Not sure I understand why ghazals are a big thing in Calicut. Could this be explained a bit further on the page ? ( P.S. I left Calicut when I was 5 and live in America and was looking at this for curiosity ) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.140.233.16 (talkcontribs)

KOZHIKODE or Admiral Zheng article

Portuguese Empire

I have removed the category portuguese overseas empire .Bharatveer 13:55, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Why? Joaopais 16:15, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Trading posts do not make an empire.Bharatveer 10:08, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

They are very much part of empire, probably the most common way for colonisation to start. Piccadilly 13:37, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Lack of clarity

"the first European to sail directly from Portugal to India, landed in 1498." is not as clear as it should be. Was he the first European to sail directly to India, or only the first person / first Portuguese to sail directly to India from Portugal. Piccadilly 13:37, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Someone dealt with this at almost exactly the same time as I made my query. Piccadilly 13:40, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
