The Prelinger Archive is an online collection of approximately four-thousand public domain video clips - including some full length feature films - available for download in a number of formats. Neither a charge nor a membership is required for visitors to make full use of the contents of the site. While many of the clips available at this site are either very old corporate advertisements or films made by the government, the archive also contains a number of Charlie Chaplin shorts, Popeye cartoons, Three Stooges episodes, and other items of pop culture significance which are in the public domain because their copyright has expired.

The stated goal of the Prelinger Archives is to "collect, preserve, and facilitate access to films of historic significance that haven't been collected elsewhere."
