A positive LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) must be confirmed before an employer in Canada can hire a temporary foreign worker unless the foreign worker is LMIA-exempt. Before starting the hiring process of a foreign worker, it must be determined if an LMIA is needed. An LMIA confirms that there is a need for a temporary foreign worker and that no Canadians or permanent residents of Canada are available to do the job.
