Jacques D'Arc de Lys, born 1380 and died 1440, was a free laborer of Domremy at Chaffonds, near Montier, in Des (upper Marne). The "de Lys" title, meaning "of the Lily," was given as a status of nobility by letters patent of King Charles VII in December 1429, which was regisitered at the Chambers of Accounts on 20 January 1430. He married Isabelle de Vonthon, called Bomee, (born 1387, died 1468). Among the children they had, two of them were named Pierre d'Arc de Lys and Jeanne d'Arc de Lys (Joan of Arc).
