Four years later, in her first-year of high school, Yoshioka (]) meets Tanaka again but he now goes by the name Mabuchi (]) who is now stoic, cold, and totally different from the gentle Tanaka she met in middle-school. Yoshioka is puzzled by his personality change until one day she accidently meets his older brother Yōichi Tanaka (Yu Koyanagi) who reveals that Mabuchi moved to Nagasaki with his mother after their parents' divorce. When his mother died of lung cancer last year, Mabuchi could not forgive himself. Deeply traumatised by her death, he starts to feel that he is not allowed to enjoy himself. Realising what Mabuchi has gone through, Yoshioka vows to find his smile again.
