He is the prince of the near-extinct Saiyan race, arch-rival to Son Goku, and a powerful warrior.
His name can be considered a pun on either vegetable or the condiment vegeta.
Appearance
Vegeta's build when he first appears in Dragon Ball Z is short and stocky, standing at about 5 feet 3 inches in comparison with Goku (5 feet 7 inches). His hair firmly stands upwards, and has a huge widow's peak. As he ascends to different Super Saiyan levels, his hair becomes much spikier than before. Vegeta wore many outfits during Dragon Ball Z and GT, but he is most commonly seen wearing traditional Saiyan armor, even as casual wear. He usually is seen wearing white gloves (except in GT, where he wears black finger-cut gloves), and white light-weight boots. His general clothing is dark blue for most of the Dragon Ball Z series.
Vegeta's hair color is usually said to be black even though its shade has changed over the course of the anime. This is accepted because later in the series, it is stated that pure Saiyans have black hair. Despite this, in his first appearance in Dragon Ball Z (Dragon Ball Z Episode 6) it is clearly a dark auburn. When he first comes to Earth a few episodes later, it appears black with brown highlights and stays that for the rest of the series (It changes to yellow with Super Saiyan transformations). Vegeta's hair (like all other pure-blooded Saiyans) never grows from birth. In the period between Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT, he decides to cut his hair and even grows a moustache, which he shaves off later.
Vegeta's regular skin color is a medium shade of tan, or more caramel in color. As a full-blooded Saiyan, Vegeta once had a monkey-like tail that was usually seen wrapped around his waist like a belt. After his first battle with Goku and his friends, it was cut off by Yajirobe.
Originally, Vegeta was drawn to appear short and stocky, completely opposite of Goku who was tall and slender. However, by the end of Dragon Ball Z he appears to have a slender build like Goku's rather than his earlier version, even though his hair length shortens. In the manga, he appears the same height as he was when he originally appeared.
Personality, the Saiyan Prince
As the Royal Prince of the demolished Planet Vegeta, Vegeta is seen to be arrogant, making his pride and power the most important things to him. He is typically portrayed as an arrogant prince, who clings relentlessly to his Saiyan heritage. Because of his evil intentions before he joined the Z Fighters, Vegeta is viewed as cold-hearted and sadistic, making him one of the most distinguishable characters in the series. Many early examples of his unintentional heroism were due to arrogance, his love of fighting, or his desire to prove himself better than Goku. In order to do so, Vegeta would fight enemies that were considered rivals to Goku as well as him. During the Freeza Saga, he fled a battle, but his strong sense of personal honor pulled him back to the fight. He is characteristically conceited, headstrong, stoical and cynical. Despite this, Vegeta is one of the characters whose personality has gone through the most drastic changes. By the end of Dragonball Z, Vegeta is proud to call Earth his home, and becomes fond of his family that he has created with his Human wife Bulma. His opinion of Goku always being one step ahead of him changes drastically over the series as well. At first his attitude toward Goku is nothing less of loathing, to a bitter rivalry, and then to a prideful respect. But even through the loathing and rivalry, he follows Goku's advice to relentlessly train and become stronger. Vegeta is a very tactical fighter, but often, his rage or arrogance blinds him during battles, especially when he is ahead of his opponent.
History
Pre Dragon Ball
Vegeta is seen in his youth in the Burdock movie special. Vegeta easily destroyed 5-6 Saibamen in this movie, showing his immense ability at a young age, being the son of the Saiyan king who was also named Vegeta. Even though Vegeta was royalty, he and his father were under the rule of the planetary overlord, Freeza. However, Freeza, out of fear of an impending uprising, kills King Vegeta and destroys Planet Vegeta, along with all Saiyans except for 4 (three additional Saiyans, Tullece, Paragus, and Broly, are added from the movies), Goku, Goku's older brother Raditz, Nappa and Vegeta himself. Freeza kept Vegeta, Raditz and Nappa as servants, usually to destroy planets and instill fear, much as he had used the Saiyan race. Meanwhile, unknown to Freeza, Goku had been sent to Earth to wipe out the humans and prepare it for sale. Because Vegeta is the son of King Vegeta, he prides himself as being "The Prince of all Saiyans".
Dragon Ball Z
Saiyan Saga to the Freeza saga
Vegeta is introduced to Dragon Ball Z aged twenty-nine as a reluctant and deceitful mercenary for Freeza. However, his true intentions for coming to Earth are to make a wish with the dragon balls for immortality, so that he can eventually defeat Freeza and rule the Galaxy. When Vegeta and Nappa arrive on Earth, they are confronted by the Z Fighters. Vegeta lets Nappa fight alone, Nappa has no trouble disposing of most of them. Goku finally arrived and saved what remained of the Z Fighters, he then fights Nappa and easily defeats him. Vegeta, out of anger, kills Nappa for losing to such a low class Saiyan. Vegeta then starts to fight Goku.
At first, Vegeta is easily able to overpower Goku. However, after a long battle with Vegeta being overpowered by Goku's Kaioken x4, hit by a Genki Dama, losing his tail to Yajirobe's katana, and crushed by Gohan in his Oozaru form, he barely escapes with his life. Even then, Goku has to tell Kuririn not to kill him. Vegeta then departs for Namek, and his space pod takes him to one of the planets controlled by Freeza. With his extreme arrogance, he cannot understand how a low-class Saiyan like Goku could have defeated him. It should be noted, however, that Goku was unable to move long before Vegeta, so some consider Vegeta the winner of the first "duel" between the two, having been defeated after his battle with Goku by Gohan and Kuririn, (then again considering Vegeta's pride, he feels he lost as a humanoid and was only able to overpower Goku as an Oozaru and was desperate to kill him, an advantage that Goku didn't have).
After recovering, Vegeta makes his way to Planet Namek, now planning to make a wish with the Namek Dragon Balls, and finds that Freeza has already been searching for the Dragon Balls. Vegeta kills Kiwi, fights Freeza's minions Zarbon and Dodoria, and confronts Gohan and Kuririn, who had also come for the Dragon Balls so that their dead friends could be revived. The Dragonballs are soon stolen by Freeza's elite mercenaries called the Ginyu Force who fought Vegeta, Kuririn, and Gohan after they had teamed with the purpose of fighting them. After some fighting, Goku showed up to help after healing from his injuries from his fight with Vegeta.
However, after Goku had beaten Reacoom and Butta, Vegeta stomped and broke Butta's neck, then finished off Reacoom with a Ki blast. Goku was upset by Vegeta's actions, saying that Reacoom and Butta deserved the mercy that Vegeta received. During the battle with Captain Ginyu, Vegeta shows the same attitude with Jheese(Jeice in the English anime) that he did with Gurd(Guldo in the English anime), Butta, and Reacoom; blowing him to bits.
After the Ginyu Force was dealt with, Goku was left badly injured, but Vegeta decided to help him recover, so he could help with Freeza. Freeza showed up abruptly to stop Gohan and Kuririn from wishing on the Dragon Balls, something Vegeta had no idea about. Vegeta and the rest fought, but Freeza was just playing with them. Freeza then decided to torture Vegeta to show him that he really wasn't the Super Saiyan as he had made himself believe.
He was completely dominating Vegeta, but Goku arrived just then to save him. With tears in his eyes he spent his last few moments of life telling Goku about what really happened to Planet Vegeta, what Freeza was responsible for, and even mocking Freeza, for he believed that Goku could beat the alien tyrant. Freeza finished him off with a single energy beam from his finger. Vegeta was later revived by the Dragon Balls, and transported to Earth. He then left to train in the hopes of surpassing Goku who had reached Super Saiyan while fighting Freeza.
Cell Saga
Main article: Cell SagaRight after the events with Freeza, Vegeta scours the galaxy looking for Goku. Unable to locate Goku, Vegeta returns to Earth disappointed. After an offer from Bulma for a place to stay, he lives with her and her family at Capsule Corp. At this point, he dons a new outfit, steadily rocking a pink collared shirt. But then trouble arrives, Vegeta realizes that Goku didn't kill Freeza; and Freeza, out of revenge, comes to Earth to destroy it. A mysterious Super Saiyan quickly disposes of Freeza. Goku then arrives on Earth and the young Super Saiyan tells them that he is from the future, and that two diabolical androids will arrive in three years and kill all the Z Fighters. After a quick display of two Super Saiyan powers, Vegeta vows to become one himself, kill the androids and defeat Goku. Three years pass, and Vegeta has a child named Trunks with Bulma. Vegeta during this time finally became what he had always dreamed about-- A Super Saiyan. The Androids arrive just as the mysterious Super Saiyan had predicted. After Goku failed to beat Android 19 because of a heart illness, Vegeta easily disposes of the android with his Super Saiyan power. Vegeta fights the other android (Android 20, or the creator, Dr. Gero) and then during this time, the young Super Saiyan that had appeared three years earlier arrives. After hearing Piccolo call the boy "Trunks", Vegeta realizes that the young Super Saiyan is his own son, from the future. It is also revealed that the androids that Vegeta has been fighting weren't the same ones that Trunks knew. Gero escaped to his hideout and released the androids Trunks was familiar with (17, and 18), who in turn kill Gero and release android 16. Vegeta is badly beaten by Android 18, so after being outclassed once again, Vegeta vows to transcend the Super Saiyan. He enters the Room of Spirit and Time at Kami's Lookout and trains with Trunks for a lapsed time of one year. During that time, the bio-warrior android named Cell had started his search for Androids 17 and 18, in a goal to reach "perfection". He was successful in absorbing Android 17.
Vegeta and Trunks emerge from the Room of Spirit and Time, to confront Semi-Perfect Cell. After revealing his Ascended Super Saiyan form, Vegeta completely dominates Cell, and even makes the evil android beg him to allow him to absorb Android 18, in order to become complete, and make the fight more interesting. Vegeta foolishly allows this and after Cell absorbs 18, Vegeta finds himself utterly outclassed yet again. Trunks comes to save his father and during this time, Trunks showed his true power, it even surpasses Vegeta's. It was then revealed later Trunks power had limitations for it would sacrifice speed for power, a concept that Vegeta had understood and Trunks had foolishly not. Vegeta enters the Room of Spirit and Time a second time. He is unable to advance his transformation after another lapsed time of one year.
During this time, Cell had decided to hold a tournament called the Cell games. Vegeta watched the Cell games from the sideline, seeing that Goku had made a mockery of him yet again, but Goku ends up sacrificing himself for the fate of Earth, Vegeta knows that now he is not able to defeat Goku now that he is dead, but during this time, Goku's son Gohan ascends Vegeta as well.
Vegeta does not fight Cell, but he does manage to fight the Cell Jr.s, and distract Cell long enough for the Super Saiyan 2 Gohan to push all of his energy into the blast and kill Cell. During this time, Trunks is killed; Vegeta goes berserk and attacks Cell out of rage. This is the first time that he shows affection for another person. Cell is defeated by Gohan, the ones killed by Cell are revived with the Dragon Balls, and the stubborn Vegeta acknowledges Trunks as a worthy warrior before Trunks returns to his own time.
Buu Saga
Main article: Buu SagaSeven years pass since the Cell Games, and the World Martial Arts Tournament is reinstated. Now that Goku is gone, Vegeta's main focus is to make his own son stronger than Goku's now two sons. Upon hearing from Gohan that Goku will be visiting Earth for strict 24 hour period to fight in the World Tournament. Vegeta sees this as the perfect opportunity to fight Goku in a "second round" and win.
During this tournament, the Z-Fighters are alerted to the presence of a grand evil and head off to vanquish it, enraging Vegeta who is again denied his rematch. During their confrontation with Babidi and his Majin warriors, Vegetas dark intentions are observed by Dabura, the strongest minion under Babidi's command who abandons his fight with Gohan to inform his master. Able to manipulate and enslave those with evil in their hearts, Babidi attempts to mystically convert Vegeta into a Majin warrior. Though he struggles, Vegeta is consumed and becomes Majin Vegeta. Desperate to fight Goku, they are returned, with Babidi's magic, to the tournament arena where Vegeta begins murdering spectators to force Goku into a no-holds barred battle. However, refusing to allow more innocents to fall, Goku requests Babidi allow their battle to take place in a remote, abandoned area.
There Vegeta is ordered to kill the Kaio by Babidi but Vegeta refuses to the astonishment of his 'master' as it is something that should be impossible. Clinging to his pride after being enslaved, Vegeta states that his only goal is to finally defeat Goku and nothing else will be allowed to interrupt or postpone their battle. During their conflict, they release enough energy to awaken Majin Buu which distracts Goku, requesting Vegeta to end their fight for now to deal with a greater threat. Vegeta accepts the truce only to knock Goku unconscious and setting off to deal with Majin Buu alone, wanting to repay Goku for sacrificing himself against Cell many years ago. Unfortunately Vegeta, despite possessing overwhelming power, cannot compete with Buu's near invulnerability and is bested, forcing him to commit suicide as a last resort, detonating his body and its reserves of power. He does this knowing that he will almost definitely be going to hell because he finally admits that he has loved ones he cares about more than himself.
Eventually, Vegeta is restored to life when the battle against Buu becomes increasing desperate. He fuses with Goku to become Vegetto, easily out-classing Buu until Vegetto is willingly absorbed to free his friends trapped within the mystical monster. Within the bowels of Buu, Vegetto is separated into Goku and Vegeta. They engage in battles with the internal defenses of Buu before escaping and being transported to the planet of the Kais. There, Vegeta and Goku battle against Buu until Vegeta composes a plan, struggling to hold off Buu long enough for Goku to form and use a Spirit Bomb. Buu is defeated and Vegeta finally settles his rivalry with Goku, becoming a true good guy in the process. Many years later, the heroes reunite at another Budokai tournament where Vegeta prepares once again to face Goku in battle. Goku leaves however to train a powerful new fighter, Uub as Vegeta and the Z-fighters watch on..
In the new kanzenban version of the final volume, Vegeta once again swears to himself that he will become stronger than Goku and fight him again..
Dragon Ball GT
Baby Saga
Main article: Baby SagaIn this saga, Baby, an artificially-created Tsufurujin (called "Tuffles" in the FUNimation dub, which may be a pun for "truffles". The word "Tsufuru" is a sort of spoonerism for "furutsu", in the vein of "Saiya", "Yasai", "Vegetable") came to Earth. These people were the race that used to live on the Saiyan's homeworld before being wiped out by the stronger race. He possessed people, including Gohan and Goten, to find Vegeta. Vegeta fought both Goten and Gohan, and beat them, but Baby entered Vegeta's body through multiple cuts and proceeded to control him completely. Baby Vegeta spread his control, taking over the minds of everyone on Earth using special seeds, save those with special protection (i.e. Mr. Buu's ability to control his body in any way he wishes protected him from the seeds). After creating a new Tsufurujin homeworld with the Black Star Dragon Balls, he began moving the people of Earth there bit-by-bit, proclaiming himself ruler. After a battle with Goku, who managed to reach Super Saiyan 4, Baby-Vegeta transformed to a Golden Oozaru (giant ape) form. The two battled and Goku eventually won by slicing off Vegeta's tail. Baby fled Vegeta's body and was blasted into the Sun by Goku.
Super 17 Saga
Main article: Super 17 SagaAfter Goku gets trapped in Hell and is forced to fight Freeza and Cell, Vegeta claims that he is the Earth's protector in the case of Goku's absence and is determined to win the battle against Super 17 (the fusion of Android 17 from the Cell Saga and a newer version of 17, a Machine Mutant created in Hell). He powers up to Super Saiyan 2 and even uses his Final Shine Attack, however this proves futile, as Super 17 simply absorbs the attack. But then Goku comes back and with some help from #18 he destroys him with his Super Dragon Fist attack.
Shadow Dragon Saga
Main article: Shadow Dragon SagaAs Goku continues to have trouble against the One Star Dragon, Yi Xing Long, Vegeta comes to his aid. Transforming into a Golden Oozaru, due to the Blutz Wave Generator (a device invented by Bulma), Vegeta proceeded to become a Super Saiyan 4 as he had full control over the Oozaru form. When even this form failed to stop the Shadow Dragon, Goku and Vegeta fused to become Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta. Gogeta overwhelmed Yi Xing Long in power almost bringing the heroes to victory, but the fusion time ran out before they could deliver the final blow. The two separate and are beaten until Goku uses a Genki Dama to take out the creature. Eventually, thanks to the people of the Earth and of the entire universe, Goku gains a big enough Genki Dama to destroy Yi Xing Long. Before leaving forever, Goku tells Vegeta that the lives of everyone are now in his hands, passing the role of protector of the Earth and anyone in need of help, to Vegeta.
Forms and transformations
As a member of the Saiyan race, Vegeta possesses a large number of transformations that enhance his abilities to varying degrees and drastically alter his physical appearance. These forms are listed in the order they were attained.
Normal
This is Vegeta's normal form (See Appearance). His appearance remains the same over the course of the entire series (his hair changes in GT), though his basic level of power greatly increases from training and injury as time progresses. This in turn boosts the power potential for all his transformations. When any transformation is cancelled due to unconsciousness, depletion of energy, death or self-reversion, Vegeta returns to this form.
Oozaru
This is Vegeta's least used transformation that occurs when he is exposed to rays of moon light, real or artificial. As long as he possesses his tail, Vegeta transforms into a were-ape, vastly increasing his size and strength while retaining his mental capacity, able to contain any primal rage brought on by the form. Stated by Vegeta, the Oozaru form is equal to ten times that of a Saiyan's normal power.
Super Saiyan
Vegeta first acheived this while training during the three year time period waiting for the arrival of the androids. However, Vegeta is first seen to have this ability in his battle with Android #19. This transformation results in Vegeta's physical limits being increased by a great amount, enhancing his speed, strength, reflexes and destructive potential. His hair turns blonde and is forced upward, with sharper edges, whilst his irises turn green, his body becoming surrounded in a glowing, golden aura. Additionally, his muscle mass also increases slightly.
Ascended Super Saiyan (Super Saiyan 2nd Grade)
By forcing his limits as a Super Saiyan to their absolute limit, Vegeta was able to transform to an advanced form of Super Saiyan. In appearance, Vegeta resembles his Super Saiyan form but his hair has gotten longer and more defined. His muscle mass has also greatly increased, but not to a point that inhibits his speed. Even though this is never specifically stated, Trunks says later that Vegeta was possibly able to transform into a Super Saiyan 3rd Grade, but chose not to because he knew of the negative side effects of lost speed. In this particular form, Vegeta dubbed himself "Super Vegeta" when he used it against Imperfect Cell.
Majin Vegeta
Vegeta by the Buu saga had become for the most part good, but hidden desires and evil still lurked in his soul. Seeing this and using it to his advantage, the dark wizard Babidi used his magic to possess Vegeta and fully reveal the full extent of his power that had been suppressed for years by his good nature. Vegeta had become the pure evil Majin Vegeta, whom Babidi had also attempted to control, but Vegeta's overwhelming pride made that difficult for him. Vegeta now had full access to every depth of his previously sublimated power, increasing his strength tremendously. It is later discovered that Vegeta could've resisted Babidi's attempt to possess him, but chose not to after seeing the incredible effect on power that Babidi's possession had on the Human Spopovitch. Vegeta was desperate for a rematch with Goku, and with Goku's limited time back on Earth, and the knowledge that he could not beat Goku with his current state of power, Vegeta decided that becoming a Majin was the only alternative.
Majin Vegeta's appearance differs in subtle ways from his regular Super Saiyan form. The only visible differences are that the outlines of his eyes become much darker to highlight the black colouring, protruding veins on various areas of his body and the "M" symbol in the center of his forehead (the mark of the Majin) indicating his enslavement to Babidi. Vegeta has full access to Super Saiyan 2 in this state, although it is vaguely suggested that he was capable of it before he became a Majin.
Super Saiyan 2
It is actually uncertain when Vegeta becomes Super Saiyan 2, but it is first revealed when Vegeta becomes Majin Vegeta. Vegeta earlier in the series vaguely suggests (but never specifically states) that he was capable of transforming prior to becoming Majin Vegeta, this however is unclear. This transformation again increased Vegeta's physical limits, enhancing his abilities beyond the capabilites of his Super Saiyan 1 form. His appearance is similar to that of the Super Saiyan state but his hair strands are clearly and individually defined while his body sparks with bolts of electricity.
Baby Vegeta
Like his Majin state, this is a form outside of normal Saiyan transformations, thrust upon Vegeta when he was cut and then infected with the Baby parasite, chosen as the strongest being on Earth. During his possession, his form gradually alters over time as his body is augmented to suit Baby's desires. Originally, Baby Vegeta appears to be in Super Saiyan 2 state permanently with his hair slowly turning gray and his eyes turning red, his eyebrows receding. His skin turned a grayish hue and he gained a black suit with golden shoulder pads.
Golden Oozaru
Vegeta first attained this form while not under control of his own body. The entity known as Baby had infested his body and taken control of Vegeta. Due to Baby-possessed Bulma's application of wave surges called "Blutz Waves" ("Bruits Waves" in the original version), Baby was transformed into a Golden Oozaru in order to compete with Super Saiyan 4 Goku. Baby Vegeta was returned to normal after his tail was severed.
Super Saiyan 4
Using artificial means to transform into a Golden Oozaru, Vegeta then forced himself to overcome the fierce primal rage of the form, and in doing so, ascended to Super Saiyan 4. The physique of the form differs drastically when compared to any of Vegeta's prior Super Saiyan forms. He appears in his normal state, but his body is coated in a crimson fur apart from his chest and hands. His iris in his eyes turn turquoise and he gains pupils; also his upper and lower eyelids turn red. Vegeta's tail also returns, crimson in color as well. Vegeta only used this form in Dragon Ball GT, utilizing it to help Goku against Yi Xing Long.
Fusions
Gogeta
Result of a successful Fusion Dance between Goku and Vegeta.
Vegetto
Vegetto is the result of Fusion between Goku and Vegeta using the Potara Earings.
Veku
Result of a failed Fusion Dance, Vegeta and Goku become a fat version of Gogeta.
Techniques and special abilities
Atomic Blast
- A devastating special attack used by Majin Vegeta in the Buu Saga. He extends his right arm towards his opponent. He then carefully targets which part of the enemy his wishes to fire the blast by extending out his index finger and middle, while carefully limiting the space of his thumb. Each of these fingers determines which area the blast will fire. An extremely powerful attack that would easily kill any unwary foe.
- When using this technique, Vegeta extends one arm and opens his palm, turning his hand up at a 90-degree angle (as if to signal "stop") and gathers his Ki. He then fires a sphere of Ki that is either yellow or white in color and creates an enormous explosion upon contact. Basic versions of this attack can be seen as early as the Freeza saga (e.g.: When he destroyed Reacoom), but he officially uses it first against Android 19 during the same battle that he first fought as a Super Saiyan. The attack's name and state is also reminiscent of the Big Bang Theory of Existence.
- The power of flight. It literally means "lighter than air skill" or "Air Dance". Most warriors in the Dragon Ball universe can perform this.
Energy Rings
- Vegeta creates five energy rings which he then uses to pin his opponent by binding their limbs and neck. He used this ability in his fight with Goku during the Buu Saga. This attack does not appear in the manga.
- Translates to "Ultimate Final Skill", Majin Vegeta uses this attack against Majin Buu. He engulfs himself in fiery energy and charges his Ki and then releases a burst of energy in the form of a sphere that continuously expands until Vegeta is out of energy. It was also called Suicide in the video game "Dragon Ball Z: Legendary Super Warriors" and called Final Explosion in the Budokai and Budokai Tenkaichi series'. This technique is Vegeta's most powerful one, since it uses up every ounce of Vegeta's energy. As a result his body becomes completely lifeless, turning stone-like and eventually crumbling to dust.
- Vegeta's energy beam attack. He performs it by extending his arms outwards from the sides of his body, then placing the base of his hands together directly forward and releasing a large and powerful gold Ki beam that consumes everything in its path. It requires some time to "power up". It was used against Cell during the Cell Saga, and once more against Goku during the Buu Saga, when Vegeta was under the Majin enchantment. It was "unofficially" used for the first time on Planet Namek where a blue colored version of the attack was used against Reacoom during their fight. In the original Japanese version Vegeta just fires the blast without saying anything, however in one dub Vegeta actually screams "Final Flash" during this early version of the technique.
Final Shine
- Seen only in Dragon Ball GT, this is a powerful and quickly charged beam of green energy that Vegeta launched at Super 17. Additionally, Vegeta uses this attack again against Yi Xing Long, but it has no effect. This time he shot it like a Final Flash. Vegeta also uses this attack in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 as a Super Saiyan 4, in a manner similar to the Final Flash. However, in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2, he shoots the Final Shine in the original way he did against Super 17.
- A beam similar to the Kamehameha. Vegeta charges the attack similarly to the Kamehameha, but Vegeta releases it with both hands faced open (while the Kamehameha requires the fingers to be curled). The result is a concentrated, fuchsia-colored energy beam from his hands and body. Vegeta uses this against Goku in their first fight during the Saiyan Saga. Translated as Garlic Gun or Galick Gun. In keeping with the Saiyan pun on vegetables, it is named after the vegetable "garlic" (note that "ga-rikku" is the Japanese way of saying garlic).
- The Kienzan is a razor sharp disk of energy that can slice through nearly any opponent. It was used by Vegeta only once to cut off Gohan's tail after a transformation into an Oozaru. It is similar to the "true" Kienzan used by Kuririn, which is a flat disc of Ki energy with a rotating edge around its perimeter. This attack is called Destructo Disc in the English version of the series.
