List of most viewed YouTube videos

Hi Luke, thank you for your work on "List of most viewed YouTube videos" (as well as your work on "See You Again") - much appreciated. A word of caution though - could you avoid updating See You Again's view count on "List of most viewed YouTube videos", unless you are also going to update all the other videos in that list at the same time. I know it is a big job to update them all, and that there are other people who just update their favourite song etc, but updating all the videos keeps all the counts consistent with each other, which is really the point of the list. It is more important that the video counts are consistent with each other than that they are right up to date. There has always been a note at the top of the list to update them all simultaneously - and this used to be enforced quite strongly. I will update them all periodically (eg weekly) if no one else does it, so don't worry about that. Do you think this is fair?Tcamfield (talk) 18:39, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi Luke, it is okay if you cannot update everything (in my opinion the list was better when it was on 30 videos), but it is probably better if you also do not update the See You Again row in this case. Keep updating the main See You Again article though, much appreciated.Tcamfield (talk) 11:03, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

YouTube Links

Hey Luke, I'm the guy who been persistent on removing YouTube Links on songs about articles like See You Again. I've already raised this hot topic to Admin User:Beetstra about this on his talk page with the topic: YouTube Links. Let's discuss it over there, shall we? - 124.106.206.103 (talk) 09:45, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Hey Luke, see User_talk:Beetstra#YouTube_Links for the admin's stand. Thank you. - 124.106.206.103 (talk) 10:48, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

YouTube view counts

Hi I'm discussing rounding YouTube view counts with another user on my talk page. So See You Again would become "2.7 billion" until it hits "2.8 billion" instead of going to "2.71 billion", as we think that over the last couple of years the last decimal has become a bit pointless. Obviously would change all videos over a billion views not just See You Again. Wondering if you have any thoughts - please add to my talk page.Tcamfield (talk) 19:22, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

Rounding is always a dilemma. If I understand it right this is what you ar proposing:

(100-{view count wiki} / {actual view count} *100)

100-2.7/2.71*100=0.37%

100-2.7/2.75*100=1.82%

100-2.7/2.79*100=3.23%

As you can see the error increases slowly, and isn't significant in the beginning but surely is in the end. I propose going from 2.7 to 2.75 to 2.8, giving the following calculations:

(100-{view count wiki} / {actual view count} *100)

100-2.7/2.71*100=0.37%

100-2.7/2.74*100=1.46%

100-2.75/2.76*100=0.36%

100-2.75/2.79*100=1.43%

So the error on actual view count and wiki never exceeds 1.5%. It's just a suggestion, what do you think about it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by RBJ~nlwiki (talkcontribs) 11:39, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

Why?

I think it would be better to write 45 thousand than 455,000 or at least 45.5 thousand.Luke Kern Choi 5 (talk) 10:31, 13 May 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for your Number crunching on

Hi Luke thank you for you Number crunching on List of most viewed YouTube videos. Do you have an arithmetical or something that you use to update the numbers? Have you some sort of (Inside Info) because …… you have just stated with No ref That Adele Hello will hit 2 Billion on the 4th July. You have Updated the number before the Event !! I myself am quite sure it will as (Hello) has gained 536,786 in just 15 hours. When it is Official I do hope its Linked to the JB one released on the same day….. that JB (Promoters) pushed on Twitter/Facebook bla bla all media But that “Hello” got it’s 2 Billion from a real range of fans not just an (Official) organised army of Pluggers like Justin.B has used. §Pauseypaul (talk) 00:05, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

About the list of most viewed YouTube videos

Hi! Before we engage on an edit war regarding Daddy Yankee (which I don't want at all, specially considering that this is mostly a difference in criteria), I opened a question in the talk page of the article about how we should count featured artists. I think it would be interesting to have your opinion there. Thanks! Not A Superhero (talk) 14:35, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

Source of the List of most viewed YouTube videos

Hi Luke, thanks for your comment on my talk page. I'm new to Misplaced Pages editing and after I posted a question for you on your talk page I wasn't sure the question was appropriate for a talk page, so I decided to delete it all together. Then I kind of messed up doing that and that's how I left your talk page with the four edits. Sorry for that. Please allow me to repeat my question anyhow: I was wondering how you keep track of new entries to the top 80 of the List of most viewed YouTube videos. Or, in other words: what is an up-to-date source of the most viewed YouTube videos? I am aware of this list: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_sort=video_view_count&filters=video&search_query=site%3Ayoutube.com But it seems to miss certain videos (like "Masha and the Bear: Recipe for Disaster"). Feel free to delete the question if you do not think it is appropriate. Thanks and keep up the good work.Dataduck (talk) 16:53, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

List of Most Viewed YouTube videos - by year of release

Hi Luke, I've been trying to add a section to this part of the article about Ed Sheeran's achievement in having two videos for the same song in the top five most viewed videos of one year, but you seem to be the one deleting it (I'm not sure whether it is just you, or multiple people). Would you mind explaining why? Regards, Dramaticmusic (talk) 07:54, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

It's like the section about historical most viewed videos- even though previous most-viewed-videos no longer hold the title, it's important to recognise rare achievements. Even though Sheeran no longer holds the record, he's the only one that ever has held it at a point in time, so it's of note. Regards, --Dramaticmusic (talk) 08:18, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
I saw your edit. Thank you --Dramaticmusic (talk) 09:22, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

Hi Luke. You've undone my edit a couple of times now and I don't really see why. First of all, the channel that has two videos in the top 5 for 2007 is called icanrockyourworld, but the artist who performs the songs is Gummibar. Throughout the entire article, the uploader is referred to by their stage name, not their channel name. Secondly, I think every video should have a link so people know what the video is about. Sure, "Life Goes On" is an obscure song as it was never released as a single, but still, by clicking the link they will find out it was the ninth track from the first disc of the Tupac Shakur album All Eyez On Me, was written by Shakur, Johnny Jackson and Stacie Small, was produced by Johnny "J" and is five minutes and two seconds long. Do you now see the importance of linking "Life Goes On"? Finally, the uploader's name should have a link to the entity who actually created the video. I understand that that might not make perfect sense, for example, fhearnoiz, the uploader of "Life Goes On" is not Tupac Shakur, but this is the way it works elsewhere in the article. On the list of historical most viewed videos, "My Space: The Movie" was uploaded by eggtea, but that name is linked to Dave Lehre Productions, the actual creator of the video. The other time this happens is with "Music Is My Hot Hot Sex" which was uploaded by CLARUSBARTEL72, but that name is linked to CSS, the actual performers of the song. Please tell me what I'm missing here. 0737290632t2x273n (talk) 14:00, 24 September 2017 (UTC)

Revert of List of most viewed YouTube videos

Hi, I am trying my best to help Misplaced Pages, including list above. However, I think you are reverting my edits without a reason. I think it could be because I have put numbers that are bigger than actual. But, I am rounding numbers as it is stated. I think you don't have to revert me, talk with me instead. Thanks.Luke Kern Choi 5 (talk) 06:02, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

My edit on See You Again Comment

Hello! I saw my edit on See You Again was reverted by you. However, as I cited in my edit summary, Nothing but Trouble was only a promotional single. You can even see that is the case on the Nothing but Trouble page. So I am putting the edit back. If you don't agree, please don't revert my edit again, instead write something here and we'll sort it out nicely. Pianoguysfan (talk) 07:29, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

List of most-edited articles

Hey Luke! I work on the Wikimedia Foundation's communications team. I'm putting together a quick blog post on the most-edited articles on the English Misplaced Pages this year, and the list of most-viewed YouTube videos is in the top twenty. Would you be able to tell me what you've done with the article in the last year, and what draws you to come back to the article so often? I'd like to quote you in the post. My copy deadline is, unfortunately, as soon as you can get back to me, as I'll be out on vacation starting on Saturday. Thank you! Ed Erhart (WMF) (talk) 20:41, 21 December 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick reply! You can read the blog post here. :-) Ed Erhart (WMF) (talk) 21:24, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

New on Misplaced Pages

Hy Luke Stark 96! Even though I'm a new user here in wikipedia, I'd like to start contributing on here and improve some articles. I did a recent contribution on "List of most-viewed YouTube videos" and undid it. I've seen most of the contributions are yours, but I'd like to help you on this page as I did recently. If you'd like me te help on this, please tell me. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marc7lopez (talkcontribs) 21:05, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

Suggestion : List of most-viewed youtube videos

Since you are mostly editing this "list of most-viewed youtube videos", I have a suggestion. How about making this list videos that exceeded 1 billion views instead of 100 most viewed video. Then, it will be more reasonable to add more videos. I hope you consider my idea. Thank you very much...Luke Kern Choi 5 (talk) 10:33, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

Hello

Hi Luke would you be able to tell me when - Adele's Hello - The date the video went up from 16th place to 15th on List of most-viewed YouTube videos & as I know you keep a clever eye on this page. Not sure if you keep this information, or could you point me to a history page (Other than scrolling) the Mostly your Edits. If by chance you do keep this info, would it be possible to list for me the positions up or down from when it first came out..... if not just when it went to 15th from 16th Thank you & keep up your great work Thanks Pauseypaul (talk) 18:02, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Most liked YT videos

Regarding this edit, how are my numbers incorrect? According to the YouTube video statistics, all of these numbers I added are correct. For example, YT Rewind 2016 is currently standing at 3,513,017 likes. However, you reverted my edit and brought the article number back to only 3.49 million, which is inaccurate. The most liked video, "Criança de Rico e Criança de Pobre" by whinderssonnunes, is only at 4,498,549 likes, yet the article claims a higher number of 4.50 million. Please explain this. Cogaidh (talk) 20:48, 9 December 2018 (UTC)

@Luke Stark 96: Please respond to my inquiry. Cogaidh (talk) 04:42, 12 December 2018 (UTC)

Pewds rewind

I hope you would consider it important because it does stand out knowing that Trending brings a huge influx of viewers to a video so it's numbers could of been much higher compared to the other videos and information and context is of course is always important you can edit it how you want but i respectfully ask that you think on it and reconsider it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dil17 (talkcontribs) 10:27, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

List of most viewed YouTube videos

Hello Luke, I changed the "as of" day on the "most liked non-music videos" to the correct date just after I noticed the likes on the top video had gone up. I am just curious why you reverted my change when the wikipedia page is being updated and today is the 29th, not the 28th. Fandomroleplayer (talk) 19:34, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

Question

What's your source for the most liked video list? Jerry (talk) 17:19, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

A couple of questions. :)

Thanks for your work on constantly updating the "List of most-liked YouTube videos". I appreciate the non-music video section (it would be nice to see it expanded to 50 or 100, as it is very very interesting, and will be great for history data). Also I like the fact that the like ratios show to 2 decimals rather than 1. A couple of questions. Number 1, why does the "List of most-liked YouTube videos" only go to 40? As surly 100 would make more sense. The "List of most-disliked YouTube videos" goes to 50. And the list of "List of most-viewed YouTube videos" goes to 100. And the "List of most-viewed Vevo videos" goes to 100. Surely increasing the list (and the most-disliked list) to 100 can only be good, as it's displaying more information. Also where do you get the info of the most liked videos to know that "Ping Pong Trick Shots 3" is ranked 196th most liked video? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SuperSight (talkcontribs) 03:12, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

Most Like YouTube videos - potential Vandalism?

Hey Luke, nice name by the way, I noticed on the page 'List of most-liked YouTube videos' that the total music videos listed have shrunk down to 30 from 40 (to what it was originally). This was done by the user 'Tcamfield' on April 8th 2019, at 20:39 (I don't know if that's my time or a central time for Misplaced Pages). Why was the listing shrunk? Was this vandalism? Was this intentional? If this was intentional, why was that? I would myself change it back myself, but the page is semilocked until April 22nd 2019. I look forward to your reply, LukeSpooks (talk) 09:36, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

Apologies

Don't worry about my reversion of your edit to List of most-liked YouTube videos; I was trying to click a diff on my watchlist and it seems it decided to move downward on my computer screen, putting the rollback option for your edit in its place. I've now self-reverted my rollback. Sorry about that!--SkyGazer 512 23:25, 24 April 2019 (UTC)

@SkyGazer 512: don't worry, it's nothing serious :) bye--Luke Stark 96 (talk) 23:29, 24 April 2019 (UTC)
