He was nominated for an Academy Award for his script, A History Of Violence which he is probably best known for.
Olson was the most recent writer on the postponed Halo film project, which was being produced by Peter Jackson
In 2006, Olson was personally invited by legendary author Harlan Ellison to collaborate with Ellison on an adaptation of the author's short story "The Discarded" for ABC's upcoming series, "Masters of Science Fiction." The episode stars Brian Dennehy and John Hurt, and was directed by Jonathan Frakes.
Olson recently optioned the Dennis Lehane short story "Until Gwen," and has adapted it to direct himself. The project is currently casting.
A discussion on Craig Mazin's screenwriting website "ArtfulWriter.com" recently detailed an encounter between Olson and a successful married screenwriting team, the Wibberleys. Olson had engaged in several belligerent attacks on Marianne Wibberley on the same site and other screenwriting sites, and when the Wibberleys encountered Olson at Beverly Hills agency UTA, Cormac Wibberley confronted Olson. Cormac called Olson on his bullying behavior, and Olson replied by stammering that his abrasive online behavior is merely an act, and apologized profusely before retreating from the scene as quickly as possible.
Olson denies the encounter, even though other writers who witnessed the encounter support Cormac's account.
A recent post by Olson himself in the linked thread admits to the witnesses' version of the encounter.
