Bice's Zodiac sign: Scorpio Bo Bice was born in Huntsville, Alabama at Huntsville Hospital Bo's legal name on his birth certificate: Harold Elwin Bice Bo has performed at a Benefit for Children's Orphanage and St. Peter's Hospital in Memphis. She has been doing this since Bo first began performing as a teenager. Background: Born in Huntsville, Bo has been writing his own songs since he was fourteen. In fact, Bo claims that he'd been singing as soon as he'd learned to talk. He has been performing since he was nine years old, and he has had formal training at a high school choir. He seems to have picked up music all on his own and taught himself to play piano and guitar. He won his first competition at Brown Elementary School in Syrma, Georgia, and then later on second place at the Georgia State Competition (singing "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood), at nine years old. He also won the state vocal competition in Atlanta at twelve years old.
Bo's real name is actually Harold Elwin Bice. He got hic nickname "Bo" from his grandmother, who thought he looked like Humphrey Bogart. His music is influenced by blues, rock, Christian music, and country.
Bo also holds a degree in massage therapy and music production at the University of North Alabama. American Idol:Bo came from Helena, Alabama. His mother initially dared him to audition for American Idol, and promised to drive him to whichever audition place if he took her up on her offer. Bo eventually auditioned in Orlando, where he passed and got the yellow ticket that earned him the opportunity to go to Hollywood for more auditions. (He also hid the yellow ticket behind his back as he was heading out of the audition room, to tease his mother a bit.)
Not much of Bo was seen throughout the auditions process, as the cameras were more concentrated on the likes of Carrie Underwood, Anthony Federov, Mario Vazquez and Bo's fellow rocker Constantine Maroulis. Bo was seen however, in a short five second clip during the second auditions, singing "The Letter". From that mere five-second short, which showcased his talented singing despite the short time in the spotlight, fans calling themselves the Bice Squad was first formed.
Bo eventually passed all the auditions and made it to the final Top 24 contestants in American Idol, and eventually, into the Top 12. He was however, fired from his job working in a guitar store when he passed his Orlando audition.
So far, all of the clothes Bo has worn to American Idol since making it to the Top 24 had been personally handsewn by his grandmother, Madge Schofield. Bo also carries around a cross given him by his mother, and a small shield he got from England as good luck charms. Bo is something of a "gentle" rocker: he prays before every performance, and articles and stories detailing his compassion and kindness towards others have made it to the news. Facts about Bo:
- Bo plays the piano, guitar, bass, sax, harmonica and is a talented songwriter. He also has a recording studio at home. He was the lead vocalist for a band named PURGE which, after one band member left, was renamed the Blue Suede Nickel. A few years later, they again renamed the band Sugarmoney.
- Bo's favorite artists include Matchbox Twenty and Sheryl Crow.
- Bo would love to someday own a guitar store or get into the music business.
- Bo likes to cook and is interested in photography.
- Bo is similar to his mother, both in features and musical talent. His mother Nancy sang with two of her cousins Evie Hawkins and Rhea Tilley in a musical group called the "Singing Jays" in the 1970s, and has also been a model and a commercial actress.
- While driving to Georgia from Alabama to visit his mother, Bo received a call from the New Hope Presbyterian Church he belonged to, informing him that a church member's month-old grandson had passed away. Bo immediately turned to drive back to Alabama to make it to the funeral. Arriving the night before the funeral was to take place, he managed to write a song, sing it during the services, and gave both the lyrics and a copy of the CD to the grieving parents.
