Help with an article
Hi. I'm a Muay Thai guy, so I don't have too much background in TKD. Found this page on a supposed "father of Tae Kwan Do", Bok Man Kim, while wiki-surfing. This seems suspiciously like an advertisement for his dojos (as it is lifted verbatim from his dojo ad sites), but I don't know enough about TKD to know if he actually *is* a notable figure or not within the TKD world. Would someone with more expertise on the subject take a look at the page? Djma12 01:50, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Question
Could you explain these edits: , ? (I've reverted the last one). --Ligulem 18:00, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- The guy is a vandal and left behind a racist edit on the kimchi page. If you look at his contributions all his edits are vandalism.Melonbarmonster 18:14, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Hmm. Thanks for your answer. I've looked at the history of kimchi. From User:81.225.244.23 there is this edit. Truly vandalistic — but "racist"? Puzzled, --Ligulem 19:19, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- Please explain what part of...is a racial slur. I'm curious. In my opinion there is none. --Ligulem 23:23, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- That term is extremely offensive, insulting, inflammatory and inappropriate to me and most asians even if you don't think it is. I'd rather not have that term repeated on this page. Left a response on your talk page.Melonbarmonster 05:38, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- You just might consider that people from different cultures do have some problems to see this as a racial slur. I assume it would have been an easy thing to explain this to me, as you seem to have some "Korean" background, which I don't have (I'm from Europe). Your reaction in this incident seemed very inflammatory to me, that's why I was asking. Responding with arrogance to arrogance is not what we expect here. That's all. If you label a userpage of another user with "racist" — especially for an IP which might be shared by different people — then you should be prepared to explain yourself, as it was that edit which I was investigating (it doesn't matter if said user made a vandalising edit). Other admins might have blocked you for this alone. Even if you have a point, you should be careful about labeling other users as "racist". The term "racist" is very strong and quite well understood in all cultures and there is not much to interpret about it. However, I consider this matter closed as long as I don't see you labeling other user pages with "racist" again, which is a violation of WP:LIBEL, WP:NPA and WP:CIVIL. Simply put, do not respond with incivility to incivility. See WP:VAND for some hints on how to deal with vandalism in the future. --Ligulem 10:30, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- I've already owned up to the "asswipe" comment. But as for my describing racist vandalism as "racist", your warning is grossly misplaced and quite disturbing. The phrase in question is an obvious racist insult. Calling attention to its inappropriateness and calling it a "racist insult" is absolutely the right thing to do regardless of what culture your from and is not a violation of any wiki policy.Melonbarmonster 03:08, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Please try to keep cool
I'm not going to admonish either of you, but I've just popped accross from WP:PAIN to request that you both try to cool down your respective tones a little. It's the nature of disputes that things get heated, then they start getting incivil, then comes the ill beeling, etc, etc. Please simply consider hat can be said with incivility can also be said without it. If it's a harsh comment that may even have the possibility of offence, please consider that it may be incivil, and revise as appropriate Just hold for a few seconds before hitting the "Save Page" button :)
If these content issues continue to be a problem, please consider using dispute resolution. Thanks, and have a good day. Crimsone 03:59, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
TKD on karate page
Hi Melonbarmonster! I'll defer to your historical knowledge on taekkyon, but I'm not sure it's accurate to say "Although major techniques of taekwondo largely differ from Japanese Karate" - aren't the major techniques of taekwondo (rising block, knife-hand block, roundhouse kick etc) pretty identical to karate? I'll leave it up to your judgement, but I would say that the influence of Japanese karate on Taekwondo goes beyond just a template for the training system. My view would be that TKD is Japanese karate altered slightly to incorporate the traditional foot-competition from Taekkyon rather than being Taekkyon altered slightly to conform to the Japanese structured training. The relationship between karate and korea is already mentioned. Talking about how the occupation was marked by oppression and whatever else does NOT belong on a karate page. It belongs on the page Korea under Japanese rule RogueNinja 21:35, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

- Don't you think it would be appropriate to tell me which of my edits were in violation of WP:NPA? I haven't made any edits that comes close to a "personal attack" since your last edits on my page.Melonbarmonster 14:07, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
