	The EI welcomes members from across the energy sector and has six membership grades.
	The introductory professional grades are: Student, Associate (for those planning to get professionally qualified) and Affiliate (general interest). The professional grades are Technician member (TMEI), Member (MEI) and Fellow (FEI).

	The EI also awards a number of professional registrations. The titles Chartered Energy Manager, Chartered Energy Engineer and Chartered Petroleum Engineer are unique to the EI. Chartered Engineer (CEng); Incorporated Engineer and Engineering Technician (EngTech) are offered under License from the Engineering Council and Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) under license from the Society for the Environment, and ESOS Lead Assessors under approval from the Environment Agency. The EI’s Register of Professional Energy Consultants is its listing of experts in energy efficiency.

	Organisations can also apply for membership of the EI as Company Members, Technical Company Members or Technical Partners. EI Learning Affiliate is a group membership for learning institutions such as universities and colleges, and enables students to gain free membership of the EI while they are studying.<ref>https://www.energyinst.org/membership-and-careers/membership</ref>

The Energy Institute (EI) is a UK chartered professional membership body.

Structure

The Energy Institute is licensed by the Engineering Council to offer Chartered, Incorporated and Engineering Technician status to engineers and also by the Science Council and Society for the Environment to offer registration as Chartered Scientist and Chartered Environmentalist.
