) The Russians took over the greater part of Eastern Armenia, they created an entity called the Armenia Oblast (Province), which had only lasted only from 1828 to 1840. As a result, a large number of Armenians moved back from Persia to Armenia and approximately 35 000 Muslims – Azeris, Kurds and Lezgins, and various nomadic tribes left the area.
