Deletion of Percy Norton
No offence, maybe you should check Notability article yourself. It clearly states 'Failing to satisfy the notability guidelines is not a criterion for speedy deletion.', so you should of consulted me before deletion or started an adf not just delete it without any note. He has won many awards and toured the entire Australian Countryside in his epic tour in 2004, also he is played on the radio here constantly, especially by ABC's Triple J. However I understand your concern, and will take it into consideration, if I decide to create the article again, but I will probably do this far into the future as time is of the esscence. By the way, please accept my apology and correct me, if the line I quoted dosn't apply to this article situation. --Smallcucumber 12:04, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
History of Lithuania 1219-1377
Dear Renate: have begun copyediting this. Hope to finish by tonight. I already have one question: the first paragraph states that "the empire reached ALMOST to the Black Sea", but the map definitely shows the Black Sea within the territory. Including Kiev.
Novickas 13:14, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
- Is there any chance of getting a map that shows territory in 1377? If not, the opening paragraph could be reworded.. something like "the groundwork was laid for an empire that would by 1400 reach to the Black Sea". Then the picture caption could be a little reworded and it would still be appropriate for the piece. I like the piece, by the way. Always had trouble with that part of the history and it's now making more sense.
- Taking a break now; edited all but the last 3 paragraphs, cause they seemed not quite ready. After a break maybe more questions will occur, fresh eyes and all that. Hope you're not in a terrible hurry. Talk later - Novickas 17:33, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, some more questions. What are long coins? Were they really not round? Re "attacked Courland, as the order had limited battlefield successes"...is that the Teutonic Knights? In general.. I think it would be better if the orders were always named. Novickas 20:08, 17 September 2006 (UTC) PS a timeline would be really nice - you know, a table of dates and their corresponding events.
- more questions: Line that begins "In 1248, Mindaugas sent his nephews Tautvilas and Edivydas, the sons of Dausprungas and Vykintas," .. if Edivydas was Mindaugas' nephew, then Vykintas was Mindaugas' brother or brother-in-law?
- Line that begins "in 1212, Daugirutis' treaty with Navahradak" needs some clarification as to who Daugirutis was - a duke of Samogitia?
- Needs a little more explananation about "bribing Andreas von Stierland" - the text in the footnote "jei bus nužudytas Tautvila" could be translated something like "bribed..to arrange Tautvila's murder". Shocking allegation.
- Line with "attacked Courland, as the order had limited battlefield successes" would that be "The Brethren of the Sword"? that is what the Courland link suggests.
- Line with "expressed the wish to marry Daumantas' wife" - Daumantas has not been mentioned before; could we say "Duke Daumantas" or "the wife of Daumantas, the Duke of x".
- the long coins picture is really cool, any chance it could be included? Novickas 12:47, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks
Aciu for the award. I promise that I intend to continue to expanding articles in the future and I wouldn’t be derailed from this patch very easily. Thanks again M.K. 09:17, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Cool down
Dear Renata. I sincerly hope your message on conflict resolution and deletion of your user page don't mean you are quiting this project. The informal mediation which I tried was just the begining of a proper WP:DR. I have seen tougher issues dealth with, and although I may not see 100% eye to eye with it, please, don't leave us. We need editors like you to stay and be the voice of sanity to the rest of us.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 04:24, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Huh?
September 12/18 are truly said days for Misplaced Pages. :-( Take a break, and recall the advice you once gave me: breathe and relax, and above all, remember your special training ;-) I hope you do come back. (Sorry for not noticing earlier.) Lupo 08:16, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Just noticed that Renata's edits do not appear on my watchlist anymore:( That sounds like a big loss to all of Misplaced Pages. I hope you'll rethink your position after some time, although cannot say, that I didn't have similar thoughts about leaving more than once.--Lokyz 12:35, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm sad too. You welcomed me to Misplaced Pages! (And I just assumed then that you were an admin.) I understand the feeling of "enough is enough", though. Perhaps after a break you'll come back. I'll be thinking about you. --Fang Aili 15:24, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Petition
This is truly surprise to me that Renata is leaving. If this is due to personal life, well, we all facing setbacks and gains in our personal life and actually this is a beauty of life – it keeps as strong and prepares for future challenges. Actually this is human nature and destiny, sometimes we can not avoid or change our destiny, but we can meet it with dignity, with risen head and with the clear mind – yes it is hard, but I wouldn’t give up and will go, I will go on!!!!
If it’s due to wikipedia developments, everything is possible and could be solved any problem, sooner or later. If this is a case – take a short break, but don’t leave us! You simply can’t do this!
And remember, Renata, when you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on…
By signing below editors from all the Misplaced Pages asking you, Renata, to stay:

Anti-petition
For God's sake don't be so melodramatic - petitions, sighs, obituaries. C'mon. She's an adult, she knows what she's doing. And, boy, that Airing of Grievances by Renata was great. I could only dream, that some will follow her example one day and will let the grievances out in one go, instead of dragging their egotistic traumas for ages from one Talk-page to another. If she decides to quit this S/M scene, that's great. Go girl, there is more to life than Wiki. Run like a hell and never look back. But she will be back in one form, or another - as admin, or anonymous just browsing passerby, it does not matter. See ya Renata. Encyclopaedia Editing Dude 16:18, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- This is actually true. Renata's candidness in her farewell "speech" is rarely seen in this place. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 20:28, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Dear petitioners. Please save your pleas. Renata will be back. Sometimes Wikibreaks are needed. Let her have hers. She will come back rested and determined to save Lithuanian history from the foreign nationalist revisionism :). No irony here. Who else? Cheers all! --Irpen 06:05, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Loosing Renata for this project actually does matter, but I respect any decision, she choses to make. Renata, you have done a lot of good things here, do now, what serves you best. Best regards, --Gf1961 19:44, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

A few words from you would be so welcome. Just let us know you're OK. Novickas 22:39, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi Reneta. I saw your post on the RB and figured I'd take a whack at it. I just wanted to make sure everything you said on there is up to date, as I think that post has been up there for a while. Hi Renata. The site was this , which has usually been very reliable for such information. I was concerned when Šviesa did not show up on the List of cities in lithuania page but assumed it may have been a village or hamlet.
If you know of no such place I will remove it. From the same site, you may also be able to tell me whether Klaipėdoje should be Klaipėda, if it is a seperate settlement, or even annother error. Thanks Caledonian Place 01:16, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Static?
I think that this is nor true. In the last century the 90% of the years have had changes. And in the past there was lots and lots of more changes. There is no other side in Misplaced Pages able to have a map for each year as has been requested. The political geography is changing each year. Excuse my English level. I see absolutly impossible to put in a single page all the changes of all the hundreds and hundreds of German, Greek, Italian or Arabic sovereign states. Sobirà 18:31, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
If there are statics years, redirections exists. It's absolutly impossible to have an idea of what exactly exists in a year with only a list of what appear and disappear. Sobirà 18:41, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Just a chat
Labas - as you see, I haven't really let go! I was involved in editing Giedrus Subacius' book about The Jungle. The section about the Title Metaphor - needs some work, but I think it's worth keeping.
Hope you don't mind if I chat a little here. While thinking over the issues involved in being a Wikipedian, some incidents came to mind. At the scientific institution where I work we have, at times over the years, hired Eastern European, Central European, and Russian analysts - they brought diverse viewpoints; they had publications to their credit; their English was pretty good. Then, during meetings, they would disagree with their co-workers by saying: "No. This is not how it works. Not at all. We need to do it this way." Awkward silence.
Fast-forward ten years. Now the same people present their viewpoints at meetings in this way: "There are, embedded within this analysis, a number of assumptions about economic growth in x, y and z sectors; there are also assumptions regarding the useful life of hydroelectric powerplants; how difficult would it be to incorporate these assumptions into a series of variables?" Thoughtful expressions; nods; scribbling on notepads.
That's a big difference. It's evolution. Now we can have a discussion. Flora Lewis wrote a book ("Europe") in the 1980s about the European intellectual style - it was, and clearly still is, extremely confrontational. Opinions must be presented very strongly; to do otherwise would imply weakness.
Misplaced Pages is clearly another manifestation of this kind of evolution. And Misplaced Pages-addiction is the same addiction as a parent has to his or her child: faith in its future. Let's fast-forward ten years from now: you'll be one of those rare people, like Adamkus, who has both feet solidly planted on either side of the Atlantic. You have a bright future. Consult any gypsy you meet in Manhattan for verification and see if they don't agree!Novickas 18:24, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- So you are another casualty of the PL-LT wars, so many years later! One of the problems his talkwith it (here in the US) is that most Americans, when you try to explain it to them, scratch their heads trying to think of an analogous situation they can relate to. They're, like, "Polish, Lithuanian, what's the difference? What's the problem?" Of course we have our own serious divisions but they don't really map the same way. Hey, carry on anyway, it's a worthy cause, and a lot of Wikipedians think a lot of you. Novickas 15:06, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Question
Renata, what is going on when you are editing a page in Misplaced Pages, and cannot save or even preview it - an arrow with north and south points appears? Once or twice I've had "editing conflict" messages appear but not in this case...
Also, for your amusement, a bulletin from the University of Chicago - they are playing a game in the lounges every day that goes like this: someone shouts out one word, say "marshmallow", and someone shouts out another one, say "Milton Friedman" - then you must go from one site to the other in as short a time as possible using only Misplaced Pages links (people are sitting in there with their laptops) Glory is the only reward. When someone shouts they got there, people gather around and watch the sequence of links. Well, maybe you already knew about this, but I didn't. Cool huh? Sincerely, Novickas 21:57, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

New article
Renata, when you get a chance, could you look at National symbols of lithuania ? It's new and under construction - was hoping you could tell me if I'm missing anything of importance, and if you have any organizational notions? Novickas 02:42, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

- Glad you like that rupintojelis - he watches over my aunt's grave (I never got to meet her) so it has special meaning for me. Don't worry, I will clean the article up soon - just wanted to bounce ideas around. I actually have some free time today :) Sorry to hear that you don't think much of Kukutis. When I was looking up national symbols there was a designation of folk heroes, also for tricksters so thought it would be good to put them in. The devil is usually the trickster (add ref to Devil Museum in Kaunas). Again, thanks for the input, and not to worry, the article doesn't link to anything yet. Will also ask Lokyz and MK for input. Have a good day Novickas 16:47, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Clock's running
1 second? No, 120,000 seconds, and still counting. Gene Nygaard 03:47, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- That last entry in Category:Villages and municipalities in Púchov District still hasn't migrated up. 1 second, you said. Gene Nygaard 04:44, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- Wow! 1.01 seconds! Mark me down as duly impressed, even if it was a little over 10,000 seconds after you logged on and found you had this talk page message waiting.
- However, even though you fixed that one, there is still Lúky, created by the same editor, out of place in the same category. And about a zillion more by the same editor in other categories. There is, fortunately, some cause to believe that he will start fixing them, though I'll have to see some results before getting my hopes up.
- Then, on top of everything else, somebody has to run around cleaning up after other careless editors who move pages without checking how they are sorted and adding the proper sort keys if necessary and add categories without adding the proper sort keys. Sometimes it isn't a real big problem because, so far at least, it doesn't end up out of place in the category listing as it stands. But in other cases, it is quite material.
- Anyway, according to my calculations, at 1.01 seconds a crack, you ought to be done cleaning up after yourself in about 8 min 52.27 s. Is that a good, ballpark figure at least? Let me know when to start the clock.
- Since you are so quick, maybe you'd then have lots of time to help out the other people who have been hiding Lithuania-related items from view as well. Gene Nygaard 02:25, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
Access to vilnius.lt
Hello, Renata - I know you're taking a Wikibreak, but when you have a chance, could you see if you can access the following link:
I haven't been able to access it (or anything on vilnius.lt) for a month or so. M.K. suggested that I try it with an updated version of Internet Explorer, but I don't want to do that since IE gives me more trouble than I think it's worth. I use Netscape and Firefox and get the same error message on both: "The connection has timed out". M.K. and others don't have a problem. Just to get a reality check on the issue. Sincerely, Novickas 21:14, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- It takes about 10 seconds to load for me (on a broadband link), which is rather long for a 258kB GIF. But it shows up fine here. Lupo 14:45, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
Cite tags
I hate to be a bother, but how does one use the citation tages to cite encyclopedias? I'm not entirely clear on this. I'm trying to work in your suggestions - some with more effect than others: I've not yet hit on a good way to remove the self-referentiality of the Women Opera Composers section without venturing dangerously into seeming POV, or understating their importance. Still, I fixed the minor problems (Explaining Peri wrote both Daphne and Euridice, moving the notes on construction to the reference section - does that seem a reasonable fix to you? - and so on.) If you can help me figure out the citation tags for the Encyclopædia articles- and I am sorry to be a bother - I'll and we others should be able to fix the rest. - My dear friend. As it has been ruled by the courts, Freedom of Speech does not extend to protection of ethnic slurs and hate speech whose propagation brought about your ban. Besides, nothing could stop you from using one of your socks. So, you were not really censored. Last but not least, you could take your grievances to your talk page which was not protected. I think Renata was too lenient. But be sure that unless you change your behavior, the next block will be permanent. --Irpen 21:07, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- Here's the one vying for head of the censorship department lately. Mind your own business a little more, Irpin. Truthseeker 85.5 21:02, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- Insinuations and wishful thinking. The almighty King Solomon of Misplaced Pages, almost. I think people have been too lenient in scrutinizing your smear campaign, giving Irpin a sense of some king of megalomania. This is not Renata's fault, but a consequence of the lack of disciplinary action in your case (long overdue), an institution you so vehemently attack, counting on the ignorant unsuspicion of a few to abuse against other users. Soon, you wont be fooling anyone any longer, Irpin, so watch it (take my good-spirited advice). Truthseeker 85.5 21:17, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- I second Irpen about a longer ban. -- Grafikm 22:40, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- Grafikm, please dont hurt your credibility by seconding insinuations and demands based on pure (ideological? ethnic?) hate. Or are you deliberately adding fuel to the fire and beating the drums? That's not what Misplaced Pages is about. Truthseeker 85.5 22:55, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
