Ego death is an experience sometimes undergone by psychonauts. It can be brought on by many years of meditation or the ingestion of psychedelics such as Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), Magic Mushrooms, Mescaline, Salvia divinorum or LSD; though some religious practices claim to do the same.
It is characterised by the perceived loss of boundaries between self and environment, a sense of loss of control, and the loss of the accustomed feeling of existing as a personal agent.
Simply the concept of "I" is lost. Instead there is an overwhelming feeling of joining a collective which is very unsettling to most.
