Rugby union tournament
The 2025 Rugby Championship is set to be the fourteenth edition of the annual Southern Hemisphere rugby union competition , involving Argentina , Australia , New Zealand and South Africa . South Africa are the defending champions and kick off the tournament against Australia on 16 August. The three traditional unions, also known as the Tri-Nations (SANZAR ), announced their 2025 home fixtures in November and December 2024. A notable fixture is set to be played between Argentina and South Africa in the final round at Twickenham Stadium in London . It is the second time a Rugby Championship match has been played at Twickenham Stadium , after Argentina –Australia test in 2016 .
It is also the last tournament before the beginning of the Nations Championship , which turns the event from an annual tournament to a biennial tournament. The next edition of the Rugby Championship is expected to be in 2027 .
