"My Best Friend's Mistake" is the third episode of the American sitcom Scrubs. It originally aired as Episode 3 of Season 1 on October 9, 2001.
Episode overview
Elliot takes issue with the endearments Dr. Kelso uses on her, but naively follows Dr. Cox's advice and confronts him over it. J.D. begins to miss Turk's company with how busy both of them are; however J.D. suspects a post-op reaction with a patient just out of surgery might have something to do with him. Elliot and J.D. seem to be getting close, but an interruption might make the difference between being friends and something more than that. J.D. thinks he now has 48 hours to kiss Elliot before entering the "Friends Zone". In the end he doesn't get the kiss, deciding to be a friend to Elliot at the time. Template:Endspoiler
The Erasure song "A Little Respect", that Dr. Wen turns out to be a great fan of, can be heard a number of times in this episode.

Trivia
- In the fantasy sequence in which JD and Elliot are a couple, the set where the fantasy takes place is the same as the set used in My Wife and Kids.
- According to J.D., this episode is solely responsible for him and Elliot never dating. He believes that if he had made it to Elliot at the end of the episode a couple of minutes earlier, they would have dated.
- The door to the "Friend Zone" in J.D.'s fanstasy sequence is labelled 'S2-43', which means that in season two, J.D. and Elliot would still be friends.
