Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences (Template:Lang-fi, Template:Lang-sv) is one of Finland's largest business universities of applied sciences ("ammattikorkeakoulu" in Finnish). It is a private University of Applied Sciences fully supervised and accredited by the Finnish government through the Ministry of Education and Culture. The university has three campuses in Helsinki (Pasila, Haaga, and Malmi), and one in Porvoo and in Vierumäki.

Haaga-Helia offers education in business, information technology, sport and leisure management, hospitality, tourism and experience management, journalism and vocational teacher education. The university offers education in both Bachelor's and Master's level. It has about 11,000 students and about 650 employees from approximately 100 different nationalities.

Background

The Finnish system of universities of applied sciences was created in the 1990s. The first licence was granted to Haaga Instituutti University of Applied Sciences founded in 1991. The following year, Helia University of Business and Applied Sciences was also granted a licence to operate. During the depression of the 1990s, people wanted to believe in a better future and the opportunities high-quality education could provide.

The next significant change took place in 2007 when these two universities of applied sciences merged, and Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences was established.
