Deloria Online is a 2-dimensional massively multiplayer online role-playing game (or MMORPG).
History
The game is designed and developed by Jeff O'Blenis {'Nexemis') and has been online, periodically, since the end of 2001. Deloria Online is created in Visual Basic and was started when Jeff O'Blenis was in school for software engineering. Deloria has quite a following through the many versions it has gone through.
The original version was taken down in 2004 and an unofficial version hosted by 'DarkAngel' and coded by 'GSD' went online in 2005. 'Darkangel' gave the game code and server data to a player by the name of "Slipknot998". 'DarkAngel' has since released the source making it available to anyone with Visual Basic 6. The code has many new features such as warp orbs. This version, due to unreliable servers, owners and many character resets saw player numbers decline to unsustainable levels, and was taken down in mid 2006.
The official version as owned by Nexemis is now online, and continues to be improved through development.
Community
There is some controversy surrounding the moderators of Deloria which are of course, unpaid volunteers, and hold a great deal of power.
Deloria Online is stupid! It has been 'said to' be updated since may, its now JULY! No updates / forum posts. Tell Nex or w.e he is to stop wasting money on the site since he doesnt even go on it himself
Description
It is described at www.mmorpg.com by a player as:
"... better graphics and game play than most of of its immediate rivals. Although simple it has real depth and its pretty addictive, the relatively small community is certainly one of the most helpful and friendliest out there. Not everyone's cup of tea ill grant you but if you like a freindly crowd and retro anime graphics then give it a try..."
The Deloria section at www.mmorpg.com was deleted in 2006.
Towns
There are currently two towns in Deloria, and one that is to be released later.
Collingwood: The main place of Deloria, it provides newer players with weapons, some magic, items, and most exclusively, the arena, where players can player-kill each other without having to worry about death penalties. All starting players start off here.
Darnoth: The only (at the time) other town. It is for higher-level players, as the monsters that roam around the area can be somewhat strong for low-levels. It provides better weaponry and armor, along with a better selection of scrolls, and does not have an arena, although it does serve as a save haven for the dangerous player-versus-player zones surrounding it.
Lakeport (not incorporated yet): Not much is known about it yet.
Expansion
On around December 2006, something was put on the updates page that kept many players encouraged. It was an expansion to the game called "Call of the Ancients". It is said to include new maps (which will also include a new town called Lakeport), new monsters, new items, and much more. It has not been released yet, and there is no ETA.
