Impaled Northern Moonforest is an Acoustic Black Metal band formed by Anal Cunt veterans Seth Putnam and Josh Martin in 1997.

History of the Band

According to Putnam's website, the band was was started "out of boredom around 3 am one morning in early 1997". The two decided to start a joke black metal band, but because of the proximity of sleeping people an acoustic (rather than electric) guitar was used and percussion was provided by Putnam furiously slapping his knees and mattress. They did not intend to take the band any further.

Some time later, the organiser of a "three day hardcore festival" at Rhode Island informed Putnam that a number of bands had pulled out of the event and asked him if he knew of any which could fill in. After initially refusing, he and Martin decided to reform as Impaled Northern Moonforest for the festival. Putnam's brother acted as keyboard player (his only appearance for the band) and driver.

The band played further shows in 1997, selling a demo at one of them. This was later released as part of Impaled Northern Moonforest's self-titled 7" vinyl release, which later became a cult classic; however, the song titles on the 7" are different from those on the demo, as Putnam lost his copy of the demo. Following a few other shows, the band split up.

Discography

Impaled Northern Moonforest's sole release - the self titled 7" - was released by the now defunct Menace to Sobriety Records. See below for a list of song titles. Although the band is still technically defunct, there are plans for a new 7" entitled Return of the Necrowizard. So far a single song, with that title, has been recorded.

Song titles

The creative process involved in thinking up song titles (sometimes considered by fans to be even funnier than those of Anal Cunt) involved "thinking of dumb sounding names thought would fit into that whole black metal thing". Here are a list of titles that appeared on the 7" release:

Side 1:

  1. "Grim And Frostbitten Moongoats Of The North"
  2. "Forlorned Invocations Of Blasphemous Congregations Of Lusting Goat Sodomizing Sathanis"
  3. "Gazing At The Blasphemous Moon While Perched Atop A Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Forsaken Crest Of The Northern Mountain"
  4. "Bloodlustfully Praising Satan's Unholy Almightiness In The Woods At Midnight"
  5. "Nocturnal Cauldrons Aflame Amidst The Northern Hellwitch's Perpetual Blasphemy"
  6. "Transfixing The Forbidden Blasphemous Incantation Of The Conjuring Wintergoat"

Side 2:

  1. "Masturbating On The Unholy Inverted Tracks Of The Grim & Frostbitten Necrobobsledders"
  2. "Awaiting The Blasphemous Abomination Of The Necroyeti While Sailing On The Northernmost Fjord Of Xzfgiiizmtsath"
  3. "Lustfully Worshipping The Inverted Moongoat While Skiing Down The Inverted Necromountain Of Necrodeathmortum"
  4. "Awaiting The Frozen Blasphemy Of The Necroyeti's Lusting Necrobation Upon The Altar Of Voxrfszzzisnzf"
  5. "Summoning The Unholy Frozen Winterdemons To The Grimmest And Most Frostbitten Inverted Forest Of Abazagorath"
  6. "Entranced By The Northern Impaled Necrowizard's Blasphemous Incantation Amidst The Agonizing Abomination Of The Lusting Necrocorpse"
  7. "Grim And Frostbitten Gay Bar"

Acoustic Black Metal

In April 2003, the first Impaled Northern Moonforest fansite was launched. In October of that year, a phpBB web forum was added to the site, and a community of fans soon formed to celebrate the hitherto mysterious and elusive band. Plans were made to release a tribute album and, with the exception of some pre-existing acoustic noise bands present on the forum, numerous one-man bands were spawned to contribute to this. The tribute album remains unreleased, awaiting the recording by Anal Cunt of a cover of "Return of the Necrowizard", but the Acoustic Black Metal scene is stronger than ever. One of the true bastions of the underground, the scene comprises mostly teenage males (alongside the occasional twenty-something) with acoustic guitars and Internet-connected computers, producing EPs dedicated to the Necrowizard, Norway, grimness, frostbite, Satan, Hitler, snow, coldness and other such topics. The forum users have even created their own record label, Grim Records, to release the tribute album and their own music.
