There is now continuous urban development between the two places due to the growth of Galway City in recent years.
There is a mile long promenade overlooking the picturesque Galway Bay and a "Golden Mile" of bars, restaurants and hotels. The Promenade is affectionately known as the Prom and a favourite place for a stroll by the sea.
