Since the end of the Second World War, in 1945, it has belonged to the modern state of [[Poland.
Due to the voting in this Misplaced Pages , "Danzig" refers to the city for period between 1308 and 1945: for example, the Free City of Danzig. In German, the city continues today to be known as "Danzig", just as in Polish the city was known as "Gdańsk" even prior to 1945.
Danzig (Danziger, Dantzig) is also the surname of a number of people, including:
