Reception
The game received a mixed critical reception, scoring 57/100 based on 10 reviews on review aggregation website Metacritic. As of July 9, 2024, the game had mixed reviews on Steam, with many players criticizing its monetization and calling it predatory.
The First Descendant became the highest-grossing game on Steam for the week of July 2-9, surpassing Elden Ring, which ranked first for the two previous weeks because of the launch of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion pack. The game peaked at over 264,000 concurrent players over the weekend, making it one of the biggest launches of 2024.
