Africa is one of the world's continents, named for the Afridi tribe, who dwelt in Northern Africa around the area of Carthage. An other theory is that the name comes from the Greek word aphrike (without cold) or the Latin word aprica (sunny). The Romans originally used Africa to denote the northern part of the continent.
