He was a top contender for Rocky Marciano's title in early 1950's. He was never given a chance at the Rock due to his mixed fighting results. He was considered top opponent for Rocky, but lost to Archie Moore 15/15 UD on May 2 1955. If he was not to take that fight, he would have gotten a shot at the Rock. On December 7th 1955 he lost a 10/10 (originally scheduled for 11 rounds) UD to Bob "The Grinder" Baker, if he was to win, a title bout against Rock was a sure bet, at least in his country, during June 1956. After retirement he worked as security and bouncer.
