Could probably say a lot more about copyright and image restoration, but, well, those are very deep rabbitholes, and the latter really needs all of this: If you don't know how to find the images, how to figure out the copyright, and so on... - Thank you, Adam, for this article. Very useful. Can I add that I sometimes find obscure UK and Ireland images on Geograph (many already uploaded but some not) - the military history conenction tends to be war memorails in churches. Not sure what the current level of interaction with Misplaced Pages is there. Sometimes it is also worth contacting photographers to change their license (e.g. on Flickr) as well.
