AONBs
Is there any indication that the AONBs in NI are changing their name to "National Landscape", as in England and Wales? Sources differ. If you know anything, please join in the discussion at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject UK geography#AONBs are no more. Thanks. PamD 13:23, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
Generating Irish names for NI railway stations
Following a dispute at Belfast Grand Central station and their admission on my talk, @RooneyDonal21 has argued that Irish names should be generated for Northern Ireland railway stations after Irish was granted official status (excluding Ulster-Scots). I raise this as it could be interpreted as WP:OR as AFAIAA, Translink do not have Irish on their signs (yet)? Unless they have plans to do so? Plus WP:NCUKSTATIONS does mention focusing on the name on station signs if no sources are found or contradictory, but these generated translations appear on neither? (prove me wrong if incorrect) So should they stay? Mainly concerned over potential OR, but if there is consensus for the sake of Gaeilge, then that's fine. Go raibh maith agaibh DankJae 18:00, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
- No Irish names, or any other language names, should be "generated". Irish names must be A) sourced and B) proven to be in use. Just having a name used in an Irish language newspaper, for instance, does not indicate use. The would need to find use in some kind of official capacity. Until such time as Irish translations are officially published and sourced they should not be used. We're not here to publish something someone made up one day, which is exactly what a generated or translated name is, which is WP:OR. I'm sure the Irish names will come officially in due time, but until then we should not be making any up. People have been historically blocked for making up Irish names and inserting them into articles, it's disruptive editing. Canterbury Tail talk 18:39, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
- Ah WP:IMOS is what I need, I assume then, any additions of Irish names without a source by the editor should be reverted at least until a source is found? DankJae 18:55, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
- By any editor yes. Translations must be used and sourced, that's really all it is. Otherwise it's WP:OR and yes against WP:IMOS. Canterbury Tail talk 19:27, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

Celtic Knot Conference Returns September 2024 in Waterford
Hello Everyone! Dia Duit!
We are very happy to announce that the Celtic Knot Conference will be back for its 7th edition in the new year! We are delighted that it will be hosted in Waterford City, Ireland, in September 2024. The exact date will be announced as soon as possible.
The Celtic Knot is a conference dedicated to minoritized languages on the Wikimedia projects, including Irish. Getting back to its roots, in the Celtic languages and nations, the event gathers people from communities and languages that are underrepresented on the Wikimedia projects. It is a place where people working on growing and maintaining their communities can meet, learn from each other, and support each other on topics like community growth, technical tools, or collaboration with partners.
Celtic Knot 2024, will be an in-person event, held in Waterford, Ireland's oldest city which has an abundance of cultural heritage and history. We are currently exploring options to make conference resources (talks, panels, etc.) available to those who are unable to attend in person.
We are currently gathering input from the community to build a conference tailored to your needs: whether you attended a previous edition of the Celtic Knot or not, if you are involved in underrepresented languages on the Wikimedia Projects, please take a few minutes to fill in the community survey, and make sure to share the information with your local group. The survey is open until January 21st. Many thanks in advance!
As we are starting to build the concept and the program, we will regularly improve the existing event pages on Meta and post updates on the talk page of the event.
The core organizing team is composed of Amy O’Riordan (WCI), Sophie Fitzpatrick (WCI), Daria Cybulska (WMUK), Richard Nevell (WMUK), supported by Léa Lacroix (community engagement consultant). If you have ideas or suggestions, if you would like to get involved in the conference, feel free to contact any of us.
We’re looking forward to seeing you at the Celtic Knot!
