Winnebago County is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of 2000, the population was 156,763. Its county seat is Oshkosh. Winnebago County is included in the Oshkosh, Wisconsin-Neenah, Wisconsin Metropolitan Statistical Area.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,499 km² (579 mi²). 1,136 km² (439 mi²) of it is land and 363 km² (140 mi²) of it (24.21%) is water.

Demographics
As of the census² of 2000, there were 156,763 people, 61,157 households, and 39,568 families residing in the county. The population density was 138/km² (357/mi²). There were 64,721 housing units at an average density of 57/km² (148/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 94.92% White, 1.12% Black or African American, 0.46% Native American, 1.84% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.72% from other races, and 0.92% from two or more races. 1.96% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 61,157 households out of which 31.00% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.00% were married couples living together, 8.30% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.30% were non-families. 27.60% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.90% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.99.
In the county, the population was spread out with 23.80% under the age of 18, 11.80% from 18 to 24, 30.40% from 25 to 44, 21.50% from 45 to 64, and 12.50% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 99.40 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.80 males.
