Jukdo is a small island adjacent to Ulleungdo, South Korea. It was formerly also known as Jukseodo (죽서도, 竹嶼島). It lies 4 km east of Ulleungdo, and is the largest island in the group apart from Ulleungdo itself. In 2004, one family of three members were living on the island.
Administratively, Jukdo belongs to Jeodong-ri, Ulleung township, Ulleung County, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
One of the Chinese characters used to write the name Jukdo (竹嶼島) is the same as those of Takeshima (竹島), the Japanese name for a different island, the Liancourt Rocks. Both mean "bamboo island."
Korean ancient historical maps of Ulluengdo in 1711, Usando(于山島) was drawn as today's Jukdo with Hanjing bamboo fields(海長竹田) and east 5 ri (2.0km)away from Ulleungdo.
Another Korean ancient hitorical maps of Ulleeungdo, recorded by Korean Ulleungdo inspetor on 1699 and 1702, Big-Usando(大于島)is drawm as today's Jukdo and Small-Usando小于島 as today's Gwaneumdo.
Both of maps draws Japaese fisherman's boat stoage village(倭舡艙) and Stanging stone curved sign board(刻石立標),which Ulluengdo inspector on 1711 built nearby Usando(于山島) and Japaese fisherman's boat stoage village(倭舡艙.)
