Church of Ireland Protestants

There are a number of people who would argue that Anglican denominations are not Protestant. There are many others who believe that the Church of Ireland is Roman Catholic. However, I am not going to change it back. If confusion exists we can't fix it everywhere. Dabbler 13:54, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

The simple fact, that I am making, is that compounding "Church of Ireland" with "Protestant" or "Roman Catholic" does not read correct - particularily when that is not what the article is discussing. I just want to keep the article to the point. Djegan 14:01, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Belfast Photo

Why did you remove my photograph of Belfast?

Because you entered this]]] at the bottom which I assumed was vandalism or at least a misunderstanding. By all means read any legitimate image properly. Use the sandbox to test things that you are unsure of, and welcome. Djegan 17:55, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

DCU's Location

The user Gnevin believes that DCU is in Whitehall and has changed the main Dublin City University article to reflect this view, but I believe that it is in Glasnevin.

I thought you would be able to help clarify the situation since you are a former DCU student.

For further information see the talk page for the Northside (Dublin) article.

Its a good question. I have always assumed Glasnevin, but that area of Dublin is very fuzzy. Looking at correspondence from the university its address is stated as simply "Dublin City University, Dublin 9, Ireland". Indeed checking Dublin City and District Street Guide, Third Edition, Ordnance Survey Ireland the university is much nearer, if not in, Whitehall rathern than Glasnevin. A map that shows exact boundaries, if available, would be ideal. Djegan 14:36, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Removal of Link to Oireacthas Members database

  • Why have you removed this link.

Oireachtas members' database It is an official government link and much of the article's information is transcribed from it. It is a definitive source as presumably it is maintained by non-amateurs. I would be less inclined to use the word professional for anybody in the Oireactheas. Tayana 22:36, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Because its just a link to a website, a form of link spam. By all means cite specific external pages (relevent to content) but a whole website? We might as well add www.rte.ie or www.unison.ie to every Irish article. The said link would be appropriate to Oireachtas but not the article of every member, past and present, of same.
Keep links specific to the subject, not just a generic-related reference. Djegan 22:40, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Gaeltarra Éireann

Thanks for the quick edit of Gaeltarra Éireann. I know there is lots more to write but I can't find much online. It's mainly about Údarás na Gaeltachta but maybe having started it some others will chip in. Cheers ww2censor 21:51, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Historical reference to City of Derry/Londonderry

Hi, sorry to drop this message onto your page but I'm trying to invoke a discussion on the WP:IMOS page as to what to use for the historical references to the city of Derry/Londonderry. I am trying to obtain a non-POV neutral discussion over what terminology to use for this or whether the IMOS as it stands should indeed cover this. Since you have been involved in discussions over Derry or County Londonderry and the likes in the past I thought you may like to get involved in the discussion. See the appropriate talk to get involved. Thank you for your time. Ben W Bell talk 16:17, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Counties of Ireland

Made some changes to Counties of Ireland to update it to 29 for the RoI. However some of the text talks of 34 administrative counties - I think that figure is arrived at by taking the 5 city councils into account aswell. Could do with improvement, I think. Also need to find a map reflecting the 29 counties rather than awkward split I've done with the map key. Bastun 19:11, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

I have posted a note on the talk page as appears that their is a lot of non-acceptance of the true figure of 29 (at least in so far as the law is concerned). Djegan 21:51, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Northern Ireland Mediation

Seeing as the Northern Ireland page is pretty stable (see some of the involved user's explanation on the mediation page Misplaced Pages:Requests_for_mediation/Northern_Ireland, most notably the last comment), I would like to ask whether you think the problem has been already solved, and should the mediation case be closed. Thanks. ¿¡Exir Kamalabadi?! 04:52, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

New Cork vote

There is a new move request and survey regarding Cork. This time it is proposed to move Cork to Cork (city) in order to move Cork (disambiguation) to Cork. You are being informed since you voted in the last Cork survey. See Talk:Cork. --Serge 07:38, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Goodbye, Djegan. See more on my user page. - Emir214 10:52, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Founding document

That was myself editing anonymously. No subterfuge intended just wasn't bothered to log in for just a couple of minor edits. I was reverting what I took to be anonymous, ill-considered nit-picking. The original wording in this series of articles was more about establishing the topic as the politics of the Republic of Ireland rather than defining constitution (which would be pretty redundant). Though I suspect that is probably the actual reason why it was changed. Some seem to be on a mission to delete the term Republic of Ireland where-ever they see it. It's fair enough to have that preference but a user should have something more substantial to contribute to the 'pedia than simply going about making tiny edits here and there to conform things to their own stylistic or ideological preferences, and second-guessing every one of the tiny subjective choices that real contributors (like you and me) allow themselves when writing actual new material. I'm probably being overly proprietorial about these articles. Sorry if this seems grouchy, been a long day, etc.

Hmmm. I don't seem to be able to sign using tildas anymore. Maybe I've been away from here too long. --Iota

Certainly I see the benifit of linking to the Republic of Ireland. My way of looking at the issue was another anon on an errant to add information for the sake of editing, with little substance. I did not realise it was you, with a larger plan. I have only reverted one of you edits anyway so if you want to continue, by all means. Agreed that some of the anon edits can be petty, just see recent edits to Irish Government. Djegan 22:27, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Welcome back by the way. Not much going on here recently apart from the ongoing vote to move Cork and the weekly Derry/Londonderry hickups. Djegan 22:30, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Cool. Glad we're agreed. My fault for editing anonymously really. I tend to be pretty predjudiced about anonymous edits myself, as you can see. Iota 14:35, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

NI county pop estimates

Thanks for your comment: the question of course is whose estimates, and where can we find a citation. I spent a good while nosing around the net looking for them, but no joy. It appears that the Fermanagh figure is the population for the local government district rounded off and the Tyrone figure is the total for four districts. But how the others were arrived at (particularly Armagh and Down, parts of which are subsumed in Belfast) is anyone's guess. Which is the problem. The other problem is that in as far as they continue to have a statutory existence, there are six counties and two county boroughs: if there were figures compiled they would refer to these. Thanks for anti-vandalism patrol

Thanks for undoing the vandalism to the Education in the Republic of Ireland article - some anonymous person using comcast is responsible for the nonsense. Autarch 20:09, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Coinage images

You have made some great scans of coins. I have tagged a couple with {{Money}}; they probably all need this tag, and for you to add a fair use rationale. --11:18, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Because I made the images, then I have assumed that their is no need for fair use. However I will review the implications that they may be so. Djegan 22:28, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Cork

Dj - I just reported it on WP:AN/I, too. There's not a thing I can do to revert it (not an admin) but am annoyed and frustrated by it, especially as it's on the heels of two failed votes to move/rename - Alison 00:24, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

When I noted that change this morning I thought I was seeing things - Thanks for facilitating the clean-up. Looks however like the debate is going to be opened up again. Guliolopez 15:46, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Well, what's going on here: Talk:Cork#The_disambig_question is pretty surreal and disturbing. --Kathryn NicDhàna 04:06, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Cork talk

Please do not turn the talk page into a perpetual vote. Be sensable. Djegan 01:42, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm trying to preserve a working list of facts, not the strawpoll or any kind of vote. Why are you reverting this? --Serge 01:48, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
Stop messing with the talk page, or I will report you for WP:VANDAL or WP:3RR. Djegan 01:49, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
You need to take reponsibility for your actions and not fooling around. Talk pages are not a joke, stop pretending you can solve factual issues with polls. Djegan 01:51, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
For the record, you are not answering my questions. I have explained why I moved the section that I did. The reason you gave originally was it was turning the page "into a perpetual vote". Since the section in question had nothing to do with voting, I reasonably thought you simply made a mistake. To be clear, I closed the only poll open (a separate section). Then I moved the section again, explaining why. There is talk of archiving the entire page, and I just want to preserve a list of facts, compiled today, from being archived. You have not explained why are opposed to this, and simply are reverting me. Further, you continue to insist that I am pretending I "can solve factual issues with polls", which I've never claimed, and has nothing to do with this. Once again, why are you opposed to preserving the one section - that is a list of compiled facts and has nothing to do with polling - from being archived? --Serge 02:19, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
As I said on the talk page, if you want a section left unarchived, and left on the main talk page then explain your rationale their. My talk page is not a forum for perpetual votes. Thanks. Djegan 10:25, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Description of WIT

I note that you revised the first line of WIT's page to read

Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) is a higher education level institution situated in Waterford, Ireland. The institute opened in 1970 as a regional technical college and adopted its present name in 1998.

from Waterford Institute of Technology ('WIT) is a state funded university-level educational institution situated in Waterford, Ireland. +

I feel that the original version more precisly defines the institute- particularly for an international audience. It is also how the institute defines themselves on their website. How would you feel about changing it back.

Best regards,

Invara 15:39, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

By all means change the first sentence if you think its required, but I would advise leaving the second. Djegan 15:51, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Will do,

Thanks,

Hi Djegan. I have been away from home from about three and have just seen your note regarding the above. I've now corrected this and thanks for drawing it to my attnetion. Best wishes. - Dave Smith 15:14, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Just letting you know: it's a good idea to substitute test templates like so: {{subst:test}} instead of just leaving it as {{test}} Gzkn 11:55, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Horace Plunkett

I've just expanded on him quite considerably, but find that it should be possibe to link directly or to find him simply under Horace Plunkett rather than Horace Curzon Plunkett. I do not know how to do a reverse move and guess you are expert on such proceedures. Can you help and set the page up accordingly ? Thanks a lot and GreetingsOsioni 23:12, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

If you want to change the title of an article (and thus the location) click on the "move" button at the top of the page when logged in and follow the instructions. As long as you have sufficent rights the page will move to the new title, otherwise you will have to submitt a move request, see WP:MOVE. Its often a good idea on the talk page to invite comments before moving yourself (maybe leave a day or two to see if anyone would not be happy at the move and discuss furthur if need be as to the ideal title). See also WP:REDIRECTS.
Hope that this answers your question. Djegan 23:52, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

They could be made up for all we know. You can't enter them. That's a bit strange isn't it. Is this user telling the truth. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.40.206.205 (talk) 12:55, 9 December 2006 (UTC).

Can you prove they made it up. Raise the issue on the talk page talk:Sligo if you want to discuss the issue furthur. Djegan 12:58, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

  • DJ - I reverted to the blanked page and put up a {{copyvio}} notice.I subesequently scratch-wrote a stub to cover for the moment. Can you take a look, maybe, and cite the copyvio source? It'd be nice if we could salvage some of the old stuff - Alison 18:40, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Irish Coat of Arms

Hi I changed the colour on the arms to match the presidential standard as this version shows but also because the blue on the harp looked very bright --Barry 00:17, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Newmarket, County Cork

Thanks for renaming the Newmarket page. It was created before I got their and it was only when I was looking for templates that I saw the style was wrong. As I only registered tonight I couldn't rename it myself.
